I can’t watch this right now, Serena’s videoing, lol!
I really hope this video isn’t serious. The peppy tune makes me think they’re trying to celebrate something, rather then make a serious point.
I haven’t been paying attention to this issue since I really don’t give a shit about things that’ll be dead in the media in three weeks, max.
We’ve got to stop the “we’ve got to stop the mosque at ground zero” song.
Heil! *Nazi salute*
I hate freedom of religion.
you know, I don’t think so. I’m just pretty concerned for those who will be attending said mosque. Everyone only has one reason as to why it shouldn’t be built. “It’s a slap in the face.” well- home of the free. Come up with a better excuse. Because that one is wearing out like a pair of cheap jeans.
Nope. Freedom of Religion.
yes, the mosque should be stopped as soon as we alter our constitution to reflect fear, hatred and bigotry.
Regardless of one’s opinion (mine being, let New York decide, which they have), that is a profoundly terrible song.
i was just watching the news about this
They should ask Dave Mustaine to rewrite this, and record it with his band. That’d sink the message in deep.
no problem. Given the fact that the “mosque” in question is actually NOT a mosque but a Islamic cultural center that by coincidence has a prayer room in it. This issue is moot. There are currently over two different mosques within blocks of ground zero that have been there for years. The fact the media is focus on an issue where they are deliberately giving misinformation just means you should shut the TV off…
I’m a New Yorker, I was there that day but everyone was hurt on 9/11. I respect that people died & continue to suffer but it’s stupid to blame a religion as a whole for the actions of a few stupid people. If this was a Church being built, it wouldnt be an issue. Freedom of Religion goes to everyone, not a select few. All these people preaching how American they are need to practice what they preach. And politicians need to stay out of it. They’re just adding more fuel to the fire.
And the CULTURAL CENTER will NOT be at Ground Zero, it’s 2 blocks away. Geography lessons are needed…
We’ve got to stop the spread of sensationalist journalism as a credible reporting technique.
That video is really annoying. I also don’t understand how it is a disgrace or what ever they are saying. Just cause some people belong to one religion and do something crazy doesn’t mean everyone in that religion is the same way. People need to stop complaining about this and start realizing everything else that is happening in the world.
@Leonidas - So true. Plus, even if it was a mosque, big deal. My mosque is practically an Islamic cultural centre anyway. If it’s terrorist plans they fear, they’re better off with a mosque, seeing as all people do in there is pray and then leave. You know Muslims gathering together for “social events” is way more scary.
@ScarletMoth - I would marry your comments if I could.
I hope this song wasn’t serious because it made absolutely no sense.
I think it’s an inappropriate place to build a mosque, or any other kind of religious building. Ground Zero, in my opinion, should be turned into some sort of a memorial type place for those whose lives were lost.
Those who hate on the mosque fail to take some things into account.
First amendment right. Yeah, I know that this will get lambasted by, “It’s fucked up to build a muslim monument right next to ground zero.” Who cares. The guys building the mosque know that they are not going to be taken in lightly. In fact, if it does get built, there will very likely be vandalism and theft and all that stuff. But it’s their choice, whether you like it or not, to build the mosque.
The mosque is two blocks north of ground zero. Sure, you can say that manhattan blocks are shorter and all that crap, but in actuality, how much of ground zero do you think the mosque can see? Zero. Manhattan is such a small island that space is an issue. Things get crowded and as an effect, entire different communities are in merely a couple of blocks from each other. There are many other things that are “on” Ground Zero” that, in your opinions, shouldn’t be there. The mosque is not ON Ground Zero.
There is already a mosque near Ground Zero. Why should building a new one change anything about the one that was there? If people are so inclined to refuse the building of this mosque, what about the other one? Are they going to take away property that is rightfully owned by a person just because of the religious affiliation of the building?
Are the Muslims who are building this mosque trying to fuck around with everyone else? NO. They are there to pray for the Muslims that died on 9/11. They might also be there because it’s a nice place. And yes, Muslims died there and then as well.
Yeah… >_>
AMEN!!! They want “conversation” with those that oppose them…..I don’t need conversation with them. NO! This is not a Muslim country no matter how much the man masquerading as president wants it to be.
What do we need to hit us before we listen?
WAS NOBODY LISTENING?
The following is a narrative taken from a 2008 Sunday morning televised “Meet The Press’. The author (Dale Lindsborg) is employed by none other than the very liberal Washington Post!!
From Sunday’s 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST, Televised “Meet the Press” THE THEN Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag.
General Bill Ginn’ USAF (ret.) asked Obama to explain WHY he doesn’t follow protocol when the National Anthem is played. The General stated to Obama that according to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171…During rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present (except those in uniform) are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Or, at the very least, “Stand and Face It”.
NOW GET THIS!! – - – - -
‘Senator’ Obama replied:
“As I’ve said about the flag pin, I don’t want to be perceived as taking sides”. “There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression..” “The anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all that sort of thing.”
(ARE YOU READY FOR THIS???)
