first! yay. I think it’s funny how everyone has to comment again rejoicing they were first, but here I’m doing it.
What’s wrong with the flu shot? I think I missed something.
no shots.
wow. fourth..
or third?
ok. i’m done.
bla. it’s free in canada but i still don’t like to get it.
cuppycake
Eh..if it’s that important to people..why not
YES!!!
there is no reason for anyone to still be dying of the flu but it still happens and I blame it on our damn country making laws so the end result is we have a vaccine shortage. Dammit!
I don’t like flu shots, and I probably wouldn’t get one, but they’re good for those who need them.
nah
I may not like them but it’s almost necessary. As a severe asthmatic, I have always received flu shots due to most cases of the flu affecting the lungs which could cause bad things to happen (how vague of me).
I haven’t had it, I don’t think… …but I do greatly enjoy getting shots.
Yes!
I got the flu shot last year, and I don’t think I got the flu, so it was pretty effective. I’m not scared of shots, so they’re cool with me.
heck yeah….it not only protects you but everyone around you….
Nah. I’ll be fine.
there has never been a vaccine shortage….a few years ago when they told everyone there was , people were freaking out….but it wasnt true. Thousands of vaccines went to the trash after the season was over…
yes
Leave
I don’t get them – my husband on the other hand doesn’t have a choice.
nothin’ like injecting straight up into kids arms some fine mercury.
yes
i think it’s a good idea. I don’t think i got it though.. who knows? lol
no
who are you?? i have been with xanga a while and you always come up on the xanga front page….
so who are you??
No.
no
From experience, if you get it… good chance you’ll be sick for a few days afterwards… if you don’t take it… good chance you won’t get it at all… then again, some flus do kill…
Nah.
I rarely get the flu so there’s no point.
Nope, but my parents usually get it cause they’re old enough.
yeah
I’m allergic, so no.
Never again.
It is a short term prick and a long term torture. It’s the only way I get the flu.
Nope.
no. working in a hospital setting for the past 7 years i have never had the flu. and have never had the flu shot. it only protects against several strains of influenza. chances of getting a strain that is not protected with the shot are high.
Shots are no fun, and I’m not really worried about getting the flu. If I do, then thats my problem.
Yes if you work with children, or are old. I forget if they recommend the shot for children.
Otherwise, just wash your hands, people!
nah.
no
And, btw, vaccines DO NOT contain mercury anymore. They kinda stopped that while ago.
yeps
No — you get a mild to moderate case of the flu from the shot and it only protects you from certain strains. You can still easily get the flu. Nice try, but try again.
no, it’s better for the immune system that you don’t (probably). The immune system needs experience to get better. I wouldn’t unless I had leukemia or AIDS or something like that.
when it was free, yes. for my kids, yes.
Once a year!
No.
Yes, but I don’t get them. I think they should be mandatory for the weak-immuned, young, and elderly, though.
A “hmm”.
no
naaah
nope.
Yep – I hate having the flu, so I always get it.
I didn’t get it.
I don’t trust anyone, so…no.
Heck no! I hate nedles and I avoid the doctor as much as possible!
no
Old with breathing problems ,yes.Me,no no no .
if the flu is just the cold-like flu, forget the shot.
When I get the shot I get the flu…when I don’t get the shot I don’t get the flu. So, NO, no shot!!!
yes
Um I have needle issues….so hell no!
Yes
i’m fine
No.
Yes. Why not?
Yes…..Trust me people I have been getting them for the past ten years and have had only a mild cold in the winter time.
i almost died from the flu because my family is an indigenous Brazilian tribe in the middle of the rainforest with no contact from the outside world. and no immunities
No POINTY THINGS BAD
No for me at least.
RYC: Yes, it does. I even had a nap on it today.
There always seem to be shortages, so For those who are particularly vulnerable, yes. For those of us who will just be miserable for a few days, no.
I can’t because my mom has cancer, and it’s a live vaccine… she can’t run the risk of getting it from us. However, in most cases, I am a huge supporter of people vaccinating their children especially, and themselves also. We have so much to work with in medicine and health and we should take advantage of it.
