  • Christian Intolerance

A teacher used the name of Jesus in vain in a classroom in Florida.  She now faces up to six months in prison.  She named a stuff animal “Jesus” in an obvious attempt to turn the students away from God.

She is Muslim and does not care about Christianity.  The maximum prison sentence for this six months in prison or 40 lashes.

In jail ... British primary school teacher Gillian Gibbons.

Do you ever get the feeling that the religious nuts are taking over this country?

Would you prefer a real Christmas tree or a fake one?

  • Interview

Would you rather show up to a job interview as a black person or as a Hispanic person?

  • First Impression

I received this message in my message box from Spacey1.

“I wanted you to ask people what the first thing they notice about a person’s appearance is…I’m going to do a toothbrush experiment and I want to see how many people say teeth. If you do that, though, I want you to wait until tomorrow so they don’t all say ‘hearing aid.’”

Besides a hearing aid, what is the first thing you notice about a person’s appearance?

  • Hearing Test

I went to the doctor today and took more hearing test.  It was mentioned to me that I could actually improve my hearing significantly if I had surgery.  Essentially it would involve putting a hearing device in my one ear that would cause it to bounce off the bone and give me hearing through the other ear.

It was difficult for me to listen after they mentioned that it would require them to drill a “small” hole in my skull.  Apparently it is the type of surgery where you go home the same day.  (Small hole in the skull is a term we use when referring to someone else’s skull).

The other main problem with the surgery is that every option includes a visible hearing aid on the outside of my ear.  In other words, people would be able to tell that I had a hearing aid.  I am not a candidate for the regular type of hearing aids that are often small.

So here is my problem.  I only have hearing loss in one ear.  But I am concerned that people would look at me differently and it would hinder my ability to get the best jobs if I had a visible hearing aid.  People can deny it as a factor but my best guess is that I am better off with less hearing than I am with better hearing and a visible hearing aid when it comes to getting a job.

The lady told me that I would be able to hear normally with the hearing aid.

Would you rather have hearing loss in one ear or a visible hearing aid?

  • Capital Punishment and Baby Grace

    Add me to Facebook:  Link

I wrote in my photoblog about a young girl who was killed by her parents.

She is the same girl that police released a sketch of because they were trying to figure out her identity.

(I am still not sure why they release sketches when the people never look like the sketches).

The girl was beaten and tortured to death by her mother and her stepfather.  She was beaten with leather belts.  She had her head “held underwater in a bathtub.”  She was thrown across the room.  She suffered from three skull fractures.  She was 2-years-old.  Here is the link:  Link

When I posted this in my photoblog, there was some discussion about the death penalty.

    “Death penalty”  BillBryant

    “Capital punishment indeed.”  Tallon5

“no these people don’t deserve the capital punishment, they need something worse”  Arieltaval

“Yes, that was absolutely horrible. The punishment? Life in jail where inmates be mean to them. The chair is an easy way out.”  HaveChanged

I hear people say that they don’t believe in the death penalty.  Then I hear some of those people say that it is far worse to spend a life in prison.  However, when people are about to receive the death penalty they almost always fight against it legally.  In fact, we take special notice when someone wants to be executed.

I think the death penalty would be one of the harshest penalties because of the emotional toll it would take on a person leading up to it.

Would you rather have life in prison or receive the death penalty?

  • Stranger to Washington

I would like to thank everyone who participated in my birthday and gave me birthday wishes.

    Here we go:

I was reading an article about Barack Obama and how he is lifting up his outsider status from Washington.  The line that stood out in my mind was the first line of the article:  “The nation needs a president who is more a stranger than an insider when it comes to the capital’s way of doing business, Barack Obama said Monday, portraying his relatively modest experience in Washington as an asset.”  Here is the link:  Link

The reason this article struck me was because I have been reading the back and forth issue of the experience factor.  Hillary Clinton claims experience because she was First Lady.  Barack Obama pointed out the other day that having Bill talk to her didn’t make her experienced at all.

Barack is making the argument that he has business experience and that Hillary doesn’t really have very much experience at all.  He is making the claim that he should be elected because of his outsider status.

Would you prefer that we elect a person that is more of an insider or a stranger to Washington?

  • Appearance

I turned 36 today.  That is 18/25 of the way toward 50.

If you could magically change one thing about your appearance, what would you change?

  • Date of Death

I turned 36 today.  That is 9/10 of the way toward 40.

I was looking at one of these death time clocks today.  The kind where you calculate your death day based on a few facts about you.   Here is the link:  Link  I linked one of these before.

It got me thinking about whether I wanted to know my date of death.  It sounds kind of freaky to know but it would help you plan more.  I think it would be hard to accept for a few days because of the finality of it.

Would you want to know the exact day you are going to die?

  • Religion and Politics

I was reading an interesting article by Peggy Noonan.

In the article, she was expressing her concern that politicians have been placed in a position where they not only have to say what their faith is but even explain it.  Her concern is that we are expecting our politicians to be Bible study teachers.  Here is the link:  Link  In reading her article, I would guess that she would prefer to not even hear what religion a candidate holds to.

Do you want to know what religion a presidential candidate is before you vote for him/her?