Obama continued: “The National Anthem should be ‘swapped’ for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song ‘I’d Like To Teach the World To Sing’. If that were our anthem, then, I might salute it. In my opinion, we should consider reinventing our National Anthem as well as ‘redesign’ our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It’s my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we, as a Nation of waring people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where peace prevails – - – perhaps a state or period of mutual accord could exist between our governments.”
“When I become President, I will seek a pact of agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation, have placed upon the nations ofIslam, an unfair injusticewhich is WHY my wife disrespects the Flagand she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past”.
“Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put my hatred aside. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path..
My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country’s First black Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America ”
WHAAAAAAAT, the Hell is that!!!
Yes, you read it right. I, for one, am speechless!!!
Dale Lindsborg
Washington Post
There is no mosque at ground zero. There is no mosque planned at ground zero. There is no mosque planned even in the vicinity of ground zero.
Even the community center that has 2 floors of muslim prayer space planned to be placed over 2 blocks away from ground zero at the cite of an old abandoned Burlington Coat Factory that this ad is really referring to doesn’t have anywhere near the funding yet to be created and there’s no guarantee it would ever get the funding. So these protests are at the very least, extraordinarily premature.
That community center is not tied to terrorism. The man behind it is no radical. He’s been on Fox News many times and worked with the Bush administration to help catch terrorists. A year ago, the very same project he was planning was praised on Fox News as a sign of good faith from the muslim community and a symbol of peace as it was intended.
And even if absolutely none of that were true at all. Basic property rights still prevail. Unless you want to designate a war memorial that stretches over two blocks in every direction from ground zero and have that property be effectively seized and controlled by the government. That’s hardly a conservative position as far as I’ve ever known it.
The entire controversy is a load of BS. And ads like that scare the shit out of me.
something’s missing….cowbell.
It’s pretty much a done deal.
What’s even more sorrowful is that whereas the Jihadists will be able to build their victory monument to the 9/11 mass murderers, the Saint Nicholas Christian church (which was destroyed in the attack) will not be able to rebuild.
The New York port authority did not want the Christians rebuilding something that looked like a church.
@SexyGamerGirl - The issue has nothing to do with religious freedom. As I stated in my comment above, the Christian, St. Nicholas church was not allowed to rebuild.
As a New Yorker I feel that it is a bit insensitive to have a mosque built so close to Ground Zero, but I do realize that there is freedom of religion and they have every right to build there. Also, I don’t want to discriminate against the whole religion just because certain Muslims did this.
So though I may not support it full heartedly due to me being a New Yorker and remembering so many of my classmates being taken out of school because their parents were dead, I do acknowledge they have the right. I will not be angry if they actually build it there. I will simply go with the flow.
But I’d much rather see a memorial instead of anything religious in my opinion.
No.
While I’m not religious of any kind, I do feel like the mosque people need to be considerate of other people who like to enjoy a good stressful time at the Ground Zoo. Admitted, they do have freedom of religion, but they do not have freedom to do whatever that’s extremely disturbing to others’ surrounding. Case Schenck v. United States kinda proves my point. Kinda.
@mudkiwi - it IS being turned into a memorial site… the mosque is several blocks away from 9/11. it’s obviously not very doable to make several miles of the city a memorial site- which is what would have to happen for the mosque area to be included- so the mosque isn’t intruding on any memorial building.
I still don’t get how it’s insensitive since it wasn’t a Muslim attack against say Christianity. It was a very political attack that hurt people of far too many religions, including Muslims. This is no more insensitive than building a Catholic church in Oklahoma City (wasn’t the bomber Catholic?). I agree with all but like 2 people on that have already commented. I also like how the community center with a prayer room is still being called a mosque. And how 2 NYC blocks away is still being referred to as being at Ground Zero. Jeeze, I would’ve loved those size blocks when I visited NYC and walked across the city constantly. Trust me, it’s far away. Anything that hasn’t been rebuilt that people think should be that were extremely close to the towers probably aren’t being rebuilt because of all the construction. Trust me, the immediate area isn’t a very pretty place and is still full of construction and things that need to be fixed (at least this was the case a year and a couple months ago). So stop whining.
I think it’s an insult to those who died to have anything against building it, honestly. It’s just a shame that Americans would want to let a tragedy that happened years ago, take away the rights and freedoms laid out by the constitution from people of today. Because it’s not oh so patriotic the not respect the constitutional rights we have in America.
I mean, seriously, it’s ridiculous that people have an issue with it…
@TequilaKisses - ”mosque people need to be considerate of other people who like to enjoy a good stressful time at the ground Zoo”? Ground zero right…? And do you mean good stressFREE time? In which case A) it’s ground zero, never going to be a good, stress free time B) mosque is several blocks away, you will be able to go to ground zero without ever seeing the mosque.
