  • Christian Tattoo

A man opened a Christian Tattoo parlor.

Lower back tattoos are more common among young women.

He is careful to not do any tattoo design that glorifies sin.  That includes “marijuana leaves, profanity, peace signs and homosexuality.”  Here is the link:  Link

Which of the following tattoos are most likely to glorify sin, marijuana leaves, profanity, peace signs or homosexuality?

  • I guess all of them?

  • First !

  • how does a peace sign glorify sin??? isnt’ christianity supposed to be about love, peace, patience… and all those other good things?

  • yeah, i don’t get how a peace sign glorifies sin either…and im personally not against homosexuality. erm…i guess marijuana leaves?

  • profanity and homosexuality

  • I don’t know how the peace sign glorifies sin.  I seem to recall a certain person saying “Blessed are the peacemakers.”…

Oh, yeah.  That was Jesus Christ.

  • I can’t wait to hear someone say something like “ALL tattoos glorify sin”.  Hahaha.

  • All tattoos glorify sin. :)

  • I guess I could have gotten my tats at this shop.  Mine aren’t very offensive or controversial–a butterfly, a “1789″ date, and the initials of my daughter.  Though I wouldn’t want to go to a “Christian-only” ink shop–I’d feel kind of strange.

Has anyone noticed that most Christians only get tattoos of their religion?  I can’t even count how many Star of Davids, Jesus fish, or Trinity symbols my friends have.

Originality, people.  It’s a good thing.

  • well if your going so far as to say a peace sign is sinful… all of them

  • huh…..

    that’s interesting.

    I’d say all the above.

I have a tattoo tho because I’m one of those christians who believes in the laws of liberty we were given. I don’t have anything horrendous…it’s just the disney toon, Stitch, and he’s an angel. wings halo and all. lol.

  • homosexuality…

  • oh, if you look up the meaning of the peace sign, it’s a hippie thing and my parents never liked it either…I can’t remember the history on it but it’s really more the meaning behind the peace sign than the word Peace…two different kinds of peace..if that makes sense. I’ve been up for too long and due for a nap, so sorry if I’m confusing.

  • uhm, what the heck?! a peace sign? :P what does that have to do with anything..

  • I’m curious as to what he would consider a “homosexual” tattoo, beyond the explicit and obvious… rainbows, perhaps?

By my beliefs, I would say D and probably B. I hear Christians say that the peace sign is “an upside-down cross with its arms broken.” Perhaps, but it’s also a Muslim crescent that has been straightened out… and broken in three… and put back together… and put in a circle. Or it’s a really re-arranged Star of David. You get my point. ‘Tis silly.

  • the peace sign is an upside-down broken cross…an anti-Christian symbol

  • Peace signs? What the fuck?
    Haha, profanity…

Anyway. I don’t really know. I don’t agree with many Christian views at all, sooo. I don’t see anything wrong with any of this stuff. Except MAYBE marijuana. I don’t do it, but people I know do and it hasn’t hurt them.

  • All of those except homosexuality.

  • ^Ah, see, thanks kathie17–I knew someone would say it eventually.

In my experience (and I’m stereotyping here), the sort of Christians that really believe the peace sign is an demonic symbol are the sort of Christians that believe it’s not right to get tattoos. So it kinda ends up being a moot point.

  • Peace signs go back to hippie days. The hippies did tons of drugs, which is what this guy is trying to avoid. Drugs are probably still a temptation for him, and it’s wonderful he’s going this far to avoid the temptation.
What’s wrong with Christians getting tattoos that connote Christianity? I know Christians who want different designs than Christian symbols.
    I think it’s great… if I wanted to get a tattoo, I’d go there.

  • Profanity or homosexuality.

  • I want to get a tattoo on my butt that says, “Please Recycle”. Do you think that’ll keep Al Gore happy?

  • Peace signs? How is peace a sin?

