Same Sex Kissing
I was just reading an article about the actress Danneel Harris and how she is playing a role as a lesbian in a show. She mentioned it was “Awkward” to meet her costar because she never played a lesbian before. Here is the link: Link

I don’t think the difficult part is kissing another person. The difficult part is dealing with public perception if the show is a hit. Being known as “that gay guy,” when you’re not. I’m sure it makes future casting more difficult as well.

Society is becoming more open about homosexuality and it’s being displayed more and more in the media. I think more actors will be faced with playing gay characters. And if it’s a great, well-rounded character….why not? I would be like Dannelle and feel a little uncomfortable kissing someone of my same sex, but it would be that way too if I was kissing some random male actor I just met.
I have no problems kissing another man on the lips. does that mean I would? No. There’s no point to it.
see, It wouldn’t “turn me on” one bit. I’m not a homosexual and I have not allowed myself to develop feelings for other men.
I’ll take it even further. In the acting sense, I would PREFER to kiss a man over a woman because it wouldn’t be sexual to me whereas I’d have trouble with that if if were a woman. even real life actors often hook up with their on-screen romantic partners so I dare anyone would say “oh it’s just acting” and tell me different.
Since I’m not into the performing arts as an actor, I wouldn’t volunteer for any of this.
So I wouldn’t particularly enjoy it. Well, except for kissing a woman but that’s because I’m attracted to women. Doesn’t mean I would want to though.

I think it is short-sighted ever to say that you wouldn’t do something when an indeterminate amount of money is involved. I wouldn’t kiss another guy socially under any reasonably foreseeable circumstances, but I can’t say that there is no amount of money that would get me to do it. That being said, it would probably be a lot. And the amount that it took would depend a great deal on the co-star.
@SirNickDon - ./signed. kissing another dude would not be nearly as traumatic or damaging as everyone in the world knowing that you kissed a dude, even if you got paid for it.

I would play a gay (or trans) character on any show, for whatever the pay was without incentive. I wouldn’t need incentive. It’s incentive enough to play a gay character. There needs to be more homosexuals (and transgenders and transsexuals) in the media.
And I’d be up for kissing (and whatever else).
However, I would not play the character if it reinforced a stereotype, especially if I felt that stereotype was one that would hurt the queer community in any way.
…But I doubt many shows with gay characters aren’t reinforcing damaging stereotypes. So I probably wouldn’t end up doing it.
It’s amazing to me how shows such as Queer as Folk or The L Word which all gay characters, have almost an entirely straight cast. Very interesting.
Side note: I wonder which sex the “same sex” would be for me… Hmm… And I wonde if there are any intersex actors and actresses, hmm…

It depends on many outside and inside factors of each individual. What one person consider normal , another may feel is so out of the ordinary.

To me, it’s not that big a deal, because kissing supposedly came about as a form of affection because of methods of feeding babies who couldn’t chew their own food. It wasn’t originally sexual, and aside from “making out” it isn’t in most cultures. But the whole “Are you gay?” every time you ran into someone who’d seen the show would get real old, real fast.
