How to Increase Comments
I was reading a post by Myxldove and he mentioned several reasons why someone would not comment on a post.
I thought that was an interesting topic but it still left me wondering if there might be a way to increase comments. How do you increase comments on your posts?
Comments (69)
Put NSFW in the title.
How about just copy exactly what you do? You seem to get tons of comments so your obviously doing something right. Lol.
Show titties!
That’s a really good question. I have been wondering the same.
Mention boobs in the post title then people comment with “aww you tricked me with the boobs”… it’s worked for me a few times.
@Shadowrunner81 - bwhahahahaha. good one. caught me!
make a bunch of fake accounts and comment on your own site. it may not increase real comments, but it will increase comments.
Ask people about themselves. People are inherently selfish. People want to talk about themselves and their life, their love, their advice. There’s nothing wrong with it. I am a victim of selfishness at times also. Isn’t that how you do it Dan? How you get so many comments on a three sentence post? You ask people their thoughts? I know this hint and yet I never use it. Because I don’t care about comments very much.
You don’t need to worry about it
HEY EVERYONE! GO READ MY BLOG! AND WHEN YOU’RE DONE GO CHECK OUT MY OTHER BLOG. http://WWW.LIVINGHEALTHY-ER.BLOGSPOT.COM ITS AWESOME. I’M AWESOME! YEAH! *HIGH FIVE* (I really hope that works)
@Shadowrunner81 - That will ensure views, but not comments.
Talk about sex
The questions at the end help, I think.
Maybe having your xanga pic of you shirtless? Nah
It’s kinda like the saying”You can lead a horse to the water but you can’t make him drink” You can get people to your posts in many ways, but getting them to actually comment?Thats a horse of another color.
For instance, the post I have up now I get several looks but few comments.I am always interested to see what someone looks like and how they sound and when I see someone post a Vlog like I have up,I go see it to get a better idea who they are.People just don’t comment as much anymore,I know I don’t.
Depending on the title, some people with dirty minds will drop by and they will leave a comment some of the time. lol!
Put up a link to pretty much any news article (but preferably a hot button issue), a provocative picture, and then ask a loaded, douchebaggy question. Voila!
Dear Dan,
I love this question because I remember one of the first attachments ( I still have) from the old Featured Grownups blogring is an article from you telling how to increase comments and promote your blog on Xanga. You’d only been here about a year too and your blog was already the #1 destination blog.
There are “destination blogs” like yours and regular blogs like mine. I’ve always wanted mine to be a destination blog, but like most bloggers, over time I’ve developed a “readership”.
If I want more comments, I have to socialize, visiting and commenting.
There might be more insidious or grandstanding ways of getting comments I suppose, this being Xanga and all, but I like the old fashioned way, as I say, like writing letters in the “age of paper”. I call it “correspondence” or “comment exchange”.
I’ve got at least a dozen specific blog “sections” and the most “popular” have always been the humorous or parody posts. I can usually assure more comments than usual when posting parody.
In these heady days of Xanga 2.0 it seems a good way of generating more comments is to use the @ a lot.
Or simply to try and stir the pot concerning the major issues of the day.
Ahem. That’s the niche you carved out back in 2005 or so if memory serves.

I promise to keep my clothes on if people come and comment. Threats work.
Say something you know will piss people off, don’t have friends lock or sign in lock, and make a catchy title. Also, keep the blog to as little words as possible because most folks don’t like to really have to think. The best crowd to piss off for a lot of attention is liberals. Which isn’t very difficult. Just watch the responses to this comment!
lol With my old Xanga… I would talk about my sex life or when I wrote something pertaining to my horrible spiraling mood I would get an increase in comments. Oh and there was that one time I posted pictures I was going to submit into a contest…
lol. Honestly I think it just depends on if what the person is writing about feels like it’s really them. It can’t feel forced.
and um.. socialize like some one else up there has said. I think you socialize well.
Simulate warmth and mimic love, act popular, be a buffoon 16 hours a day…be appealing to the non discerning mind..
boobs
Yep, boobies.
Ask questions, duh!
That MyxlDove guy is a hack! I never read any of his posts!
I don’t try anymore. I just post and if people show up, good and if not, then they don’t. I write for me, not for how many comments I can or don’t get.
Just post great content and hope that Xanga will feature it!
commenting on my own posts
talk about controversial issues or subjects.
if any word on your title says sex boobs kiss pics cry
I’m also wondering on how to increase the comments on my post and as well as how to encourage my Xangan friends to blog something. It seems Xanga’s in a dry season these days.
There is only you can not think, no you can not do it.Welcome to http://www.yessoso.com

boobs and fetuses
by talking bad about malaysians like you always do hahaha xD
Post something that pisses people off and they just have to comment to tell you how stupid you are or how much they agree with you!