No. But then again, I don’t even take tylenol and so forth. When at all possible, I avoide putting drugs into my body. Drugs of any kind.
YES
And um… some of you need to get over being stuck with a needle. One day someone may stick about 20 in your arm, but it will save your life. A little pin prick of pain is worth your life. Trust me.
no…costs too much, and i hardly ever get the flu….
plus shots aren’t fun if you don’t need them
NO!
yep
yea probly..
xX-Nicole-Xx
yeahhh.
i have no idea,
could use some help on my new post, answer the prewrite if you be so kind……..
What could it hurt?
I am young and very healthily, I am not one of those that they recommend get one
Yes, but I have to for nursing clinical anyway
Either way.
I hate them, but apparently they’re a good idear. Whatever you think.
no.
Yes
I have no time whatsoever to get the flu.
-Jacob
RYC: Yeah i think the same……. thanks for the feedback, I realy need feedback when I ask pre-writes, cuz it helps me develop my final post, better and gives me a glimpse of both sides, which is very useful, and I like to know what other people out there think………
for older folks yes but for young people, non!
No way I’m terrified of needles I’d rather risk the flu (knock on wood)
OH GOD NO! ::has phobia of needles::
Nope.
no
RYC: I guess I phrased my question weird but I meant how would you vote regarding the Welcoming thing if you were me, rather than how do you think I should vote.
Maybe
Why not, although they feel alittle more (actually more) then a little pinch, because doctors always say that
Hi Dan,
I’m supposed to because of my diabetes…..but no way….you know how I hate shots…
Candy
Um… no? Of course, I am a HUGE needlephobe, so I might be an eensy bit biased.
I think they are a good idea to get but I didn’t, my Mom does every year. She got the flu about four years ago, it’s the only time in my entire life I’ve seen her take off work.
My Dad had it, but some how he still managed to go to work. In fact, he’s never called in. Haha.
I DEFFIENTLY don’t take after my parents. =D
Yes.
No.
For me, nah
No.
negative – i don’t like shots and i’m not a pussy
yes
no
personal choice?
who the fuck would say no to a flu shot?
oh wait, let me read your comments, I’m sure there’s someone.
*two minutes later*
yep.
Why not?
No! My mother in law had a horrendous reaction to the swine flu shot (ok, if you remember the swine flu, you too are old!) and the flu never bothered anyone but pigs! Let me qualify that with a pretty much didn’t bother anyone.
NOPE!
and I’ve not had the flu in many many years.
*hugs*
Not this year. Not yet, anyway. The one year I got the shot, it turned out not to be effective against the popular strain that was going around.
*sniffleypoop* yes please.
No choice for me. In the hospital it is strongly encouraged that we take it.. Strongly!!
I HAVE NO OPINION ON THIS TOPIC… thank you
You need to write a ost about homeschooling!!! That’s a topic I love discussing!!!
I’ve never gotten the fly shot in my life. I probably never will, even when I make it into the age range where they strongly recommend that you get it.
yes do you own some kind of a cafe??
perferably the theologians cafe??
Yes.
noOoOo
no…
for young kids and the elderly -yes.
for me? i think not…
shots = not fun
just use lotsa hand sanitizer
no.
Yes, why not??
sure.
yes
yes, the risk of alergic reaction is far lower than probability of getting ill from a flu
Hell yeah.
Bleh
not for me!!
No.
You bet your damn bippy!!
not worth it. i don’t mind shots but knowing me i’d get the flu anyways
nope, the flu is good for you body. It gives your body a chance to get all the nasty stuff out of your system.
I really don’t want to get the FLU so I have to say NO WAY!!
i don’t like shots..
No.
I get one in each arm. That way I can’t catch it in the other arm.
Ehhhh, I’m suspicious of the flu shot. Hehe.
~Victoria
I just got three antibiotic shots in three days (VERY painful) so right now i would say….hell no.
No
um only if you’re over 70s years old or have no immunity.
Yes, of course!
