No more harmful than other forms of escapism that involve stinking and engaging in hilariously bad philosophical maundering.
It’s harmful because it comes from somewhere. Like this. My husband serves in the Coast Guard. Of course I would say it is harmful – Where there are drugs, there are most often drug trades.
Only for your waistline!
Well it’s not exactly healthy, probably wouldn’t do much damage on occasion.
Depends on what you mean by harmful. I have smoked alota weed (not to the surprise of many Xangans). Haven’t in a while cuz it just bugs now but…yea it was harmful. Ate too much. Was a lazy ass. Perhaps f-ed up my lungs. Made me stupider than what I already am. Sometimes it makes ya real annoyed and thinking about shit you would really not like to be thinking about.
But for the most part was real fun most of the time…so that wasn’t harmful. Sex was F-ing great on it. Slept like a baby and no hangover.
Long run…not really. Yin and Yang 2 da T.
Say no to drugs. =/
I don’t think it’s exactly harmful. I’ve smoked it a few times and I wasn’t a fan of it, so I know that for me I’d never want to use it again.
No.
I love weed!
Awesome thing to de-stress
smoking it… duh
It could be argued that it is no more harmful then even social norms such as relationships. In my personal experience it most definitely is harmful for people with specific mental illnesses (my bro is a nutter and only gets more crazy using smoko). I personally LOVE it and it helps me on multiple levels more then anything else I have encountered in my short time on earth. BOO YAA baby
The marijuana itself? no. that stuff is not exactly harmful to you. BUT, I do believe that if you are on it, you are extremely likely to fall into circumstances of which could potentially hurt you. People act stupid while on the stuff, and stupidity WILL cause pain, whether that be physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.
The issue of “harmful” or not to me is really more of a moral/responsibility issue not a physical one. And even more so in countries where there is also a BIG legal question over waste of resources in pursuit of a religious/ethical questions involved…..In my country everyone is still brainwashed by the old “reefer madness” play from the 50s by governments…the laws that makes it so come from the 1964 Poisons Act here in Oz. Retards need to get with modern science and culture rather then basing legal tidings on outdated and antiquated religious based laws. Remember everyone caffeine and headache pills are DRUGS.
No. I don’t think it’s very harmful. It could maybe make you lazy, but you have to understand that there are almost 1000 strains of marijuana plants, each having a different effect on the body. Some make you sleepy, some give you energy, some have no THC at all and are solely for pain relief, some increase your appetite, some decrease your appetite, some can cause paranoia, and some can cure nausea. Plus, not to mention, there are proven studies that it can relieve symptoms of diseases as serious as cancer and has even cured forms of skin cancer. So, my point is, it’s only harmful if you don’t know how to use it.. Of course, this can be said for any substance you put in your body; even food. THC is a form of medicine, and should be treated as such.
Abusing it will be harmful to your health. Depending on the type of job you have, it will be harmful for your career.
@sarahsmurfette - If it wasn’t illegal, it wouldn’t be so dangerous.
I have seen it do more good than harm, so, no. You just have to make sure you trust your source and you don’t get a batch laced with something else.
My dad has degenerative arthritis in his back and he has anxiety. Smoking pot helps his back pain, and it also calms him down. It’s much safer than FDA approved narcotics for pain which are WORSE, and it’s better than FDA approved anti-anxiety meds, which has a side effect of depression and suicidal thoughts, plus other harmful side effects. The worst “side effect” I’ve seen from my dad on weed is short term memory loss. When he was on narcotics (prescribed pain meds), he lost 20 pounds and looked like a twig.
Also, I know someone who has cancer. Weed helps him get his appetite back from nausea, and helps prevent him from throwing up. Without it, he loses 5-6 pounds a week. At his last doctor visit, it was the first time he’s gained weight since being diagnosed. If it helps him be able to eat and helps with his pain, yes, smoke. Also, if you eat concentrated hemp oil, extracted from the plant, I believe, it can cure cancer.
I only have a problem with it if people use it as an escape..all the time. I understand the need to relax and get away from things every once in a while…but when it’s excessive, it’s a problem. Like with anything else like drinking, it means there’s a problem with the person, that they can’t deal with life.
@LSP1 - Their source link for the new study didn’t work.