@ScarletMoth - A-B) I don’t live around there. I assume everyone wants to be hassle-free, religious or not, normally. Even if it’s already stressful there, there’s still no need to put more pressure on the area. Moreover, I feel as if it’d be offensive and sort of unfair to not only the non-religious people, but also the other religious people that aren’t Muslim to have a mosque there. Everyone can claim they have freedom to do this and that, but the line draws where it expands the hatred and irritation to others.
@TequilaKisses - So seeing a mosque is stressful to you because you’re not a Muslim? Gee, I’m glad I don’t have the same mentality as you. If I did, every church I saw would make me want to keep kids away from it since the place must be full of pedophile preachers.
@elvish_fairy - I’m not saying seeing a mosque is irritating to me; seeing it, or hell any kind of church or temple, on Ground Zero is indeed a bit disturbing. But either way, this has always been a done deal.
@TequilaKisses - It won’t place any pressure at all unless they specifically are looking for pressure because the mosque IS NOT AT ground zero.
I don’t really understand your point. We shouldn’t have mosques because it would be offensive to people simply because they’re not Muslim? “I feel as if it’d be offensive and sort of unfair to not only the non-religious people, but also the other religious people that aren’t Muslim to have a mosque there.” It’s not like the non-religious and the religious are being prevented from placing their own buildings anywhere along the street. So… I’m not sure I understand what you’re getting at. I think it’s pretty fair to expect people other than yourself to want buildings, even if you are, say, non-religious.
@ScarletMoth - I acknowledge non-religious people, or other religious people regardless of Muslim, do have the right to build a building there. But I’m not pointing my finger at Muslim only. My point is that, if I were dead during 9/11 incident, my family and I would not want any kind of temple, mosque, or church around the area, because we weren’t religious at all. Building any sort of religious gathering around Ground Zero, I think it is disrespectful to the ones who passed away. Sooner or later, other churches and temples will crowd this place causing more irritation as well as religious discomforts against each other. It is a sad part in Constitution, at least to me.
I thought the mosque had been there before? Or at least I hear something along those lines.
No….we need absolutely nothing at Ground Zero.
We are lucky to live in a country where we have the freedom to practice our own religion. But Ground Zero? Really?
It isn’t even at Ground Zero! Even if it was, its time that we move on and do something with that real estate, its too valuable to let sit. Of course that spot is too useful as a political tool for the government to ever let anything meaningful ever happen on that spot.
As for the mosque? That’s a property rights issue in my book. The owner has a right to do what he wants to with his property.
Let the people of NY decide.
No.
the only reason i dont think they should build a mosque there is because i think they shouldnt build anything there unless its a place where people can permantely pay their respoects to those lost. i mean, hell, build a mosque anywhere ya want, but at a place where thousands lost there lives, nothing can fit there….not in any way shape or form.
That was quite possibly the worst song I’ve ever heard in my life. Barney the Dinosaur is a musical genius compared to this song. And people complain about being rick rolled…
Yeah, gotta protect that ultra hallowed Burlington-fucking-Coat-Factory site.
Because they might blow up the two tall buildings that aren’t there anymore?
This video is like one of those musical montages that would be on South Park to make fun of how stupid people are being. But it’s real… it’s !@#$ing real…
helllll no. and it’s two freaking blocks away. people are just being bitches.
for my money, they should build a religious complex that includes a mosque, a Christian worship space, a synagogue, as well as a Buddhist and a Hindu temple and perhaps an atheist outreach center so that perhaps we could demonstrate to the world all religions can and should exist in harmony. peace, Al
yes because. it is wrong first of all and second mosque are created to celebrate the killing of enemies or something close to that so yea
This song is so indecent because it’s just cheesy beyond belief. Shut the hell up!
Another example of the media sensationalizing a non-issue.
It is not a mosque; it is a community center for Muslims. There is a big difference. It is NOT at ground zero; it is TWO freakin’ blocks away. To stop the “mosque” on religious grounds would be a violation of the constitution itself. Enough said.
yes. it’s disrespectful…it can be blocks away like 20
Yep, stop the mosque.
Let them build it. Iran will probably nuke New York anyway.
what about not doing anything with “Ground Zero” easier than trying to fight over what’s right and wrong oh wait then there would be a fight over whether it’s a good idea to leave the lot empty. i forget, “we the people” like to fight and argue over ideas
Substitute “Westboro Baptist Church, Kansas” for “Muslims” want to build a house of worship near Ground Zero. Now lets have a discussion about “Freedom of Religion”
Absolutely, positively. It should not be built. It’s not for worship; it’s a trophy to terrorism.
I’ll admit that Ground Zero might not be the best place to build one, but this is getting fucking ridiculous now. This song is SO incredibly lame.
@Red_Apocalypse_Horse - Two blocks away and obscured from view in both directions by much taller buildings. Yep.
No. The owner of the property has the right to do with it what he pleases. Also, freedom of religion. All Muslims are not terrorists. It’s a community center they’re planning on building. I’m sure it will benefit the entire community as they will hold events, rent it out, etc. The community center is two blocks from Ground Zero. Closer to ground zero there’s fast food restaurants and strip clubs. This issue is one of racism and bigotry, nothing more. Think of how many Muslims were killed in 9/11. How many Muslim emergency workers risked their lives to save others. Muslims didn’t cause 9/11. Terrorists caused 9/11.