Have no clue as to how one can increase their viewings let alone get them to comment on a blog. Kind of makes you more private on here though doesn’t it..ie..no one reads so your data is safe
))))
@ShimmerBodyCream - LOL
@MyxlDove - Yea, I wish they’d stop making clones of that guy. . . lol
I think it is mostly content, sure, but also depends on how many people recommend your posting. That way it gets out to more people, if anything to view it. I suppose if it is interesting/provocative/controversial they’ll leave comments. Of course in doing so, making your post public, you run the chances of having these oddballs leaving advertisements. Of course there are pros and cons to that as well, as you can see, five from the same person, adds to your comment count but also people may not want to comment as to not attract people like this. BLOCK AND DELETE is pretty much all you can do, that and not post any “public” material ever EVER again. Wait, you may as well quit Xanga in that case. I just got here myself, I’m not about to quit due to some crazy ad person.
Ooooooh, here’s an idea!
Actually go around and comment on other people’s posts. Make some friends. Then they’re more likely to comment on YOUR posts.
Otherwise, I have no freakin’ clue. Just cause you talk about boobs or controversial topics, doesn’t mean you’re going to end up with lots of comments, just lots of views…
Or, yeah… people seem to like answering questions… lol
threaten to leave/shut down your blog, then some will lurk out of the shadows and tell the insecure blogger, don’t go, we lub u. then they stay and be like, ok
I don’t comment on some blogs because the person seems likely to say, why are u stalkin my blog??? or something whiny if you don’t agree with what they say. then they complain about not getting comments but they scared away commentors by accusing them of being stalkers
if they pretend to play dumb or seem dramatic, then I usually won’t comment.
@MyPublicSite - I’ve recommended your comment – it’s just what I would have said, but you beat me to it and denied me an outlet for my selfishness, dammit! lol!
i have to comment on my own posts, to achieve that…
@P0RCELA1N_D0LL - lol, that will always work, i believe… but it can only be used once… twice at most.. haha
Tag @TheTheologiansCafe mention boobs or write a song in jest and he recs and then I get more views and comments.
How do you increase comments on your posts?
With controversy, plain and simple, take a “hot topic” and write about it. Doesn’t even matter what side you take, but if you are the “monster” like the woman who let her child ride the subway home you can end up on Dr. Phil? Doesn’t matter what I think, wasn’t my kid, but sure many would have opinions on how others should raise their kids, food they should eat or portion control, and list goes on… people are so busy telling others how to live/think/feel
And going against the grain creates more posts… no one cares if you hold their same point of view… not my thing, I look more for personal relationships, and getting to know others… why I post things from my own life so others can get to know me as well… I like to go beyond recycled ideas, recycled jokes others posted but were “cute”, and learn new ways of thinking or seeing things (I could be wrong and not know it until I see it with anothers eyes)
I still, after being on Xanga for about ten years, can’t wrap my head around people blogging for COMMENTS. I blog because I need release. Most of my posts don’t generate any comments because I’m not asking for anyone’s opinion, and mostly I don’t care about anyone’s opinion (unless it’s a real-life friend, a few of which I do have here on Xanga). But the posts to which I get the most comments are when I post about a death of someone close to me.
@mousepotato66 - I know i rushed over here before anyone else could answer that… Phew… Gotta get my word in.
dont care about comments!
You have to ask a question that you know people wanna answer or give a comment on. Like you, Theo. You’re a Black Belt in this area !
Φ ≡
I don’t.
I was wondering the same thing. If being yourself doesn’t work I wouldn’t know what else to do.
I agree with the rest of the group – boobs.
Or, we could all turn into Allah The Troll….
Ha! I’m too cool to get comments on my posts!
@P0RCELA1N_D0LL - Another good reason for lack of comments could be the use of friends lock limiting access. =p
All you need to do, to receive more comments is have extremely shallow content with little meaning so that no one has to feel anything or think too hard about themselves or take too long of a look at life. Do this, and anyone can be a superstar, just like you Dan. (And don’t forget, raunch and nudity will up your views.)
I think the slow and steady way is the best. Comment regularly on blogs that you subscribe to. Update regularly (not once a month – although I’ve been guilty of that) and reply to comments. Once your subscribers slowly build, there’s more of a base of people that will comment. I remember reading about this method from someone else in the good ol’ days of Xanga (it might have been you). Treat the people who you interact with on Xanga with respect.
I just hope people don’t get obsessed with the number of comments, views and getting featured in the front page.
@SoullFire - I put a chastity belt/lock on my page
Sometimes I ask a question at the end of a post to give them something to comment about. Do you like to ask questions?
I don’t get many comments on much that I post, so I have no idea…
Me? I’m a lost cause.
