A-Rod and the Mystery Woman
I was watching ESPN this morning and part of the discussion centered around Yankee baseball player Alex Rodriguez.
Alex Rodriguez has been caught in photos with a woman that is being described as a mystery woman. He was seen going into a strip club with her when his team was playing in an away game in Toronto. Alex Rodriguez has a wife and a 2 1/2 year-old daughter.
The conversation on ESPN was centered around how the media was reporting this story. One of the guys on the show said that it was always understood that they would not print stories of catching someone cheating. Here is the link to the article: Link
They are not mentioning the word cheat. They are just pointing out that he is spending time with this woman while in Toronto and going to a strip club with her and she is visiting his hotel room.
Should the media print stories and photos if they believe a professional athlete is cheating?

no, its their buisness.
Sounds like cheating to me but then, we don’t know who this woman is.
And yes…it should be printed. Then maybe these guys will realize they can’t get away with stuff like this.
i think the media should spend more time concentrating on more important issues going on in the world.
I think they should be reporting sports scores/stories, not personal stories on the athletes, unless the athletes consent. It is ESPN, not E!
heck no!!
It seems to me He doesent care if he gets caught or not….otherwise he wouldent be out in public with her.Let em take all the pics they want.
celebs should know there’s no such thing as privacy – and who’s to decide whether or not it is him cheating — like it says, it’s a mystery woman, that leads the audience to decide
Why not? They do it for every other type of celebrity. Personally, I don’t think any of it is our business, but I don’t tihnk that athletes should be exepmt from any tabloid messes. Also, A-rod’s a jerk-off and a one hit wonder. I’m glad I finally have a solid reason to hate him.
And yes, I’m a Yankees fan.
yes that is what they get for being famous an cheating. u know ur pics will be posted.
Every aspect of our media has crossed over to “tabloid” coverage (hence, Rosie being on the View). There is very little credible news coverage anymore, since the media will mainly pursue stories that will bring in the money or advance their political agendas.
RYC: At least i admit to being a shampoo stealer.
I don’t think that the media can resist printing these stories. Sad, but true.
RYN: I used to think that my feet were small (I wear a 7 1/2) until I had a room mate in college who wore a size 5. My feet looked huge in comparison! So – it is all relative!
they’re in the public eye, so unfortunately they (athletes) need to expect it. however, i’m not completely convinced he was cheating. for all we know, it very well could be an old friend. the media never said/showed pictures (at least that i have seen) of them kissing or being sexual in any way.
yes
they are in the public eye and paid the millions for what they do in public. If they ask for privacy that can be respected but he also had to know he was going to get that kind of attention…
Privacy is reserved only for those who live in obscurity.
I’ve always thought that celebs should hire private eyes to follow journalists around and then publish newslets of what they’re up to. I’m pretty sure the paparazzi would back off if they got a taste of their own medicine.
Leonidas and Soultender said it better than I could.
no. the media is so out of control these days. they should focus more on helping our country in some way.
That would sure be a crappy way fo find out if you’re the spouse
I don’t really think so. However, maybe if they know they should call his wife and make sure she knows about it too. Not because it’s their job, but because it’s the right thing to do I guess. I’d want to know if my husband was cheating on me. And if I knew that someone else’s husband or wife was cheating on them, you bet your bottom dollar I’d tell them. I wouldn’t spread it around to other people, though. They don’t need to know.
sure, why not. it really isnt anyones business but they are in the public eye and the media will jump on anything to sell a story so…..
It is all soap opera and baseball players are just high priced entertainers. They would be making very little money at all, if people only cared about the important things in life. So they make millions, because people love to entertain themselves with meaningless deversions. The good side to this is that Alex Rodriguez makes millions for playing a boys game. The bad side is that everyone will be looking at his insignificant life, even when he would rather they did not. “Life is hard, wear a cup”
A-Rod is a public figure. He makes millions of dollars and works and lives in America’s biggest media market. He is fair game. I feel for his family, though, and I hope they can keep their marriage together.
can you really tell the media they’re not allowed to publish a story? it really bothers me though. what kind of a statement is it on our society that so much media coverage focuses on stars and what we think we know about their personal lives?
Who cares! It’s just a shame that poor little girl has to go through the bs of having her father either cheating or being portrayed as cheating, BUT you know what? We’re to preoccupied to pay attention to our own kids, why? Because we’re too busy looking at what celebs are doing.
this isn’t news
Athletes generally are known to have a little more privacy than other celebrities, but still, he should know that He’s going to get seen, and photographed.
Poor wife to find out on the front cover of the NY Post that her husband has a ‘special friend’.
On one hand it is someone’s personal life and therefore not necessarily everyone’s business, on the other hand when you put yourself in the spotlight, the spotlight tends to follow you even when you creep into the shadows. I think its to be expected.