If people want to pray in peace – no, I do not think we should stop them from praying in peace. And they should be able to do so where they want to, as they are not the ones responsible for what a select few people did. Are all Southerners responsible for the actions of the KKK? Are all Germans responsible for Hitler’s actions? No. Contrary to what Republicans have suggested, Muslims are not Nazis, either.
What we’ve got to stop is racism. It’s fueling the fire.
It truly saddens and disgusts me how many people, including my own dad, think otherwise.
@hollowhopes - so then you would support “Westboro Baptist Church” the God Hates Fags protesters if they decided to build a house of worship at Ground Zero? Freedom of religion right.
@hollowhopes - and what has this got to do with racism? The discussion is about a religion, not a racial group. Unless you are insinuating that all Muslims are Arabic. But since Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world, that can’t be the case.
Your dad sounds like a pretty smart guy.
Sigh.
Once again, people are idiots. The damn thing isn’t at Ground Zero. It’s much more of a community center than a mosque. The people went through every single step necessary to get it erected, and have been actively anti-terrorism. This issue is old. And I’m a New Yorker.
Fucking let it go, people.
I wouldn’t be opposed if it were somewhere other than ground zero. I think that’s a very American piece of history, and needs to be preserved as such.
If anything, it should be like, a multi-religion thing. With a mosque, church, and everything else. Since NY is like a melting pot.
Oh gosh, no. This is so silly (and it’s not a mosque – more of a community centre from what I understand). This is absolutely so silly.
1) It’s not a mosque.
2) It’s not Ground Zero.
Tell me where there’s an issue with this.
everyone says freedom of religion, blah, blah, blah. nobodys saying that they can’t worship and participate in their own religion. people are saying that it’s not approriate for them to build a huge mosque on the grounds. just like the protesters say, “you can build a mosque on ground zero when we can build a synagogue in mecca.”; “building a mosque on ground zero is like building a memorial to hitler or auschwitz.”; “a mosque on the grounds of 9/11 spits on the graves on 9/11 victims.” and theeeen, they say “well, we had people die in 9/11 too”, thats sad, but why can’t you build a mosque anywhere else? im sure there are lots of different places.
Absolutely. A mosque built there under Rauf’s terms simply corrupts the meaning of why that tragedy happened. He’s simply bestowing a blessing upon the barbarians who did this heinous crime instead of giving a voice to religious freedom. Political correctness will kill us all one day if we don’t wake up to reality.
yes, because everyone who goes to a mosque wants to kill everyone who isn’t like them. the fact that this topic is even a topic makes me sick.
@valis10 - Yes, you’re right, my dad is very smart but his opinions on this matter are misled. And though I wouldn’t be thrilled about that church – yes, they have every same right to build their church as these Muslims. Except they are radicals; these Muslims are not. It’s also not just a mosque and it’s also not at ground zero.
I don’t like the song. It sounds like it’s not taking the matter seriously. I’m not a NY’er but I think this whole mosque idea @ Ground Zero is utterly disrespectful to the victims’ families.
ryc: The commies and hommasexuals, that’s who!
AMIRITE
Hmmm… well, it’s a cultural center, not a mosque (though it does CONTAIN a mosque). And it’s 2 blocks away from Ground Zero. So… uh, no. I’m fine with it being there. And white American Christians were not the only ones killed on 9/11. People seem to forget this. Along with that, on 9/11, everything changed regarding the perception of people with relatively dark skin… everyone that “looked” like the terrorists got flack for it. I have a friend who is from India who has been the target of racist comments post-9/11. It’s really quite sad.
Stop it? No. I wish they’d build somewhere else, but I don’t think we should prevent it being built there.
No, not at all.
I know it might be a bit prejudiced of me to say this, but…the fact that there is a country song expressing the viewpoint automatically makes it retarded. THAT is a cold, hard fact.
i say let the new yorkers vote on it.
they’re the ones who have to live with it being built there.
if they say they don’t care or that they want it built there, then who are we to say no to them. I’m not going to push them to forgive whomever they feel the need to blame or to let go something that still pains them… neither am i going to refuse them to the choice to built something or let go of something that pains them no longer.
as for legality, they have the right to build a mosque/cultural center there… whether or not it’s wise for them to build it there, is another story… and i ain’t wise enough to decide that one.
Wow, amazing song. My mind is changed. Screw freedom of religion, stop the Muslims!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t tell if this song is trying to be serious.
@leonidas So wish people actually paid attention to details, but guess that’s not happening any time soon. But, hey! Let’s keep the old Burlington Coat Factory store site holy! Because imperfect brand name coats being sold at low price points is very key indeed.
i didnt know it was mobile. i dont think it’s our responsibility to stop it, but it does need to comply with all traffic laws and yield to oncoming traffic.
