Boycotting Timestampers
Enough is enough. It is time to put a stop to all of these sites that are timestamping.
Timestamping is when a site updates the time on their post so that they get thrown to the top of everyone’s subscription list. It is done just to get more comments and it is getting annoying.
So I am leading a boycott against the sites that are engaging in this activity. I want all of us to bind together and for now on, we will all refuse to comment on the sites of those who timestamp. (As the leader of this boycott, I may have to timestamp in order to bring attention to this cause).
If we stand together, we can stop this once and for all.
Recommend this post so we can get the word out.
Are you with me?

First!
i’m pretty sure I’ve seen you do this … i guess i’m boycotting you?
Yes! And if you timestamp again, I’ll comment again.
I just delete them if it becomes a chronic habit.
But…don’t you do that, too?
Dan I think you time stamped one this morning
I only have three subs who make a habit of it, so I have no need to join a campaign
If I’m not mistaken, I’ve seen you do it before…
I had no clue “timestamping” existed.
Timestamping has its place, and is a necessity in some cases.
no way cause you do it too! you know you like it
I’m with you!
It’s annoying when posts I’ve already commented go back to the top of my subs list.
Don’t timestamp every single post you write please.
SO THAT’S WHY YOUR BREASTCANCER POSTS KEPT GETTING TO THE TOP OF MY PAGE!
I thought I was going crazy… S*…
I only have like 2 people that timestamp…it’s not that big of a deal.
I know you’re bring sarcastic, right?
Meh.
yea!
I think you have to qualify this. First of all, no need for a campaign. You have done this, yourself. Yes, there are chronic people who send the same post countless times. It doesn’t bother me that much. Sometimes there are reasons to do it (once, lol). I usually update in the wee hours. I will sometimes re-send it one time, around 7 a.m. If I don’t, all the morning updates have rolled in and no one sees my late-night post.
Kathi
LOL Very funny, Dan…not
@niez_cho - I agree!
Xo
I already boycott time-stampers
There are a few people who timestamp on my list. And I HATE it. I try to at least glance through all of my subscriptions. And if people keep timestamping, I have no idea where I left off the last time. I see something I recognize and stop. Little do I know, they just made me miss lots of good content.
But generally, I still sub to them because they’re interesting. I already pretty much do the comment boycott, except to you. But if you did it every day, I would start commenting less on you, too.
ehh, I time stamped a lot during the election to keep my Obama support out there.
You can’t have the timestamp to end all timestamps, now you’re just as bad as them. I guess we need to boycott you..
hah! Two sentences when put back to back make me giggle a little. I think you know what ones(I’m assuming it’s the intention).
The only person that does this on my list is you Dan.
sure thing. But uh, what makes timestamping a necessity?
Hey MAN!! don’t poo-poo the time stamp thingy. It keeps my world flowing
most of my subs aren’t serial time-stampers
I’m more annoyed by the people who complain about them all the time
How does one timestamp, exactly? *devious thoughts
Hahaha… you’re a special one, Dan.
Never payed much attention to that….
Can people really go that far? Are they really that DESPERATE for hits?
hah.
lOLOL
I don’t take part in this. I get plenty of traffic without resorting to those schemes, haha.
I’ve only seen it done a few times in my subs, I think you’ve done it….
I do it only when I update the post cause I don’t like to have 5 different posts for one day, I’d rather put them in 1 post and divide it….
I also time stamp if I’m writing a post at like 3am and I’ll have it post at 8 am instead so people will read it.
I’ve been boycotting time stampers since day one. Time stamping is on par with pop up ads on your browser. I very much dislike pop up ads.
But then again, I don’t tell people how to blog. “Xanga Etiquette” is stupid. If people want to time stamp, they should do so as much as they want. We don’t need to start some boycotting drama. If it annoys you, just unsubscribe. That’s why they give you the option to do so.
I agree, and its annoying to see the same post over and over, if it gets to much, I delete them. But don’t you and a few others do it all the time???
I usually end up deleting the people who timestamp all the time anyway.
Sureee.
I think you are going to lose a lot of subs because of this post, and they’ll be from people who didn’t even connect that this post was written by the same person whose posts show up at the top of their page multiple times.
And you’re right, it is annoying when people timestamp all the time.
i did it when i added something new or edited some parts. that should be okay and … ethical right. haha
Nah. I never do it. I only do that when I proof read something I wrote and I realize there is a mistake in grammar or a misspelling…but then it’s only minutes after I posted. The only time that time stamping pisses me off is when I get suckered into visiting Emptyspirals site thinking he posted something, only to realize that he has the same post since 1962!
it annoys me A LOT. i will just delete them from my sub list and visit their site if i see a new entry, and yes, you are guilty of this.
stop hating me and my tricks to get more comments.
enough!
