LOL – Changing My Internet Laugh
I am giving serious thought to changing my Internet laugh. I started years ago with “ha.” Someone told me that no one could tell when I was being sarcastic online. So I should add some sort of laugh to my statement.
After awhile, someone indicated to me that simply writing “ha” made it feel like I was not really laughing at all. So she suggested “haha.” So for the last 3-4 years, I have used “haha.”
But now that is getting old for me. I can never bring myself to use “lol.”
I can think of several options:
1. lol
2. Haha
3. Buhaahahah
4. LMAO
5. lulz
How do you express laughter on the Internet?
Comments (99)
I do different laughs
If I’m actually laughing – LOLIf it was kind of funny – haif it was a bit funnier than kind of – hahaif It’s histerical lmao
It definitely depends on the situation. Haha, if it’s funny, but not funny enough to actually make me lol. =p
Btw, that picture is terrifying.
I don’t express laughter on the Internet.
I think capital letters get the point across more. So if i really think something is funny, i will use LOL in capitals. Maybe you could just use haha and HAHA depending on the situation. Is that enough of a change for you? lol
depends on the subject and my current mood. Sometimes “hahaha” expresses it better than just typing “lol,” though I use that sometimes, too. A lot of my friends overuse “lol,” as in, use it to start or end almost every sentence regardless of the hilarity of the subject.
#3 on your list sounds similar to “Mwahahah” or “Muahahaha” or “Moohahaha” (which ever spelling you prefer) which is the standard “evil laugh.” So I wouldn’t advise using that one. Unless you actually are evil, in which case it’s perfect.
Depends but I guess I lolololololololol
Rob of the Sky
lol I like it. It is common. Everyone knows what it means. I do not like changing things.
I thought the internet was only for serious things
I use “HAHAHHAHAHAHA”
;D > chuckle, :0 > Ho ho ho hah ha ha (kinda of a belly laugh). :# > sputtering side splitter, not good for children to see….
Otherwise I use, LOL, lol, LMAO, giggle, snicker, snort etc….
i use “pahuhuahuahuahua”
everytime you laugh, a kitten dies.
i’m so tired of seeing lulz. but only because i know people who say it….in real life. using it in every day conversation is just wrong. i say “haha” or “lol” or if it’s really funny i use all caps.
Depends for me.
I don’t.
Sometimes I say “Teeheehee” which evidently brings to mind an evil midget…
I don’t laugh online. The internet is serious business.
DEFINITELy BUAHAHAHHAAH
or. mUAHHAHHahhahahah
…
lol is fine
Dear Dan,
What, me worry?
Michael F. Nyiri, poet philosopher, fool
Actually, I was just discussing this the other day.
If it’s a funny situation that happened in real life I say “Ahaha.” If it’s something funny from online I say rofl or roflol. If it’s very hilarious I capitalize the phrase and/or add an extra haha or lolol.
Dear Dan,
That is some scary chick. I… can’t ….take….my ….eyes…off….her.
Michael F. Nyiri, poet, philosopher, fool
Ugh don’t use lulz, lol. For me, it just depends on what kind of laugh I do.
If it makes me silently chuckle to myself, then I say “lol”. If it’s something I say that I think is stupid or funny or ridiculous or something, i say “haha”….I didn’t plan this out, but now that I think about it, that’s how it happens, haha (see?)If I actually laugh at loud, I say “lmao”. And if it’s the kind of laughter where it kind of explodes out of you, that’s when a use a “bahaha”
I was instructed last year, while chatting online with my college student son, that I was completely in error to use LOL, because it was not supposed to be capitalized…according to him, it was like I was yelling my laughter when things really weren’t that funny. I explained to him that because I am old and have been on the internet longer than he has, that we old farts have been using LOL since it was invented, and that after all, it did mean “laughing OUT LOUD.” This resulted in an hour long discussion (well, at least it seemed like it) about how he was right and I was wrong, so he has now cured me of using LOL with him. I am now afraid to laugh online.
I actually tend to use “heh” or “heh heh”.
I say “haha” when I am being sarcastic. I say “LMFAO” when something is really funny.
I probably lol too much. But I lol.
Ha, haha, hahaa! Dahhahahaa! Bahhahahaa! LOL! LMAO! Ahhahhahahahaaaa!
by your 1, 2, 4 =D
I usually say haha
Hahaha, lol, or LQL (Laughing Quite Loudly)
Yes, but only if it actually causes me to react as the acronym implies.