You people are so stupid! Just think of it this way, if there is a MOSQUE there what are the ODDS of them BOMBING IT AGAIN?
DUH! In fact, everybody should just GO MUSLIM, just as a FAD, then we can be SAFE FOREVER!
Then you can still WORSHIP CHRIST to YOURSELVES, and KEEP US ALL IN PEACE!
No, we don’t. This is stupid. There’s a mosque 4 blocks from Ground Zero. Why not have one two blocks away? Anyone who believes they shouldn’t build it there is a slave to Fox News and their idiot punditry.
It’s not at Ground Zero, it’s two long city blocks away in a commercial district with many empty storefronts.
No, we don’t need to stop it. And neither is it a slap in the face. I think that given all the controversy it’s causing (and the fact that they probably knew it would cause controversy), they could find a better place to build it, but I don’t oppose it because:
1. The US Constitution explicitly allows freedom of religion. 2. The Muslims who are supposedly responsible for the 9-11 are not the same ones who are building the mosque. Saying all Muslims are terrorists is like saying all Catholics are pedophiles: both are ridiculous assertions. 3. Allowing the mosque to be built is a public acknowledgment of reason #2.
I do worry, though, that if this mosque is built, that it would be attacked by people who felt very strongly that it shouldn’t be built. (Not that everyone who opposes it would get violent, but it’s possibly that some, at least would follow the same line of thought that prompts people to bomb abortion clinics)
Of course allow the mosque–and a Marian grotto–and a synagogue–and a Buddhist stupa–and a Hindu, Shinto, and Sikh temples–and a pentecostal storefront revival church. In a row. Call it the Holy Block. And then build a soup kitchen. And a crisis center. Have them staffed by rotating members of all the places of worship. That’s how they do it in Jerusalem at the Christian churches and holy sites. Each group is resposible for a portion.
When I first heard about it, I thought it was right on ground zero. I was like HELL no! Then I heard it was just near ground zero, and I thought… across the street? HELL no. Now I hear it’s too blocks away… meh, go for it.
It’s not a Mosque. Anyone who thinks it is clearly doesn’t follow facts.
@maniac_rose - Islam didn’t attack the United States. A terrorist group that happens to consider themselves Muslim did. And, it’s not a Mosque. So, before you got self-righteous and decided where a community center should and should not be built, you should have probably listened to the facts. It’s a community center. Not a Mosque. There will be basketball and a culinary arts school. Two floors of the 13 floor building will be dedicated to pray. That’s it. It’s being built in an old Burlington Coat Factory on a completely different street behind where the WTC stood.
Why is this such a big deal? Just because the terrorists were Muslim it doesn’t automatically mean all Muslims are terrorists. That’s just ignorance. If a church was being built there, no one would say anything about it.
1. It’s not even a mosque.
2. I don’t understand why people are acting like it’s a Bin Laden Shrine or something.
3. It’s not even at Ground Zero.
God. This topic is getting old. People should seriously start getting their facts straight.
I just don’t understand the need to call this cultural center “Cordoba House,” given the history of that area in Spain and how that history paralells the intent of modern day radicals. I believe they have a right to build a ”cultural center” (or whatever it is) and that it is unconstitutional for the government to stop them. That said, in history classes I have taken, Cordoba was always portrayed as an emblem of Islamic victory over the West. For that reason, I find the name to be very insensitive and I wish that they would change it. But, I’m not a history major, so maybe there is some other reason they chose the name Cordoba, and if anyone is aware of that reason, I would really love to be enlightened.
@airbornerose - Best part of this comment: “And I’m a New Yorker.” < Thus far, all of the Xangans whom I can readily identify as New Yorkers have been in favor, with a bunch of folks from other places disagreeing in what is really a local issue.
@mudkiwi - It’s not being built on ground zero, it’s being built 2 blocks away from ground zero. There is already mosque [or 2] within a few blocks from ground zero, and I’m sure there’s a church or two as well. With all of that being said, it’s not a mosque…it’s an Islamic Cultural Center with only 2 out of 13 floors with prayer rooms in it, along with gyms and other rooms.
@barefoot_nomad - I completely agree with you. Most of the natives just don’t care because they understand it for what it is. Honestly, people raise hell to just raise hell and get involved in things that don’t truly mean anything to them.
No, we shouldn’t stop it.
@airbornerose - Yep. Observing as a non-New Yorker, I have to wonder what is going on when those closest to the issue seemed to side with the decision to build and a great number of people with a lot of (to me, unreasonable) emotion are loudly decrying it.
So much of American discussion lately seems to be centered on making tons of noise about non-issues. It gives me the chills.
I like the part where he said “We’ve got to stop the mosque at ground zero.”
/sarcasm
Didn’t care for the song…..but as a parent of a firefighter…..absolutely stop the mosque at ground zero. This isn’t a freedom of religion issue….it’s a common sense one. Just as you don’t allow sex offenders to live next to a school or a liquor store right next to a church…..the mosque should be built somewhere else.