It’s not like it’s wrong of the media to print such stories, but on the other hand, it’s none of their business and none of ours.
yes, humiliate the crap out of that sob.
I don’t see why the media needs to get involved with people’s personal lives, even if they are celebrities. They’re still people.
assumptions are the mother of all fuck ups
and they can ruin lives
besides the fact that who the fuck cares what these people do outside of the sports arena?
I don’t believe that they should be exempt from the scrutiny, but I also don’t think that we should have the “tabloid” stuff on all the news like it is. The other day I saw where a reputable news station spent 20 minutes on Linday Lohan’s latest accident. We have a war happening in several countries across the globe, a new holocost brewing in Darfur, and I could go on forever and they focus on that. I guess it’s a type of distraction from all the chaos, but it doesn’t make it good! I do feel for his family finding out in that way, but at the same time I would want to know if my hubby was spending so much time with another woman in such suspicious ways because lets admit it…if something isn’t happening yet, it’s only a matter of time!!!! Besides, there aren’t many women who would go into a strip club unless they are accompanying a guy that they want to keep interested…unless it was a male strip club which unleashes a whole different set of possible problems for Mrs. A Rod!
It’s too bad they can’t stick to real news. There are a hundred international stories worth more attention than Alex’s trip to the strip club. But people prefer sleaze.
While I generally don’t think the media really needs to report what’s going on in a celebrity’s personal life, this is one instance where I won’t object. He’s a public figure and he needs to realize that if he’s having an affair the media’s probably going to find out about it. Maybe if he weren’t skanking around with some other woman in public he wouldn’t have to worry about the negative publicity. It’s kind of hard to feel sorry for the man that his privacy was violated when he’s doing something as slimy as this.
no. just like celebrity pregnancies and abuse problems, those are really just personal issues.
their coverage may lead many people to jump to conclusions without all the facts; that’s bad journalism!
most celebs, jocks and otherwise, are not really known for their brains, so it has always bothered me how much attention the media gives them. sadly they are considered role models by kids and should at least have the sense to know that. That pic (and article) will make a lovely page in the family scrapbook for future generations I’m sure.
Whether they should or not is not the question. They do it because it sells. Don’t sin and you don’t have any reason to be on the front page for cheating. Period. You reap what you sew.
he signed up for that type of scruntiny when he signed that contract.
Why not? Maybe if there was more accountablilty in the world, less people would go wrong.
Isn’t that what they’re for? ..hm
I don’t think it’s right.. printint it or reading it, really..
what’s the point? It’s not going to kill me if I don’t know that stuff!
ugh..pointless..
Should the media do such a thing? No.
Can they and will they? All the time.
Why not?
Stories like this sell.
Frankly, I could care less.
So, Alex Rodriguez is…..who?
maybe it’s just his cousin or sister….yaa…
Nah, if they are a celebrity and decide to cheat in public, then it’s their own fault.
Obviously the media is wasting their time with celebrity bullshit and should start reporting on real issues, but that wasn’t the question.
Unfortunately, the media can apparently do whatever they want without much regard of their job details…
I think it’s just too harsh of a topic to put on the media when his wife most probably doesn’t know. Poor woman, can you imagine finding out at all, much less at the same time as the rest of the world?
At least there will be plenty of solid evidence to fuck him in divorce court!
absolutely if it will sell papers!
Teehee. Stray ROD thats funny.
Rod.
Twahahahahaha.
I don’t know about the media’s ethics (do they even have any?) but I think it serves him right.
Ethically, maybe they should refrain, if they choose.
Morally, they should probably refrain.
Democratically, they can do whatever they darn well please!
I hate those mag’s. No, they shouldn’t tell. Nor should they tell about anyone. It’s their own personal life and that discussion should be between the wife and the guy. Period.
Sure.
It’s not like there’s anything else that interests the public, anyway.
It depends if the media is there to print news or just to print things that are convenient to them. If it was a conservative lawmaker or maybe even for a liberal one, it would be flying off the presses.
If the media source is strictly sports related…then no…but if they are free to print what they want…they are free to do so… although I prefer my privacy
should? journalists? ethics? I mean….how to enforce this odd idea?
If someone is famous and doing something stupid, the media will (and should) print it. It’s the price of being famous. Everyone knows the media is always looking at a juicy story when a famous person steps into a public place.
I feel bad for his wife though, having to find out like this. It’s sad the guy can’t keep it in his pants out of respect for his family .
Should or should not…it’s gonna happen. I feel sorry for his family whether he’s in the wrong or not.
Personally, I feel bad for his family and hope that he is wearing a condom. For the wifes sake and the women he screws around with. Anymore, you never know who has what.
Like you said, they never said he was cheating.
No. And just because they didn’t say the word cheat doesn’t mean that’s not what it’s about. They’re being humongous fuckwads.
that chic is from where im from… she went to h.s. with friends of mine… too funny.
