  • Your Class Ring

My parents offered to get me a Letterman Jacket or a class ring.  I did not want either one.  (This post was inspired by Jordon).

I think in both of my undergraduate degree and graduate degree I was given a free class ring.
I never wore my class ring.
Did you ever wear your class ring?

  • NEVER it comes across as pompous except on old greaser men.

  • Don’t have one. I did buy a coin for where I work. (It is now my designated poker card-protector.)

  • Never had one. I wore my Mom’s though because we had the same ring size.

  • I wear my ring from Texas A&M but getting your Aggie ring is considered a big deal and most students get them.

  • Yes, but mine was very subtle, like this: http://www.jostens.com/rings/galleries/highschool-rings/alt_signature-chante-s56_lg.jpg only it is aquamarine and doesn’t say Laurie.

  • I got a cheap class ring from Wal-Mart for high school. I think I wore it through my first semester of college then tucked it away in my box of old jewellery. I made the smart choice of not getting a college ring four years later.

  • Never got or wore either of the rings. I intended to get a college ring, but it wasn’t the time for me.

  • When I was a junior in high school, my school choir went to Italy. My family didn’t have much money, but I promised my parents I’d work hard at all the fundraisers and give up the senior class trip and my class ring in order to go. Best deal I ever made. I went to New York City, Rome, Florence and Venice. The next year, we moved to a tiny town in Arkansas and the senior class trip was to Kansas City. I was the only one who didn’t go, and the only one who didn’t get a ring and I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything at all. I’ve always thought traditional class rings (which is all that was offered in my day) were ugly anyway.

  • I only had a high school class ring, and I wore it for 2 years; senior high school and freshman year of college.  I earned my letterman jacket (also high school) my freshman year, for earning 15 merits through band.

  • I wear my college class ring.  My finger would feel weird without it.  I didn’t get a letterman jacket in high school even though I qualified because I’m not much of a jacket person.

  • I wear my college class ring from time to time, but now I most often wear my deceased father’s college class ring.

  • nope, finger taken by the engagement and wedding rings :P

  • I only got one in high school and wore it for a short time mostly because everybody did.

  • I actually used to wear my high school one, classically because everybody else was. It was a subtle pretty one. Never bought a college ring, good thing too because I would never wear it.

  • Bought one in high school, then declines in college I think, and then got one in grad school. I think they are pretty worthless. Also, got a free Letterman jacket but you can only wear it for one or two years, cause after high school wearing one is just lame, lol

  • I never got one.  I was homeschooled.

  • Actually, sometimes I do. My high school one, that is. I graduated college but didn’t get a ring.

  • I never got the point of either.

  • I will wear it when I get it. no point in buying something if you never use it.

  • No, I never bought a class ring or letterman jacket. I think I will in college because it will actually mean something.

  • I got a jacket and a bracelet for high school. I got the jacket because I finally felt i could do something better than my brother. He never qualified for one. And because I was getting it in the fall, I knew I would have all winter to wear it. I wore it for a couple of years after high school. After that, personality changed and I invested in a trench coat. Still wear the trench coat.
When I was a senior, Jostens was offering bracelets along with rings. I opted for a bracelet instead because I was involved with so much, and I felt I could put everything I did on there. I would wear it but it broke and I just never got it fixed.

I did get a college ring. I felt it is something I can wear through out my life. I wear it everyday. (even have the tan line) partly because I still attend the school.

  • The reason I got one was so it would hurt more when I hit people. Hasn’t let me down yet

  • Kinda weird that you post this. I was just talking about my high school class ring a few hours ago, saying that if it wasn’t from HS, I’d totally still wear it. I wore mine for years and it was my favorite piece of jewelry. Mine was dainty and had custom bits and my birth stone so it was pretty cool. I graduated just short of 10 years ago though… I think it’d be weird to try rocking’ it now. Still like it.

  • When I graduated college my mom said she would either get me a class ring or a new phone. I picked the phone. Hunk of metal that plays angry birds > hunk of metal that sits on your finger and does nothing.

  • I got one a few weeks ago for my Master’s degree. It’s not huge and bulky, though. Very subtle. And in it are two scriptures to keep me humble; and not let the success go to my head.

  • I use to wear my high school class ring everyday. Then I got engaged and someone told me I shouldn’t wear other rings hahaha. I didn’t know any better so I took it off and haven’t worn it since. Ah well… It didn’t match my pretty sparkly diamond anyways.