  • the weed… gayness second, profanity third… as for peace signs, i do em all the time as a greeting…

  • Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.
    Leviticus 19:28

  • Explanation of the peace sign, from Wikipedia:

This forked symbol was adopted as its badge by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in Britain, and originally, its use was confined to supporters of that organization. It was later generalised to become an icon of the 1960s anti-war movement, and was also adopted by the counterculture of the time. It was designed and completed February 21, 1958 by Gerald Holtom, a commercial designer and artist in Britain…

The symbol itself is a combination of the semaphoric signals for the letters “N” and “D,” standing for Nuclear Disarmament. In semaphore the letter “N” is formed by a person holding two flags in an upside-down “V,” and the letter “D” is formed by holding one flag pointed straight up and the other pointed straight down. These two signals imposed over each other form the shape of the peace symbol…

spurious alternative interpretations [include]… an upside down crucifix with the arms broken downward, suggesting the way that St. Peter was martyred. Others have claimed that the symbol resembles a medieval sign known as “Nero’s Cross” that represents Satanism… Gerald Holtom’s explanation of the genesis of the symbol and his first drawings of it, however, do not support those interpretations. (emphasis mine)

  • Peace sins. If you aren’t at war with your neighbor, you’re far more likely to covet his wife and ass. With war, it’s just hate, not jealousy. S’not like WRATH is a sin. Just read the Old Testament. God couldn’t break his own rules, no WAY!

  • Man, those peace signs. They totally glorify sin. Peace? How dare he even mention that word?

  • i don’t think any of those glorify sin, especially peace signs.

  • not profanity

  • “What’s wrong with Christians getting tattoos that connote Christianity? I know Christians who want different designs than Christian symbols.”

Nothing’s wrong with it, it’s just kind of trite and cliche to get the same 4 symbols or variations of those same 4 symbols.  Or maybe I just appreciate original and interesting tattoos.

  •  kathie17, quoting Leviticus is kind of pointless.  Do you stay in a tent when you’re on your period and then sacrifice a dove when you finish?  Do you think it’s alright for parents to stone their children if they are disrespectful?

Because if not, then don’t quote Leviticus.

  • Peace sins glorify sin?   LOL!

  • Hey bittersunday, why 1789, if I may ask?

  • God views all sin the same.  Yet, there are Christians here commenting that something on the list is worse than the other.  That is hillarious.  And by hillarious I mean, seriously messed up.

And, I would like to know how a peace sign is a symbol of sin.  Because of what it’s associated with, I suppose? (*Was associated with?)  Yet, it’s like the rainbow.  Could be viewed as a sign of God’s promise that a 40-day flood would never come to pass again ooor could scream “Gay Pride.”  A peace sign is what you make of it.

I also want to know why the list is so short.  I particularly like how homosexuality is mentioned, but lying is not, gluttony is not, hate of your parents, having any sort of idol that isn’t Christ, etc etc.  I just, I really don’t get that.

If I had to choose one off the list, I’d say profanity.  Because, Christian or not, it’s just not nice.

  • I know it’s a bit no-no in Jewish religion to get tattoos. I’m not sure if that’s the same thing in Christianity, but the two are related. I know a lot of Christians who yelled at me when I got my tattoos because it was defiling the body God gave me or something like that. But if that’s the case, any kinds of piercings are sinful as well.

  • ummm clearly peace signs…

  • This seems to be a trick question.

  • Yeah, like Kathie17 said, tattoos and piercings are sinful. But Leviticus as a whole is full of crap. xD

  • i say homosexuality because christians go around being nasty, doing the peace sign, and smoking.

homosexuality is the big one…because we all know that loving someone even though u cant help it is such a big ass sin..gah..

  • I’m just going to get a tattoo on my cock that says “my other dick is a porsche”.

  • I also want to know why the list is so short. I particularly like how homosexuality is mentioned, but lying is not, gluttony is not, hate of your parents, having any sort of idol that isn’t Christ, etc etc. I just, I really don’t get that.
Posted 4/28/2007 5:07 PM by xthread

*snort* How would one have tattoo of gluttony? What would that look like?

  • XD Peace Sign? I didn’t know Jesus was pro-war..

Weed is natural, isn’t it? You figure Christianity wouldn’t be as against it.. but it is self-destructive, I suppose..

  • God views all sin the same. Yet, there are Christians here commenting that something on the list is worse than the other. That is hillarious. And by hillarious I mean, seriously messed up.
Posted 4/28/2007 5:07 PM by xthread
the question was “which one is more likely to glorify sin” not “which one is a bigger sin”. God.

  • Since when does a peace sign glorify sin?

And I really am not against homosexuality…

So I guess profanity, then marijuana.

  • How is marijuana sinful? Didn’t God create that plant?

  • A Christian tattoo parlor

  • isn’t a christian tattoo parlor an oxymoron?

i’m pretty sure that it’s common knowledge that Jesus tends to frown upon tats.

  • interesting concept. I’d have to go with profanity.

