I hope not, and there is a lot of century left anyway.
I’d be ticked if I got 2 feet of snow.
Twelve years into the century is a little early to be labeling anything the thing of the century.
I hope not.
Sorry, I can’t find my magic 8 ball.
I hope not-hope they are just getting all excited over nothing.
I’m scared. I have gallons of water in my house and if that damn plug didnt undo itself, as well in my bath tub. I live alone and though my boyfriend says he’ll come help if it’s really bad, he lives an hour away in an even worse flood area. My work is even cancelled the next two days SO FAR. We’ll see what happens, man.
Storm of the century only 12 years in?
Hummmm…..Anyways, no it will not, but only to spite weathermen
Usually when there is so much hype it’s wrong. So I hope it won’t be but I’m nervous watching it even from a distance.
There is no need to worry.I have been doing a shit to of push ups, and when Sandy shows her big windy face, she’ll have a 168 pounds of fury, and a fresh bitch slap waiting for her.
Bring it Sandy. I am prepared to unleash hell!!!
@RighteousBruin - “I hope not, and there is a lot of century left anyway.”
SF’s 1906 earthquake was the country’s ’quake of the century, and it happened only 6 years in.
I sure hope not. I’m anticipating it to be worse than Irene, but hopefully no by much.
Yeah, I don’t really know what to expect. I live alone with my doggy. Who I am by all means claiming as my service dog if they evacuate us to higher ground. She is ordered by my doctor and let me tell you what kind of nervous breakdown I will have if you leave her behind in a flood. You’re basically going to have to restrain me. And trust me, it’s just easier to either let me with her, or let me take her. I mean lets just be honest.. I’m crazy. Separating me from my dog makes me do crazy things.
Hope all of you in the storm path are safe! Hurricanes/Cyclones are no jokes. The last time I took a storm as a joke (didn’t go home from work even though everyone else had gone home), Nargis happened. So it’s always better to be prepared.
Not sure, but I am keeping tabs on it.
My husband is in the Coast Guard, and as he says, “complacency kills.” This isn’t hype.
I really hope not but so far i hear people are being evacuated in New York, its gonna get really bad they say :/
Omg too much hype. The weather channel does this all the time. Ever since they warned us about a damn tornado 45 minutes after the fact and the Blizzardgedon of 2010 that they totally downplayed, I don’t trust them. And yes there are mandatory evacuation zones but no one’s really leaving lol. I know people in them and they’re all like “HURRICANE PARTY.” DD So far it’s just windy, not anything I haven’t seen, and I have yet to see a drop of rain.
unfortunately probably
I think in some areas its going to be really bad, in others not so much. I live in CT, near maine, and we’re thankfully only getting some wind and some rain.
@SpAnKyLiCiOuS – I used to think that way, too. Now, as the wife of the one that risks his life to go save those who think it’s fun to ride out a storm “hurricane party” style…well my young kids and I don’t think it’s so cool anymore. In fact, it really pisses me off that someone would risk my husband’s life and potentially leave my children fatherless because they either liked the excitement of the storm or they simply didn’t take the warnings seriously.
Is it still a hurricane? I work 200 miles offshore. Everybody and their brother has every single link to every known hurricane forcast / radar / tracking station available and to some not available to the public. Saw on the news this morning, east coast news forecasting winds in excess of 50 mph in some areas.
For those of you who are not familar with this type of weather, heed the warnings and protect yourself.
For us … winds like that are just another day in the gulf. By the way, for those of you who may be impacted by the storm … we know where you can pick up a bunch of FEMA trailers .. cheap.
HI dear i am Priscilla by name, i read your profile and like to be in contact with you, that is why i drop this note for you, please i we like you to contact me in my privet mail box to enable me send my picture to you,and also tell you more about me thanks i we be waiting for your reply, (bernard_priscilla@yahoo.com)
I’ve lived off the Gulf Coast, where the actual storms hit, my entire life. Every year there’s a new “Storm of the century” and every year we sit back, quietly fill our bathtubs with water, and stock enough food to last approximately a week. Every year we empty the bathtubs and slowly integrate the food into the normal groceries. Every. Year. Storms happen. You get used to them. They’re almost never as bad as the news show. If you’re really worried, get an apartment on the second floor and good renter’s insurance.
I doubt it, but I if I lived in that area, I wouldn’t bet my life on it.