  • I didn’t get a class ring, but i wore my boyfriends for awhile.  So dumb looking back.

  • I have my high school class ring, but it is in a box somewhere in the basement.

  • I got a ring…wore it briefly in my senior year but it has been retired to my jewelry box for more than 10 years now.  Hindsight is most definitely 20/20.  I would have never asked for it if I knew that I would never wear it!  I think my biggest mistake was getting it in yellow gold, I really don’t like how it looks on me.  Even now, I only wear silver-toned jewelry.

  • I saved my money and got my yearbook and didn’t have money for a ring

  • i still wear both of mine ( high school and college) even though when I first graduated college I didn’t care about having one but now i’m glad i do. they’re important to me.

  • In my high school, everyone bought a class ring. There was a lot of pressure to get one. I wore mine for a while, but I eventually got tired of it sometime during my freshman year of college when the stone got chipped. I think that I still have it in a box somewhere, but I don’t know where it is.

I never got a class ring for college or grad school. No one that I know did either. I feel like they’re going out of style because I don’t see or hear about anyone getting them anymore unless they belong to some exclusive group.

  • Nope, got my diploma and ran like hell.

  • I wore mine every day, til I left it on a hooker’s nightstand in Thailand back in 1969.

  • I moved out when I was 16 and when I graduated couldn’t afford the class ring.

  • my little sister wore mine to get into R rated movies…she lost it.

  • I never got one!  UGH, that puts me right up there with the home schooled crowd.

  • I really liked my high school class ring, and wore it all the time. I’ll be going to vet school and have a bachelors from the same university, so I plan on getting and wearing a college class ring.

  • I wore my college ring briefly, but then I lost it in a girl one night. I imagine some Gynecologist has it now.

  • now they give you a packet and you choose everything on your class ring, so there not ugly and you can choose how bulky or slender you want the ring, some dont even look like class rings. it makes it a little more worth it, and easier to wear more often.

  • Mine was really pretty and I wore it until it became too tight for me.  Then it was stolen.  I also had a “letterman” sweater, for my music awards.

  • For about a year after I graduated. Then my guy-friend took it and I haven’t seen it since. *shakes fist*

  • Yeah, I wanted one.  I never got one though.

  • I never bought one. It’s not about the money, which I did (my parents willing to get me one). I just didn’t really like them.

  • I have a very nice class ring. I’ve worn it before. I enjoy looking at it from time to time.
But like most nice things I own, I don’t use it.

  • nah, didn’t buy one because my dad said it was a waste of money. It was fun looking at the catalog though. Didn’t get a jacket either because I would never wear it.

However, I did always want to buy lanyards and hoodies with my school’s name on it, but I didn’t want to spend the money. Looking back, I regret it a little. I could always go back and get it. I’m more proud of my high school than my college.

  • I wear mine from high school. Haven’t graduated college yet but I don’t plan in getting a ring when I do.

  • I never had one.

  • I gave my high school class ring to an Indian guru.  He gave it back.

  • This is ironic, and a little depressing, because I lost my class ring the other day. Well, someone swiped it from my purse. $500 ring L O S T

  • No but my kids did and they also lettered and got letter mans jackets.

  • Honestly i’m only getting one so i can show my future kids that i had one, “This is what your mommy did in school.” Idk, maybe it will inspire them?

  • I think I wore my high school ring for like a month when I got it. Never did after that. Didn’t even know where it was for a while. I do wish (ironically) that I had a ring from college. ha.

  • I graduated form Kansa State University in 1968.  We had a choice of men or women’s rings and the womens included ones birth stone.in a very feminine oval gold setting with the name of school  in small letters in gold  around the oval set in black and the year on the upper side of the band part. I have worn it since 1968 on my right hand. The men had one that was’;t so ultra bulky looking too.  The one offered from graduate  was the bulky kind. I didn’tt bother buying it as knew  would not wear it. Schools should pay more attn to what is being offered as one can get a class ring with some ‘class.’ I’ve had many  nice comments on mine over the years. Linda Joy Adams

  • ….Yes and no….wore it for a while, gave it to my ex-wife/former girl friend, got it back, lost it somewhere back in th mists of yester-year…. didn’t like to where jewelry, as I was prone to reach inside electronic and mechanical stuff, alot…. my short-coming, I guess….. Peace