Use teehee!
I use a lot of different laughs, especially when I’m IM-ing someone. I’ve found that my language tends to morph into some mix of theirs and my own, and I have completely different styles depending on who I’m talking to. I will admit to being a fan of “lulz”, but I don’t use it very often. The internet is serious business, y’all.
Only on Xanga.
I dont use chatrooms (like msn) or use it on Facebook
I do the old Hahaha… I’ve never been a lol user. Looks like a zombie. Beside, people use it as a suffix to everything now. Even stuff that isn’t funny.
Hehe and ROFLMAOBBQWTF…definitely.
trollolol
just to name a few:
1. lol, looool, lolololol, etc.. if its really funny, LOL2. behehehe. must start with b.3. lmao, lmfao.. 4. ahhahaha. hahaha. heheh. 5. uahahhahahaah !
If it’s not funny just “ha” but if it’s freaking hilarious “hahahahahahahahahahha” and if its not funny but you want to humour them then “aha”
my friend uses, jijijij which at first really confused me. i think it has something to do with Spanish or it might just be a slang thing for her. give “jijij” a try…
Noooooooooo, “haha” is so you. Don’t change.
i throw around “haha” a lot… but if I really laughed out loud, I “hahaha!…” and accompany it with an emoticon. : )
lol if something is amusing, but doesn’t actually make me laugh. Hahaha if it makes me laugh a little. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! is for absolute hysterical laughing.Muahahaha is pretty well understood as being something evil. Tee-hee is for when I’m being silly and/or cute.
hehe – it’s a laugh, but it really means it wasn’t funny
lol – that was kinda funny
haha – same as lol
LOL – now THAT was hilarious
LMAO!! – seriously, that made me double over in laughter.
hahahahahahahahahhah!! – same as LMAO!!
ROFLMAO!! – I didn’t really, I just like saying ROFLMAO in the computer voice.
lolz, lulz, any spelling with ‘z’ – kinda dumb imo
lawl – phonetic spelling of lol
Usually with “lol”, sometimes with “haha” and in certain situations “hehe” but that’s usually only used in silly occasions
whatever my fingers feel like keying in
How about a laugh like Goofy, “ah-hyuck!“
I know it’s dated, but I like lol… *sigh* I am a creature of habit.
my son suggested Muhuhahahahaha! Of course you have to develop a wicked cackle to get through all that, i lol, its sort of got stuck!
I won’t say ‘lulz’ because thats jackassish and asinine. I do say ’lol’ because if i do find something funny its easier than ‘hahahahah’ or whatever bs, if its mildly funny ill say ‘hah’ or ‘heh’.
ahahaha.
If it’s really funny.
I tend to use:
hahahahaha, lol, rofl, puhahahaha, mwahahahaha, or teehee.
.
i like to mix n match too
more of a ‘lol’ kind of girl but usually if it’s something hysterical then my fingers get this urgency to just get something on there and it usually results in … Bwahahaahahahaahahah!!!!!!!
Bwaha, baha, or haha. If I’m really laughing, it’s usually “ahahahaha” or “HAHA!” However, I don’t see you using any of those.
I use either “lol” or “haha”
I used to use “lol” a lot, but then I got used to using “haha” or “hehe” instead and it’s just stuck.
LMSFAO
“That’s funny”.
hehehehehehehhe
LOL, lol, ROFL, hahahahahahahahahahahaha, hehehehehehehehehehe. Depending on how funny it was and my mood.
Be inventive… GB= gut buster. DIPL= death inducing paralysis laughter. PSEL= projectile saliva emitting laughter. LSHICB…= laughing so hard I can’t breath… (be careful with this one as the three dots indicate imminent death.
Most important, just be yourself… no one will call you out on your internet laugh choice… probably.
Oh, and if you’re Chuck Norris you should remember… you never laugh.
I use ‘ha ha’. It looks more appropriate.
I use “haha” because I just…hate the rest of those
and I use emoticons a lot too. People always think that I’m serious when I’m joking and vice versa, so I have to use a lot of “haha” ‘s.
ehhhhh…
@ItIsAllGravy - I agree with this gravy person. It is the the same method I use. And gravy is good on mashed potatoes. So, how can this person be wrong?
@JimmyBuffettDied - Exactly – I’m never wrong.
If I find something funny, I use “lol” or “lawlz” even if I’m not actually laughing. I use “haha” but more in a sarcastic way. And when I’m seriously laughing, I use “lmmfao!” or just “lmao.”