  • First of all, this guy has some skewed ideas.

Second of all, tattoos are just silly.

Third of all: how in the HELL does a peace sign “glorify sin”?

I guess we shouldn’t listen to the dude who said “blessed are the peacemakers”. Or, wasn’t that JESUS?

  • If you want to be really, the bible is against all pierings and tattoos (lev 19.28).
So, since sin apparently has all measure, they’re all going to hell, including the Christian shop owner.

*LoL* Okay, I’m not completely serious. I think it’s an awesome idea, although I’m not sure what’s up with the peace sign. I’m sure it has some “paegan origin” just like everything else christian.

  • “I <3 FAGS”

  • homosexuality

  • Oh man, tattoos depicting Homosexuality. Right next to the tattoos depicting Heterosexuality. Haha, anyone have the Kama Sutra tattooed on them?

None of those are sins. They are considered morally unacceptable by many, yes, but that doesn’t make it a sin. I thought only God could decide what’s a sin?

  • there’s been a guy in alabama (not sure where) that only does christian symbols. my friend told me about him a long time ago.

  • i’m pretty sure that it’s common knowledge that Jesus tends to frown upon tats.
    Posted 4/28/2007 5:36 PM by StephanieSH928

Huh?  Where’s that in the Gospels?

  • He probably wouldn’t have done the tattoo I had on my ass.

“Never slash your body to mourn the dead, and never get a tattoo. I am the LORD. ~Lev. 19:28″

  • How is toking up, celebrating peace, saying fuck, or kickin it with your best friend a sin?

If it is, fuck you god.

  • I’m afraid you’ll have to verify that you’re 18 or older to see the other cheek – sorry ladies.

  • Christians have a problem with peace?

  • “Second of all, tattoos are just silly.”

    your mom is fuckin silly

  • “*snort* How would one have tattoo of gluttony? What would that look like?”
Posted 4/28/2007 5:15 PM by ChrisRusso

It would probably look like someone’s mom.

  • Hey bittersunday, why 1789, if I may ask?
Posted 4/28/2007 5:02 PM by ChrisRusso

Click.  I think that explains it pretty well.

  • He probably wouldn’t have done the tattoo I had on my ass.

    Had or have?

  • I’ve heard that the peace sign is an upside down, broken up cross.

I’m a Christian, but I’ll stick with my hedonistic tattoo artist because he does quality work. :-

  • “Had or have?”
Posted 4/28/2007 6:22 PM by bittersunday

    Have – should have clarified.

  • Marijuana leaves.  Profanity is so commonplace nowadays that many people forget why it is called profanity, so most people don’t notice that much.  Peace signs aren’t themselves sins (well, I haven’t gone to church in a long time, but as to my knowledge they weren’t), just their suggested relations, and I personally don’t think homosexuality is a sin.  (What would a homosexual tattoo be, anyway? Gay pride?  Anything involving rainbows?  A depiction of same-sex umm…relations… on someone’s body?  If their were depictions of …relations… even between straight people I’d be a little taken back.  Naked people of the same sex as the tattoo recipient?  “I’m sorry, you can’t get a picture of a naked woman on your arm, miss, even if she is from a classic painting.  Oh, sir, you want a naked and vulger picture of a woman?  Well, step right up!”)

  • Profanity.

  • “What would a homosexual tattoo be, anyway? Gay pride?”
Posted 4/28/2007 6:27 PM by EclecticEccentric

Two penises jousting at one another, or some lesbians scissoring.

  • Two jewish men in drag?

  • “I’ve heard that the peace sign is an upside down, broken up cross.”
    Posted 4/28/2007 6:23 PM by Whisper2theWater

Haha, you “heard?” You can break a cross a lot of different ways.

I *heard* that the Jesus fish was actually at one time the pagan symbol of sexuality/fertility, before the Christian’s hijacked it as they did many other pagan symbols.

  • The only thing here that really glorifies sin as we know it from the Bible is honestly homosexuality, and even that’s a bit of a stretch, if you have the same views as I do.

-Drugs and alcohol were never condemned in the Bible
-Peace signs, don’t get why that’s sinful
-Profanity isn’t against the Bible either, only taking the Lord’s name in vain is a sin
(which isn’t even usually considered profanity)
    -David

  • “-Drugs and alcohol were never condemned in the Bible”
Posted 4/28/2007 6:34 PM by Direshark

According to the Bible, your body is a temple, that much was made clear. The overwhelming intolerance to any drug that gets you a high or gives pleasure is just the result of puritanism, something that has stuck with this country since the beginning. Smoking would be considered a sin because you harm your body, but by the same token pigging out on fries from McDonald’s should be considered in the same boat by any *serious* Christian.