Ha ha ha.
lol. to make a statement, shouldn’t you encourage people not to comment on your post?
i don’t think people should comment on this, on the count that it’s hypocritical… er um… wait… i myself am commenting aren’t i… which makes me… argh.
there’s such a find line between irony and hypocrisy. i suppose the border is drawn at intention.
doesn’t matter to me, i could care less .
lol
I’ll stop when the people boycotting timestamping stop. Lucky for you, I don’t have a chronic timestamping problem…but I do it when it is necessary. LIKE, when I write a blog at 2 a.m…or some other odd time when everyone is still in bed.
I refuse to cancel my Drakonskyr subscription.
I only do this rarely and with good reason. 99% of the time it’s an entry i was working on and couldn’t finish for one reason or another and saved it under locked or private and forgot to update the time once the “final draft” was ready.
the way to catch a timestamp crook is if the comments are older than the entry. then we have a problem.
I am with you…
Oh that’s what it is. I was wondering…..
I had to time stamp today, but the only reason I did was because I wrote the entry at 1:00 in the morning and I really don’t think anyone saw it, so I stamped it at 5:00 in the afternoon when I figured more people would have a chance to see it without it getting buried by the morning posters. Had I wrote it at a time that I thought people had a decent chance to see it, I probably wouldn’t have… And I’m not stamping it again, so. I thought it was a legit reason, anyway.
psh i would totally reverse time stamp a post back to the 1500s just to screw with some people
The wrong doers are always the ones leading the reform…is this another ironic post? Should I laugh now?
I’m amazed that you haven’t yet posted an apology for your apprent sexism in the other post you made, which reached hundreds of eyes thanks to your (undeserved) spot on Featured Weblogs.
I timestamp my one post per day, no more than 3 times in that day (depending on when the post was first posted). So, if my post shows up at 6 am….I’d timestamp around noon….and then again in the evening (if needed). I have subs around the world…so timestamping does help. After 3 times in that one day, it’s a bit of overkill. Usually once or twice is the norm with me, and that’s only if it’s necessary.
lmao, you’re dumb.
It is a bit annoying seeing the same post 40 times in a day but if i’ve read it once then it becomes invisible to me like it’s not even there so i guess i’ve technically been boycotting them all along. Good luck with being attention to this noble cause.
is tht a big problem? I mean… maybe they really need to do tht? eeek i dnt know lol. i only do tht in my academic blog because my tutor wants to know if we’ve been keeping up with the schedule.
Dan, you invented it! lol
Wow, Dan. Am glad you mentioned this. I usually post after hours of doing my work typing and am not as alert to catch my errors. BUT I didn’t realize if you edited your post, it puts it at the top of the subs list. I just figured it edited it where it was on the list. Now, I feel bad because I usually edit quite a few times for a misspelled word or something that my spellchecker didn’t catch that I realized later in the day after going back and rereading my post. Sorry for any inconveniences I’ve caused you,
Ha. Even I see the sarcasm in this one.
I was thinking earlier of doing a rant about people who rant about stuff like timestamping and mass messages and other xangahabits.
@JUSTAVAPORHERE - Oh, you don’t have to worry about edits to the text; those don’t send a post to the top of a subscriptions list or to private pages. Timestamping is when you edit the post so that it’s updated to the the current time.
Oh, IRONY! I love it!
Isn’t this the second time you timestamped? would you be boycotting yourself?
Dan, this one was posted last night and now here it is again. Am I supposed to be boycotting you? I’m not only concerned but awfully confused.
Dan, you are a silly, silly man. Thanks for the LOL.
So this post reappeared on my private page by magic, eh?
I prefer girls with tramp-stamps. And only giving one eprop so I stand out. And writing in bold
and pimping my live online show
@ClockworkBunny - Thank you so much for that clarification..I was starting to feel REALLY bad, lol. I do the Xanga thing but am not familiar with all the ins and outs, lol. Thank you again for taking the time to let me know that. My day is improving,
Yeah.
there goes the timestamp…
I’m guilty of it so I can’t say too much
Come on, your last featured post was timestamped, and you know that only a fraction of your subscribers see the post if you DON’T do it.
Lol
This made me laugh, and even if you were being sarcastic, I rec’d anyway
i’ll just ignore them.
but I recommended anyway…
The definition of irony: made entirely of iron.
really now? timestamping? bunch of whiney pussies.
only cuz you are you
Uh! How does it work?