I hope not!! :/
Hurricane Sandy is the 3rd epic doomsday apocalypse storm of the century they’ve predicted now. If the first two didn’t end the world, pretty sure this one won’t. Never ceases to amaze me how much people hype up and freak out over this sort of stuff though – I’m from Long Island and every single time there’s a bad storm predicted, people go absolutely bananas like they’ve never experienced a blizzard or hurricane before.
I hope it isn’t another Ike. That storm seriously disabled Ohio.
she got politics off of the tv. all of impending death and destruction aside, i love her already.
SMH @ lots of the comments. Complacency kills! Stamp it on your forehead. Just because you were safe once upon a time that does NOT mean you will always be happily ever after. At least listen to your local authorities. At minimum. (And thank your first responder and his family when he/she has to come out to save your ungrateful, complacent ass.)
they always get pretty wound up when storms are heading for the northeast. there are just too many people, and most of them need to be told what to do to help themselves. i don’t think it will be so bad if people prepare to take care of themselves and their neighbors.–karen
I’m pretty sure I just saw a cat flying by my window…
Funny how people are saying, “it’s not that bad. Just a little rain.” Well duh, the worst is coming in the middle of the night!!!
@sarahsmurfette - The reason I make light of this “Frankenstorm” is that we’re sick of our mayor and his tendency to over-hype any natural disaster ever since he screwed up during the last giant blizzard of death we had. He screwed up when it really mattered, as did weather reporting services. As I expected, this storm is not going to hit NYC in the worst way possible. I can tell that just by looking at the weather maps. That’s why most people are just taking advantage of the day off from school/work and they’re not panicking. At least most of the people I know and I know a lot of people As for the people who didn’t evacuate, they have their own reasons, not all of them selfish. In all honesty a tornado scares me, not this thing happening outside right now, which is really not as bad as we were told it would be by this point. That said, my family and I didn’t panic but we did take precautions and lock down everything that could go flying. Apparently so did others, because the only things I see flying outside are leaves.
I get the reason as to why you’re upset and pissed off; you’re worried about your hubby. I’ve got a few friends in emergency services on call and I’m concerned for them as well, but they’ve informed me that it’s quiet in their stations, and one’s had a call for something entirely unrelated to this hurricane: a heart attack. So you can’t really blame everyone…just because someone wants to have fun doesn’t mean they didn’t prepare for the storm in advance…. Sorry I got you mad and that you’re stressed out over your husband’s well being.
It is an act of god because he hates christian america. Why isn’t this storm hitting North Korea? Communist China? Iran???
(just a little /sarcasm)
It’s big, but not too strong. Still for those unexperienced, take heed. you’ll get wind & rain but thankfully had days to prepare. That’s the one positive thing about hurricanes as opposed to other forms of horrible weather, the warning. Hopefully you’ve brought in or tied down loose items and cut down any dead tree branches that could potentially fall on your home/shed/trailer. Hopefully you have canned food and are prepared to entertain yourself without electronics the old fashioned way with cards, boardgames, reading or socializing and that you have glowsticks or flashlights to do it by. I too live on the Gulf and have lived through up to Cat4 hurricanes. Yes, they can be scary, but sometimes they serve to bring people together and be grateful for what they have and to take note of what’s truly important. I called my mother in CT today and yes it’s windy and raining, but she’s fine. It’s my grandmothers who are getting worried, but I have faith that they too will be ok. Luckily they aren’t right on the shore and it’s not flat land near sea level like here. Still, I sincerely wish everyone in it’s path the best.
@UnconventionalButterfly - Your comment stumped me. I used to live in CT. It’s not near Maine. It’s near Massachussets. You have to go through that, and either Vermont or New Hampshire still to get to Maine. Anyhow, I wish you, your family and mine (most still up in New England) safety through the storm.
The news always exaggerates these things. That’s because if they down play it and it turns out to be bad, they could be sued.
Besides, any bad weather that hits the north-east is the “worst ever”. Too many cry-babies in those states. Gotta go, it’s almost time for the daily Kansas tornado ride.
Ummm… It looks like it’s turning out to be the storm of the century after all….
Been hearing a bit about it on the news over here – hope it doesn’t turn out to be as bad as they are speculating.
It does look awfully big and strong. They have over-predicted many but this one looks serious.
We have 37 mph winds in Detroit, 43° and no World Series Trophy. Don’t tell me it ain’t bad.