  • I’m sorry, did I just read peace signs?  That doesn’t make any sense.

  • “-Profanity isn’t against the Bible either, only taking the Lord’s name in vain is a sin
(which isn’t even usually considered profanity)”

True, but clean speech is emphasized very much. But cleanliness in speech being considered relative to what each person is offended at or feels acceptable is just more evidence that Christian’s have and always will dress up their rights and wrongs as God’s rights and wrongs.

  • “I’m sorry, did I just read peace signs? That doesn’t make any sense.”
    Posted 4/28/2007 6:41 PM by respectably_stranded

Unfortunately peace signs suffer from the same “guilt by association” mentality that brands atheists as being communists, since many communists are notoriously atheist. The negative outlook on the peace sign is no doubt derived from the hippie era of loose easy sex and an overabundance of psychedelic drug use.

  • it seems ironic that a tattoo parlor would declare itself a “christian” tattoo parlor, enough to be against tattooing anything pertaining to peace signs, marijuana, homosexuality, etc etc.

my point is– if its so against those forms of self expression, its completely ironic because according to the bible, God created human bodies as is and didnt even want us wearing clothes, better yet tattooing things permanently. so..this whole concept is just SKEWED.

NOT that im against tattoos, i love them. or homosexuality, peace signs, weed, whatever. i just think that christian tattoo guy has got his own belief mixed up.

  • loose easy sex and an overabundance of psychedelic drug use.
Posted 4/28/2007 6:43 PM by Yohsiph

    pfft count me in!

  • “God created human bodies as is and didnt even want us wearing clothes,”
Posted 4/28/2007 6:45 PM by SunkissedChic

    What a coincidence!

  • Peace signs! Everybody knows war is God’s way.

  • What’s wrong with a peace sign?

  • I love how absolutely nobody reads earlier comments before posting their own.

If they had, all the people posting to say “Peace signs? Why the fuck would God be against peace signs? God’s pro-war?” would at least know the reasoning behind why some Christians think peace signs are anti-Christian. And all the Christians posting to say “Peace signs are broken upside-down crosses” would know that they bought into some meaningless hype and should have done their research.

*sigh* Talk without conversation. Hearing without listening. Words without content. Information without knowledge. No wonder this society is screwed up.

  • (Correction: “absolutely nobody” was an exaggeration falling under poetic license. Some people are having real conversations here, and I respect y’all for that. But the vast majority of posters… Argh.)

  • These New Wave Christians are fucked up. First they have church days where the kids play games. They have children recruit. WTF. It’s brainwashing. Every Chrsitian I know is diviorced, alcoholics, bash other religions and know zip about what they preach. Pathetic. Whoever this guy is, he’s fool! >:O

  • Umm…I can see how most of them would be considered “sin” but why the peace sign? I don’t get it.

  • Peace signs, everyone knows that Jesus would have hated peace.

  • Peace signs glorify sin?

  • Mr. ChrisRusso, some of us like to Gun it and Run it.

  • Isn’t vanity supposed to be a sin, and wouldn’t that forbid all tattoos ? How about promoting a commercial enterprise by means of a pretence to religion? I’d like an extremely hideous Satan “roaring like a lion,” as per the Bible, and I’d like it on my ass.

  • A peace sign was originally the anti nuclear arms sign (the line with the two downward pointing lines inside the circle represents a broken missile.) Don’t get how that’s a sin, being anti war. I guess I’d have to go with profanity or the pot.

  • I see I have expressed myself badly. What I mean to say is that I’d like to have my donkey tattooed.

  • Actually I’d just like to point out that a Christian tattoo parlor is in itself contradictory since tattoos are technically a sin (according to the Old Testament, not sure if that rule was revoked in the Gospels…) because we are meant to return to God just as he made us.

  • Why isn’t a bottle of booze included?

  • Marijuana leaves and profanity.

  • “Why isn’t a bottle of booze included?”
Posted 4/28/2007 7:18 PM by VictimOfScum

    Why isn’t your mom included?

  • Dan, are ya slipping on us?