Hope
Apparently, your readership isn’t generally aware that we’re long overdue for a flu epidemic… and I’m not talking about avian flu here… just the regular old flu. It kills people, folks. Wake up.
yup.
Yup. Done it both ways. Flu shot is much better.
Yes.
no… But that’s just my fear of needles talking… XD
yes
maybe so? ehhh i dunno.. hey! ima poet! And i didn’t know it!
YES! Finally, a simple question to answer.
definately.. especially if its free.
Yes, I’ve had them for several years.
waste of money
for sure. since i work at the hospital, i get it for free. it is strongly encouraged that healthcare workers get one. if we, the younger population each get one, it helps to protect the older people with compromised immune systems from getting the flu.
yes.
yes
I would rather somone who REALLY needs it (like my mom) to get it. I’ll live.
Uh, yeah. Why the hell not?
No it creates stronger chains of diseases.
yes
No i get sicker when i take them.
No! I have heard that people who get the flu shot come down with the flu. I say no, unless you have major health reasons.
I don’t get them. I know people who do and they get sick anyway. The shot only protects against one strain of flu (the one the scientists think will be the strongest that year) when there are tons of different flu strains. By supressing the different strains it is only going to develop into something stronger and then it will be like another killer flu, like the spanish flu that one time or whatever.
Yeah, um, what? What’s going on with the flu shot? A controversial issue I don’t know about? Whaaa?
yes…
yes!!! i had the flu
Would prefer not for me…but if someone else wants it…sure.
Yes, so that one doesn’t infect one’s “fragile” relatives.
Personally, everytime I get a flu shot, I get the flu. If I don’t get the flu shot, my chances decrease drastically to about 1 in 10…or less maybe as I get older.
I don’t know. I guess so. They made my dad sick, though.
I did once… actually it was this werd nasal syringe thing, which wasn’t that pleasant. But I didn’t get the flu.
So yes… if I bother.
No.
I dont mind shots of any sort at all. I personally do not like to get them because I always get sick after receiving them but that’s because a little strain of flu is injected into your body. I think the very young and the elderly should be required to get one.
No. It doesn’t exactly help.
I’ve never had one in my life. My kids always get one.
NOOOOO.
No
no
What’s wrong with them…
If you are 65 or older — you should get a flu shot.
If you have Medicare Part B — it is free.
ahhh…….the joys of working in a pharmacy! We had over 195 show up last year during the shortage.
No worries this year….no shortages.
No.
Only for those who could have complications due to catching the flu such as infants, the elderly, those with low emune systems ect.
I pretty sure I misspelled emune, but I don’t care. Bwah-ha-ha-ha!
Yes. Previously got the flu almost every season. This year, I got the shot, and I didn’t fall sick at all. And while it’s true that the flu vaccine is formulated by scientist according to what strains they THINK are going to be around that season and they may not always get it right, a little bit of hope of avoiding the lethargy, runny-nose-rubbed-raw and fever, is better than no hope at all.
what have you got to lose?
yes (comes with the territory of being asthmatic)
No. It’s as deceptive as fluoride.
For the elderly -yes
for children- yes
for pregnent wome- yes
for a normal healthy Adult- no
Yes for the elderly and young. I personally don’t get it even though it’s free from work.
NO
Nope. You get sick for a little bit, swallow some medicine, sleep it off and keep on living. It doesn’t seem like a crucial thing to get a shot for. Now polio or something like that….
no
It’s there to help
no, i dont want to weaken my immune system
well do u go outside? if so, yes. if no, your immune system sucks so get one anyways.
nope. honestly, why do we need a vaccine for everything…like the chicken pox? they build character!
No.
Each year, the DoH/CDC/APA/etc. get together and “decide” which strands of the flu virus will be most potent and make the vaccine to cover those few strands. If you contract any variation on those specific strands you will still get the flu even if you’ve been vaccinated.
I suppose if you have AIDS or are extremely old and have no immune system, then the flu shot could be beneficial, but for young, strapping adults like myself, it’s basically useless.
yes.
umm…i don’t have a prob with shots…some ppl need it some don’t i guess