Ground Zero should remain just that….I am Muslim and I believe it’s a load of shit!! What about the memory of all the people that tragically died there? What about the families that had to live with the loss of the tragic deaths that happened there? Why the fuck a mosque when it was blatantly a bunch of fucked up in the head muslims that fucked things up for us regular Joe’s all over the world??? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO TO NO SHITTING MOSQUE!!!!!!
Isn’t there a mosque a few blocks away? That’s a smack in the face to America.
This song sucks big time. I think I’d better get a barf bag. Sounds like some shitty country song.
Anyway, Freedom of Religion, First Amendment and all that Constitution stuff.
The overwhelming support for refusing this building – which is neither a mosque or at Ground Zero – from being built is absolutely disgusting. If you can’t distinguish terrorist organizations from a religious group that has been in the United States of America since its founding, you’ve got more issues than what gets built in New York.
I giggled all the way through that video. Is that bad?
This is all-the-more reason that the Islamic Cultural Center be built there… Focusing on this is issue is really, REALLY going to hurt the Republican party in November. JOBSJOBSJOBS
@starvealltheway - …and you’re Muslim. haha. What about all the Muslims that died there? What about all the Muslims that didn’t kill anyone? What about the fact it’s not a mosque and not at Ground Zero?
Many of you sound like you’ve got your head screwed right on.
i wont bother watchin the video, ill just answer the question. i think that “nine eleven” happened just about ten years ago and we can all move on from that one occurance. it is nothing compared to the actual issues that surround it- we need to treat the disease and not just the symptom.
No…we got to start getting along with each other
Oh hell I have answered this so many times I am getting tired of it.
honestly im pretty sure people would have the same kind of reaction to if christians wanted to build a church there. i think its not a matter of MUSLIMS getting freedom of religion…its just that no one wants any religion to be present there at all. i think. only an opinion. anyone see what i mean?
Tbh, no they shouldn’t.
It’s not the whole Islam relgion that believes in things such as suicidal bombings, its the crazed fanatics.
We don’t take it out on Christianity when a warped religious believer of the religion kills people in the name of God or Christ..
Albeit, it is a little disrespectful, but perhaps they feel at fault.
There’s so many arguements to this tbh.
@michell - Once again it’s Two long city blocks away from “Ground Zero”. Honesty, if it were a Christian church there would be no uproar about it. Most of the people against it are opposing it because it is an Islamic Community Center, and sadly they automatically associate Muslims [even Americans who happen to be of the Muslim faith] with terrorists.
@mudkiwi - sweetie, it’ll be two blocks away. do your research.
@tukhahaha - Thank you, I was just about to correct her. Frankly, I think she’s full of it.
@TheSunnyC - he didn’t say anything about being muslim. he’s trying to be respectful to those who see the flag as a symbol of opression and pain. did you even read your own post? or are you just blindly posting what you THINK you read? I’m not muslim, but i agree with what he’s doing. i actually find it very respectful. you really ought to read what you post before posting it…
@Mikke3vArt - IT ISN’T AT GROUND ZERO. OH MY GOODNESS!!!!
absolutely not. freedom of religion… even though I hate religion and would rather no religious buildings ever be built. :p
@TequilaKisses - but it has absolutely nothing at all to do with ground zero.
@atticusfin - Once again it’s Two long city blocks away from “Ground Zero”. Honesty, if it were a Christian church there would be no uproar about it. Most of the people against it are opposing it because it is an Islamic Community Center [with only 2 out of 12 floors dedicated to prayer rooms], and sadly they [in this case, including yourself] automatically associate all Muslims [even Americans who happen to be of the Muslim faith] with terrorists.
That sex-offender analogy doesn’t fly. Most sex offenders are men, does that mean all men are sex offenders? No. … The most infamous terrorist group is allegedly comprised of Muslims, does that mean all Muslims are terrorists? Hell No.
Get your facts straight before comparing a religious group to sex offenders, unless you’re talking about Catholics [BUT THAT WOULD BE WRONG AS WELL].
@smilesunshinee__x - Last time I checked there were millions of Americans of the Muslim faith, so it’s not a smack in the face to America.
Are we going to do what’s wrong (prohibit it) because of fear of what might happen if we did what’s right? I haven’t heard one logical argument for prohibiting it but only emotional irrelevance. But the hate-mongers know how to instill fear and I’m afraid they might have to base their decision on fear of the hate-mongers rather than do what’s right and let them build it.
@barefoot_nomad - It is how politics now work. Deflection, deflection.
They have every legal right to build it and we should not allow the door to be opened for the govt. to insert itself into matters of “church” if you will. The last thing I would want is to have the govt. having more power to arbitrarily deny construction of a religious establishment. Do I think it is insensitive and an act of provokation to build it there? Sure, but it is their right and a right I don’t think should be encroached upon. I no more agree with the attitude some have of building it at all costs than I do of others who want it stopped at all costs. I think we need to be wary of the kinds of precedents we threaten to set with the actions we take in these matters.