Depends, I was just about to say something along the lines of depending on how I’d react to it in real life. I have a different interwebz laugh for different situations. Huh!
all depends on how yuh feel about de conversation
ha for sarcastic laughs, haha for something a little funny, and then however many “ha”s I need when something is really funny
I equate lol = chuckle, slight chuckle
LOL = omg really funny
LMAOOOOO = omg ahahahahahah *can’t breathe”
I use lol often, and haha , or hehe . I felt the urge to put one of those on the end of this sentence.
I use “haha” for things I find amusing, “hahaha” for things I find funny, and on rare occasions when I’m really laughing out loud, I’ll throw out an “lol”.
Why not just add an exclamation point to your original? Thus: Ha!
If something is really funny just go with “Haha!”
ha! means touche!
haha is like that jerk, nelson muntz, from the simpsons, who says it in a sarcastic way where you want to beat him up
buahahah is more of a crazy coo coo for cocoa puffs laugh where you tag them and say they are it, then make their fatass chase you
lmao is saved for the rare hilarious moments where a simple lol isn’t justified. this is when you win the lottery, which is one in a trillion. good luck lmao
lulz is how a chubby perez hilton diva laughs while he makes the annoying angelina ducky face
this will get 5 consecutive slaps to their face~
hahah.. I use “Lawl” (it’s what I say when I sound out “L” “O” “L”
sometimes tee hee
funny – haha
evil laugh – muahahaha
if it made me laugh a lot – BLAH HA
cute laugh – tee hee
hahaha or haha for just general laughter.
ha for a response when someone says something witty and insulting (all in good humor of course).
teehehe when I say something really silly or to insinuate a bit of an evil laugh or when it’s something I probably shouldn’t be giggling at.
hardy har when I want to acknowledge that someone is TRYING to be funny even if I don’t personally find it humorous.
And, I do use lol for something just genuinely funny, or LOL if it’s REALLY funny.
hahahaha lmao! that’s hilarious!!
hehehe…alright, that’s fine that’s fine! take your time!
LMAO! are you serious?! LMAO!
okay…alright..lol
I used to refuse to use lol as well, but now I started using it. it broadened the possibilities of my expression of laughter!
LQTM- laughing quietly to myself.
lol is for easing the awkward comments
haha is for lightheartednesslmao is for something that’s actually funny, as is hahahahalmfao is for something actually funny that made you smilelolirl is something that made you laugh out loud..in real life!lulz is for something mocking, as is bahahaha
hehehe!
“hahaha” when I’m being sincere, and “lol.” when I want you to stop talking.
i don’t use LOL either because it feels awkard.
if i’m really laughing, i say hehe or lmao, but usually hehe. i haven’t used LOL in 4 years.
you can use w, or “ww” I use it sometimes typing to Japanese friends because it’s short for warau (笑う) which means “to laugh”
as long as you don’t mind being otaku.
You could also use :DxDXD>D;D
I have never understood the purpose of using “BAhahahahha” because it sounds like it would be obnoxious. So if something is a little bit funny, I use “haha”. If I’m being sarcastic, or if it’s a funny/bad pun, I use “ha ha ha” or simply “hah”. But if something makes me actually laugh out loud and is incredibly hilarious, it’s “hahahahaha” or “HAHAHAHA”.
Don’t sweat it dude, I try to refrain from using “lol” too. And especially “lawl”.
I’m a haha-er.
usually I use: ahahaha or lol.
I say, ha-ha. But I use one ha to imply sarcasm. LOL is when something is just silly or I ran out of things to say.
I use all sorts of ways. Hahaha! Ha! LOL. ROFL. LMAO. ahhhhahahaha! (that looks kinda retarded) Sometimes I’m LMFAO. OR, best of all, if I’m chatting on Windows Live or YIM, there are these two super cute giggly smileys I use. Those are my favs. :p
Oh and 60% of the time or more, when I use any of those, I’m not really laughing at all hahaha! (like now)
I get a new laugh every seven years or so. I haven’t used my current laugh often. I never use it in public so as to not get attention or funny looks
lol, LOL or hehehe if I am feeling saucy and a little perverted. That’s about as creative as it gets for the most part. That isn’t true, but it’s all I can think of right now.
Har! Har! (pirate larfs)
Honestly, #1, 2, 4, or 5.
lulz, heh, and PAHAHAHAHAHAHA if im really bustin’ up.