Yes, but he’s taught me a valuable lesson… mainly, don’t over-do it.
Thank you for your… sympathy, I guess it would be? :p
Nothing like a good laugh to start the day.
I’ve got better things to do.
I’m with you, Dan.
@twosidedme - i was thinking the same thing. i hate it when people timestamp, it’s as bad as spamming.
I do it if I have substantially updated a blog and most of the people on my sublist are equally courteous. I don’t have an issue with this.
You want us to boycott you? ;_;
i’m with Mae and you on this.
i don’t do it cuz i don’t give a dman if anyone reads me:) lol
it can be quite annoying.
especially multiple time-stamps on an entry i read like…3 or 4 days ago…
i understand the benefits and appreciate the option.
and i also even don’t mind it thaaat much.
it’s when people do it over and over and over…
that i find i want to bash my own head with my keyboard…
hahah…you’ve done it many times! Anyways, I don’t mind. But, if some people are getting annoying, I’ll delete them.
I boycott entries that beg to be recommended. Bad form!
@shanella - Yep, he does it all this time
Boycott Dan
i didn’t even know what timestamping was until now.
much less know how to do it.
I timestamp when I edit my post and add something new to it that wasn’t there before, like a new thought, example, etc. I don’t do it just to get comments or bump up my blog to the top of your list. Yet you believe that everyone should boycott those who use timestamp? So I should be boycotted? But you can timestamp to gather attention to your cause?
This just doesn’t make sense. Chronic timestampers are annoying, yes, but you can’t boycott EVERYONE who does it.
@RaVnR - Yes. This is something that I would agree with. If your writing is good, it will be recommended. People should stop pathetically begging.
OHHHH, so THAT’S why I’ve been reading posts that I already had read before. -___-
@twosidedme -
I did it once or twice when I was posting about the Darfur Crisis and i left a bunch of links in it to various petitions and donation sites (for example, one would donate a few cents for every unique hit it got)
Another time I was posting about a friend of mine who had gotten hit by a car and nearly died. I kept timestamping as more information was added to it. Mind you these came one at a time over the course of a few months…but…it can be necessary to keep stories from getting confusing and lost.
And isn’t there a legit case, like if I did substantial update on an old post? For the rest I would think I agree…
HEy! Did you google the word ‘time stamp’ too? I have the same picture…but I did NOT copy it from you.
And I am rivaling you! Meet me at the mall! It’s goin’ down!
Sure whatever you say.
Too bad we can’t time stamp comments. Then your readers could compete for last instead of first!
Of course, if we wanted to be annoying, we could do that anyway. haha
I’m down!
The only time I timestamp, or “update” the time on my post, is when I edit it and make a big change.
Eh. I haven’t noticed anyone doing this recently.
I see what you did thar
Please boycott me. PLEASE. Thanks.
[This comment will be re-timestamped in 15 minutes]
I timestamp but only on my contests so that people can find them… I was thinking earlier about just putting a box on my main page with links to the posts people visit often (like my contests and Secret Santa …) then I wouldn’t have to timestamp. But even people who are saying they HATE timestamping STILL DO IT all the time!
What about when you are legitimately editing a post? Does it still update the time in which an entry was posted?
I don’t get the whole thing… but I do know that SOME PEOPLE do it all the time.
lol@ the pot calling the kettle black!!
eh, it’s not a huge deal. Sometimes I update the time if I have edited the content of the post–and it makes sense to want people to see the changes.
I have a question.
If someone time-stamps, and you have already seen read that blog, why not just skip it and go to the next update in your universal inbox? Seriously.
@twosidedme - I don’t know about most people, but when I update a time-stamp on a blog, it is because I did a major update to it.
Wow… my post on timestamping wasn’t nearly as popular. Or maybe it’s just because my audience is just too small to have noticed that I’d even written one.
Thank you for reminding me to time stamp my entry.
No.
I think I’ll re-timestamp my blog. I haven’t done that in months. Which is just about as often as most people do it.
Lynn
@nluvwgreenday - Exactly! I don’t know what the fuss is about here.
“(As the leader of this boycott, I may have to timestamp in order to bring attention to this cause).” LOL thats hilarious. I’m guessing this was sarcasm. but idk why because timestamping really is annoying.
NO, I personally like the time stamp. And only person who is abusing it is you.
Seriously, who cares?
well no, i don’t care really. i do it, but i only do it when i actually update any content in a post so that people see the new content/corrections made.