@crazy2love - The study talks about the smoke being harmful, which is true. Smoke in your lungs, no matter what it is you’re smoking, is not healthy. The benefits of weed completely outweigh that. Its a million times healthier to smoke weed than use any kind of prescription medication. When used responsibly, it’s really the best option for anyone with pain or anxiety. Its the only thing that’s ever worked for me with my insomnia. I really hate that the benefits have yet to be reaped only because it could potentially overtake the pharmaceutical market if made legal nationwide. The drug companies gotta make their money at the expense of people’s well being.
If smoking weed was harmful, I’d be dead.
I know this isn’t about alcohol but I believe alcohol is considerably more dangerous than weed on many levels. I used to smoke a lot of weed, and it was unhealthy because I’d want to eat a huge amount of fast food while high, I’m sure it took a toll on my lungs and I spent a lot of money on it. But unlike alcohol, it doesn’t influence people to get angry/in fights, it doesn’t cause people to drive stupidly (i feel like my most cautious driving ever was while high), it doesn’t kill your liver, it doesn’t give you hangovers, it doesn’t cause you to completely lose yourself and do insane things you would never do sober, and too much won’t cause you to black out and have no recollection of the things you did the night before.
But alcohol is legal and more acceptable here. It’s strange. That being said, I quit smoking two and a half years ago. I rarely drink.
I can say from my own experiences, wees medically has been amazing. Helps reduce bad panic attacks before I pass out or have a seizure, stops puking and diareah, helped me with my eating disorder, helped me not feel so dizzy. I don’t feel stupider or like I lost brain cells, I don’t feel my lungs are not doing so well. I can honestly say in the past I never experienced any bad from weed.
Dear Dan,
It is my humble opinion that 12th graders should not be smoking pot. I didn’t start drinking or smoking pot till I was in college, which is the proper time frame for both pursuits. Although all substances which alter the mind in any way should only be used in moderation. I stopped smoking pot in the early 00s cause it got too expensive, and my dealers either had already gone to jail or stopped dealing. I tried “spice” a couple of years ago (legal at the time) but although the “high” is quite good, and the product was inexpensive, the “high” doesn’t last long, and the potpourii the THC is sprayed on was too harsh. In fact, I think I developed a smoker’s hack from the few months I tried it.We have medicinal marijuana in California, which is legal statewide (still not legal federally, a bit of a mind bender there) but the copay for the doctor isn’t covered by my HMO and my “real” doctor scoffed when I asked him if he wrote prescriptions last year. Any drug or alcohol for that matter, which alters our standard conscious state (whatever that is. I’m bipolar and a bit obsessive compulsive so prolly would have been locked away in an asylum decades ago who knows) is harmful if used in situations where one could cause harm, like on the highway or even in certain social situations. I’ve possibly tried every drug known to man (except heroin, I did draw a line there) during my long wonderful life, and I still have an IQ of over 120 and besides the fact that my mind and memory are deteriorating with age (much less than I proclaim, but I always “prepare” myself for the inevitable), I’m in pretty good health, and still am pretty quick with my mind. Now what were we talking about. Michael F. Nyiri, poet, philosopher, fool
@Lithium98 - That’s kind of what I was thinking…smoke in any capacity isn’t good for your lungs…even smoke from a campfire. And as far as I know, the pros completely outweigh cons such as that.
@sarahsmurfette - Your husband is in the fucking coast guard not a fucking botanist doctor with common sense. Dangerous people will peddle anything deemed illegal here in the U.S. for more money like raw milk made cheese or certain exotic birds. I suppose they’re deadly too? No. Blame your idiot senators who profit on keeping harmless things illegal so the cigarette and pharmacy companies pay them extra which makes a harder job on border patrol trying to fight against insane assholes who lash out on them.
Marijauana is a deadly poison. It may not be your first hit or even your hundredth but if you keep using it eventually you will suffer the same fate as Whitney Houston or Amy Winehouse. What’s worse is the user often harms other people around him or her. Wrestler Chris Benoit murdered his entire family while on a marijuana trip and I wouldn’t be surprised if that guy who shot up the school in Connecticut was high on marijuana.
I was surprized when I first smoked a joint tht nothing terrible happened and it made me question my parents? What else did they say was evil and it wasn’t?but that was back when I was young and found out things for myself.
yes and no. i feel its harmful in that it impairs the judgement and lowers the inhibitions of our teens, who’s impulse controls aren’t fully developed on a straight day. for adults, i don’t feel its that harmful in that respect, and i do believe in the medical benefits.
the stuff stanks. the person might lose their sense of smell and then unleash multiple fart bombs without consideration of those around, because their farts smell better than weed. smokers turn into assholes.
if they want to relax, why not just have orgasms easy, free and doesn’t stink. orgasms feel better than cocaine. weed is a disappointment in comparison.