I think anyone who has a problem with the mosque is either A. is intolerant of other cultures B. forgot the principles that this country was founded on C. doesn’t realize that Muslims were murdered on 9/11 too D. does not know how to differentiate wars started for political reasons rather than religious ones.
Why does this song sound like something out of “Team America: World Police”?
I am all for freedom of religion, but they do not want it there because of freedom of religion. they want it there as a slap in the face of Americans. A big look what we did to the rest of the world. So no I do not think it should be allowed to be put there, and it is very insensitive to the families who lost people on 9-11
@rebekah1191 - LOL. I must find out where you get your information from. It seems very accurate.
@summerdreams505Aa - Nah. I think 20 blocks away is pretty disrespectful. I mean why do we even have to build a mosque in New York at all? Never mind that Muslims also lost their lives on 9/11. Yeah, never mind that. It’s pretty disrespectful regardless. Stupid Muslims who live around that area can walk right? 20′s good.
@Mighty_Men_of_Valor - Are you aware that Muslims died on that day too? I’m pretty sure those people building that would want to slap those victims in the face too.
Comments (161)
That’s not a very catchy tune.
“It’s a slap in the face.”
well- home of the free.
@seeker_nyc - win.
@cmclymer - freedom of religion sucks!
Oh, most DEFINITELY! I mean, because Freedom of Religion totally ISN’T in the Constitution!
This song is epic LOLZ
@ShimmerBodyCream - What! I’m STILL humming it!
la la la, that’s a cold hard fact! la la
See, catchy.
@Queen_of_You188 - You do know I was being sarcastic, right?
Hallowed land. rofl. A mosque is more “hallowed” than a strip club.
@MangoWOW - Exactly. I was practically about to get up and dance before I remembered it was supposed to be about a sad issue.
@seeker_nyc - Do you always read people’s thoughts?
@OhItWontBeForever - I just call em like I see em
@Leonidas - So true. Plus, even if it was a mosque, big deal. My mosque is practically an Islamic cultural centre anyway. If it’s terrorist plans they fear, they’re better off with a mosque, seeing as all people do in there is pray and then leave. You know Muslims gathering together for “social events” is way more scary.
@ScarletMoth - I would marry your comments if I could.
@ShimmerBodyCream - first comment. and best.
@cmclymer - of course I do. And YOU know that I was being sarcastic too, right?
@OhItWontBeForever - haha yay
I haven’t seen you around in a while
I hope this song wasn’t serious because it made absolutely no sense.
I think it’s an inappropriate place to build a mosque, or any other kind of religious building. Ground Zero, in my opinion, should be turned into some sort of a memorial type place for those whose lives were lost.
@ScarletMoth - On point as usual.
Those who hate on the mosque fail to take some things into account.
First amendment right. Yeah, I know that this will get
lambasted by, “It’s fucked up to build a muslim monument right
next to ground zero.” Who cares. The guys building the mosque know that they are not going to be taken in lightly. In fact, if it does get built, there will very likely be vandalism
and theft and all that stuff. But it’s their choice, whether you like it
or not, to build the mosque.
The mosque is two blocks
north of ground zero. Sure, you can say that manhattan blocks are
shorter and all that crap, but in actuality, how much of ground zero do
you think the mosque can see? Zero. Manhattan is such a small island
that space is an issue. Things get crowded and as an effect, entire
different communities are in merely a couple of blocks from each other.
There are many other things that are “on” Ground Zero” that, in your
opinions, shouldn’t be there. The mosque is not ON Ground Zero.
There is already a mosque near Ground Zero. Why should building a
new one change anything about the one that was there? If people are so
inclined to refuse the building of this mosque, what about the other
one? Are they going to take away property that is rightfully owned by a
person just because of the religious affiliation of the building?
Are the Muslims who are building this mosque trying
to fuck around with everyone else? NO. They are there to pray for the
Muslims that died on 9/11. They might also be there because it’s a nice
place. And yes, Muslims died there and then as well.
Yeah… >_>
AMEN!!! They want “conversation” with those that oppose them…..I don’t need conversation with them. NO! This is not a Muslim country no matter how much the man masquerading as president wants it to be.
What
do we need to hit us before we listen?
WAS
NOBODY LISTENING?
The
following is a narrative taken from a 2008 Sunday morning
televised “Meet The Press’. The author (Dale Lindsborg) is
employed by none other than the very
liberal Washington Post!!
From
Sunday’s 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST,
Televised “Meet the Press” THE THEN Senator Obama
was asked about his stance on the American Flag.
General
Bill Ginn’ USAF (ret.) asked Obama to explain WHY he doesn’t
follow protocol when the National Anthem is played. The
General stated to Obama that according to the United States Code,
Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171…During rendition of the national
anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present (except those in
uniform) are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with
the right hand over the heart. Or, at the very least, “Stand and
Face It”.
NOW
GET THIS!!