@Benjamin888 - Way to be respectful of your fellow humankind. By the way, the Coast Guard is not Border Patrol. They’re not even closely related. You know what my husband does on a day to day basis? Search and Rescue.
By the way, Benny, next time you want to make a valid point in an argument, don’t start with insults (it turns people off and shuts down communication, you dickhole).
remember that commercial youve seen a few years back where a dog is disappointed his teenager friend because he is now boring because of some ganja etc. its a load of crap, the furry ones loves it when you’re in an elevated state of mind. and the common misconception about weed is that it makes one lazy, well you aren’t smoking the right shit. if you’re smoking sativa dom strain or a hybrid thats not likely to happen, in fact it makes me wanna work out and hike. my cat can sense that something is different with me when im high on weed, and she loves being near me. climbs on my lab purrs and begs for more kitty massage. it also make you wanna do a lot of good, like going to the local humane society and give the furry ones a lot of love. it makes me want to help my mom with gardening work for hours and they (completely clueless to ganja) loves me when im on it. it makes you wanna eat a ton of junk though if you’re not careful. and obviously you dont’ want to smoke bowl after bowl everyday.
I have friends that have been smoking it for years with no bad effects. it is safer than sigaretts. I’d rather have them smoking weed than cigs anyday. Cannabis is an herb, while I do not believe that smoking it is harmful, I think it is healthier if you take it in pill form (ingest it). I know a great number of herbs that are great when they are eaten, but when they are smoked they do crazy stuff. If we aren’t able to smoke it we should be able to eat it.
I’ve never tried it so I don’t think I can answer that. Anyone want to help me out?
These days most anything you smoke or eat is harmful ~ just sayin
It’s no more harmful than alcohol is.
I guess what’s left to define here is what is considered “harmful”: harmful to the country, or harmful to people.
After living with someone for the majority of my life who abuses it, I will ALWAYS say that it’s harmful. I’ve seen first hand what it could do. Sure, it might be low grade to a lot of other drugs, but that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t have harmful effects of people who abuse it over time.
it’s no worse than alcohol. having done both, i’d choose pot first any day.
Nope, especially if it’s legal in the state you reside.
Medical pot helps so many people with cancer have a quality life for what time they have left.
Here in Washington State we just voted to legalize pot. Have no seen any fall out one way or another yet.
Just like anything else; moderation, moderation, moderation. In my opinion, Alcohol is THE most dangerous and harmful drug on the planet.
i think it is harmful when, after i am not high, i am sad because i did not do the thing i smoked weed in the first place to do, such as reading high or folding clothes, ya know?
Smoking it isn’t exactly great for your lungs; you’re better off vaping it or consuming it via tea or edibles. Other than that, no, though there is a level of psychological dependency that can develop if you smoke too often and some people just react poorly to it. The key phrase like anything else is moderation though it is entirely possible to be blazed all day and still be productive. I have no sympathy though for people who abuse it and spend life high and useless. Cannabis is like anything else; too much of it and it becomes a detriment to your life instead of a positive.
Speaking for myself, I’ve had more issues with caffeine and alcohol than I’ve ever had with cannabis, and the first two are legal substances. I can be perfectly functional and productive while baked if I need to be, but I don’t find being stoned all the time to be either desirable or necessary and so refrain from doing so. Different strains have different effects, but for the most part cannabis relaxes me, mellows me out, and relieves pain better than anything I’ve ever taken or been prescribed. Some strains also stimulate my thought process or intensely focus my attention; I have had negative reactions to certain strains (some sativa varieties tend to make me paranoid and antisocial) however I just simply note down what doesn’t work for me and don’t smoke it again.
Also it’s people in states with strict anti-cannabis laws that have to put themselves at risk by buying weed of unknown origin from a dealer. In my home state of CA, if you’re still buying your weed from the shady guy living down the street, then you’re living in the dinosaur days.
See, I don’t know. I’ve never smoked it, but I’ve talked to people about it who used to smoke it, and they claim it didn’t harm them. I can’t tell them one way or another.
From the very limited research I’ve done on it, it seems that it could be used for so many good things. The actual substance, in certain controlled doses, could be used as a natural pain killer, appetite enhancer, and even ADD/ADHD medicine. The beneficial uses seem to outweigh the “bad”, recreational uses.
I’ve also read that it can stunt your brain development if you start smoking it recreationally early in life. So, that’s bad.
Sorry for the awful, rambling comment…
smoking is harmful, alcohol is harmful, eating carb is harmful… often not as harmful as smoking pot.
it’s good stuff
I smoke weed a lot. Sometimes on weekends Ill just blaze all day, otherwise at least 2 joints/bowls a day. I dont think its harmful at all if you dont overdo it. Ive quit my depression/anxiety medications and life is great. It helps with my insomnia as well. Im studying biology, which is hard. and despite being a total pothead, my grades are fine. Weed is a holy herb.
no, definitely not harmful, helps take the stress away, and the less stress you have the better it is for your health
@P0RCELA1N_D0LL - Hrm, I’ve either had terrible sex partners or really good blow…
I have smoked it. I’m not really a fan… I’d much rather relax with a beer. Both have their negative side effects if you abbuse them but if treated responsibly neither are that bad either. Besides, what is life for if you can’t do many of the things you enjoy just because they may shorten your life? I enjoy a few beverages with friends/family. Many people enjoy smoking weed with friends. These things are the things in life that people look forward to. In my opinion, they are the things that are worth ‘risking’ health issues over as well. But your question- Is it Harmful?
I think weed has got pros and cons just like any other substance that alters your brain function. Pro- it really has some medical advantages (like pain relief, cure for nausea and it helps give sick patients an appetite… etc.) Also, I think that it works well for stress and helps people relax at the end of the day…. even assists in helping people fall asleep.
Con- It can be a slippery slope (as with caffeine or alcohol.) I know many people who smoke regularly. I wouldn’t be concerned with the health effects (smoke inhalation) as much as I am about the lifestyle that seems to go hand-in-hand if abused. I have witnessed many people lose their “drive” for life. Sure, they seem happy… but they sort of…
let themselves go
(much like an alcoholic.) Also, my brother is 22 and just came out of the closet. He has been smoking pot since he was in Jr. High. I always suspected he was using weed to dim down his insecurities with being gay… I asked him about it after he came out (he has since quit smoking weed entirely) and he admitted that “yeah, It was fun and easy and I got to look forward to the next high. I didn’t let myself have time to get upset over how I was feeling.” It made me sad to think he’d be hiding in a proverbial ‘cloud of smoke’ instead of just allowing himself to be himself. He seems so much happier now without it!
It can be very helpful… If treated like a few drinks after work or on the weekends it’s comparable to alcohol in many ways. BUT, as with anything, it can be harmful if abused. *sorry to have been so long-winded…
FOR ALL TO STUDY…. THE WHOLE WORLD HAS BEEN DECEIVED BY LUCIFER/SATAN WHO SINCE EGYPT HAS USED “SUN” WORSHIP AS HIS GREATEST MASK TO HIDE BEHIND. THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT IS THE GREATEST “SUN” SYMBOL IN AMERIKA. IT IS AN OBELISK / MALE PHALLUS ERECT/ TO THE “SUN”. SAME AS IN THE VATICAN COURTYARD??? (BEAST/MOTHER/IMAGE) THE STREET DESIGN OF WASHINGTON, D.C. IS IN A SATANIC PENTAGRAM(INSIDE EVERY PENTAGON IS A PENTAGRAM). THE GREATEST TEMPLE OF WORSHIP EVER CREATED BY MAN WAS KARNAC. THE god WORSHIPED THERE WAS “AMEN-RA. IN GREECE HE WAS AMUN. SO; HOW DO YOU END “YOUR” PRAYERS? PLEASE STUDY THIS AND SHARE IT WITH ALL YOU CAN. TIME IS RUNNING OUT. LORD BLESS, WAYNE
weed may be harmful, but i’ve not had any issues. i smoke a bowl every so often when i’m having sleep troubles. it knocks me out. i don’t get giggly or hungry or paranoid like i did when i got high in my teenaged years. i quite enjoy the way it makes me feel. i sleep through the night, without waking up feeling tired or hungover. but everyone is different- it’s just like with medication. something that works for me may not work for you. i have also smoked when i’ve had migraines. it’s been good for me.

Sure, they seem happy… but they sort of…
let themselves go
(much like an alcoholic.) Also, my brother is 22 and just came out of the closet.