– - – - -
‘Senator’ Obama
replied:
“As
I’ve said about the flag pin, I don’t want to be perceived as
taking sides”. “There are a lot of people in the world to whom the
American flag is a symbol of oppression..” “The anthem itself
conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in
air and all that sort of thing.”
(ARE
YOU READY FOR THIS???)
Obama
continued: “The
National Anthem should be ‘swapped’ for something less parochial
and less bellicose. I like the song ‘I’d Like To Teach the World
To Sing’. If that were our anthem, then, I might salute
it. In my opinion, we should consider reinventing our
National Anthem as well as ‘redesign’ our Flag to better offer our
enemies hope and love. It’s
my intention, if elected, to
disarm America to the level of
acceptance to our Middle
East Brethren. If we, as a Nation of waring
people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where
peace prevails – - – perhaps a state or period of mutual accord
could exist between our governments.”
“When
I become President, I will seek a pact of agreement to end
hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of
enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts.
We as a Nation, have
placed upon the nations of Islam,
an unfair injustice which
is WHY my wife disrespects the Flag and
she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the
past”.
“Of
course now, I
have found myself about to become the President of
the United
States and I have put my hatred aside.
I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the
people a new path..
My
wife and I look forward to becoming our Country’s First black
Family. Indeed, CHANGE
is about to overwhelm the United States of
America ”
WHAAAAAAAT,
the Hell is that!!!
Yes,
you read it right.
I,
for one, am speechless!!!
Kinda.
@TheSunnyC - Check your facts next time. Oh wait, done.
What does it mean to masquerade as president anyhow?
RE: St. Nicholas Church the situation is complex.
In which case
A) it’s ground zero, never going to be a good, stress free time
B) mosque is several blocks away, you will be able to go to ground zero without ever seeing the mosque.
@ShamrockLover - Agree. 100%.
@ScarletMoth -
A-B) I don’t live around there.
Ignorance is surely sad..see this video-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZpT2Muxoo0 ; I think everyone should watch it..
@TequilaKisses -
It won’t place any pressure at all unless they specifically are looking for pressure because the mosque IS NOT AT ground zero.
I don’t really understand your point. We shouldn’t have mosques because it would be offensive to people simply because they’re not Muslim?
“I feel as if it’d be offensive and sort of
unfair to not only the non-religious people, but also the other
religious people that aren’t Muslim to have a mosque there.”
It’s not like the non-religious and the religious are being prevented from placing their own buildings anywhere along the street.
I need to be high to listen to this song.
@SeeBeeWrite - I so agree with you
@seeker_nyc - Agreed!
@radicalsounds - lmao
Not with that song.
@OhItWontBeForever - Any social event without alcohol is scary.
@pukemeister - Nice one Al.
yes. it’s disrespectful…it can be blocks away like 20
Yep, stop the mosque.
Let them build it. Iran will probably nuke New York anyway.
what about not doing anything with “Ground Zero”
easier than trying
to fight over what’s right and wrong
oh wait
then there would be a
fight over whether it’s a good idea to leave the lot empty.
i
forget, “we the people” like to fight and argue over ideas
@chaospet - I lol’d.
@ScarletMoth - Agreed.
Then you can still WORSHIP CHRIST to YOURSELVES, and KEEP US ALL IN PEACE!
http://scarletmoth.xanga.com/731923633/about-that-mosque-why-it-should-happen/
No it has every right to be placed there.
I live in Canada so my opinion is moot.
@ScarletMoth - I’m about to go check out that entry now, feel free to read this: http://chosen-defined.xanga.com/731725228/believe/
@nephyo - Exactly, let’s not forget that it’s not even a mosque but an Islamic Cultural Center which will have a prayer room [or two] in it.
@LoBornlytesThoughtPalace - LMAO, you’re hilarious.
@EccentricSiren - I agree.
@hollowhopes - I agree.
@MayoKetchup - I’m a New Yorker and I don’t think it should be put to a vote. Constitutional rights and property rights should not be put to a vote.
@barefoot_nomad - I find that interesting as well.
@airbornerose - @emily_shannon -
@rafi09 - @zzzzzulavalle - @Rana0614 - @phonotactic - @Liquid_Pain_523 - @AttemptingPoetry - Exactly!
*Xanga’s Batman Out*
If by “Mosque” you mean community center, and by “at” you mean near.
http://chosen-defined.xanga.com/731725228/believe/
@At_Sixes_And_Sevens - @ShamrockLover - I agree Freedom of Religion
Are we still talking about this?
We are really still talking about this!
@TheSunnyC - Please take a look at the truth!
http://pholowme.xanga.com/731837335/the-truth-on-the-ground-zero-mosque/
I giggled all the way through that video. Is that bad?
This is all-the-more reason that the Islamic Cultural Center be built there…
Focusing on this is issue is really, REALLY going to hurt the Republican party in November.
@saeglopur@mancouch - Exactly.
@airbornerose - So true and so ridiculous. *sigh*
Why does this song sound like something out of “Team America: World Police”?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhnUgAaea4M
@elvish_fairy - it was on fox news