  • the peace sign, OF COURSE.  god hates nothing more than peace, we all know that…

  • Tats aren’t really “right” anyways. It says in the Bible not to paint your skin. So… the tattoo itself glorifies sin, really.

  • Son, “your mom” jokes are so 1990.

  • I agree with ChrisRusso. Why isn’t anyone reading over some of the previous comments before writing their own?

“If they had, all the people posting to say “Peace signs? Why the fuck would God be against peace signs? God’s pro-war?” would at least know the reasoning behind why some Christians think peace signs are anti-Christian. And all the Christians posting to say “Peace signs are broken upside-down crosses” would know that they bought into some meaningless hype and should have done their research.”

Here are a couple of links about it, if anyone cares to enlighten themselves before looking like a fool.

    http://www.nisbett.com/symbols/peace_sign.htm
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_sign

Or one could even take it upon themselves to research on their own.

  • how does a peace sign…wtf.
    retards >_>
christians trying to be sinful and cool about it without offending jesus /shakes head/

  • I think they should outlaw those nautical stars tattoos first before peace signs or coarse language.  Those tats are just dumb.

  • Ahhhhhh. it’s the TATTOOS! Leviticus 17, I think.

  • peace sings???

I dont know.. i would least like the homosexual the most. I can only assume it would be two guys have sex, which would be a gross tatoo to me. Of course, any tatoo of anyone having sex would be odd ot me as well…. ha ha.

and why anyone would want a profance/curse word tatooed on them is beyond me….!!!???

    Daniel (doubledb)

  • I wonder if you could somehow incorporate all of those “sins” into one huge tattoo.  That would be one hell of an interesting tattoo…

  • well duh, the peace sign.

  • One dude giving another dude head, holding a peace sign, the other smoking mary jane saying fuck. Brilliant.

  • how the hell is peace a sin?

as for the rest, most are debatable among religious points of view. but as for asking which represents sin MOST… well any sin is just as bad as the next, no matter how “big” or “small”

  • all of them pretty much

i can’t wait to get a tatoo. I don’t think getting piercings (i have a lot of those) or tatoos are sinful.

  • Tattoo’s are a great piece of artwork. I am a Christian and a Pastor and I have tatt’s and I think that the Christian world spends too much time trying to create a “Christian” everything. If you want a tat go get one and experience a tattoo parlor. If you can’t sit in a plain old tattoo parlor you should not be getting a tatoo.

  • Oh lord, one look at a peace sign and I shit myself.

  • peace signs. lol.

  • ok in order from worst to least worst. homo, mary jane, #^%#_*%, and peace sign????? i didn’t get why peace sign was symbolic of sin.

  • And as for tatoo’s being forbidden in the Old Testament, the verse you are looking for is Leviticus 19:28. The problem there is that verse 27 says you should not shape your hair or trim you beard. So if tattoo’s are wrong so are haircuts and beard trims.

  • i don’t really get whats “christian” about it…not non-christian things doesn’t they’re mean christian.

  • I thought tatoos themselves were supposedly sins?

  • What in the world is wrong with peace signs? I’m a strong Christian, and I have a peace sign necklace that I wear a lot!

I guess I would say profanity..

  • How in the world does the idea of PEACE glorify SIN?

The world has gone mad, I tell you.

    Absolutely MAD.

  • hahahahaha…..oh brother!!  I’m not about to judge someone for any tattoo…..

    Candy

  • I’m not one to speak (though I am the voice of experience…to say the least) about abstinence when it comes to getting a tattoo, however, I believe that calling a tattoo parlor “Christian” or a certain type of tattoo being “Christian” is the epitome of the Bible verse that says that people will someday call evil good, and good evil. If you want to get one, get one, but don’t try  to justify your GUILT by claiming something- that’s clearly against Christ’s teachings- “Christian!” Please! Have some balls, and just say you’re doing it for your own selfish reasons, and stop the pretense!!!

  • How is a peace sign glorifying sin? Since when is peace bad?

  • “Son, “your mom” jokes are so 1990.”
    Posted 4/28/2007 7:29 PM by fCuk0nc0caIn3

    Your mom was 1990.

  • i dont get how peace signs would glorify sin.

  • how does a peace sign glorify sin??? isnt’ christianity supposed to be about love, peace, patience… and all those other good things?
    Posted 4/28/2007 4:25 PM by abbaschild86

    I concur. o_O

  • Leviticus 19:28.

  • i dont see how the peace is satanic or sinful really—

i heard that the peace sign is an upside down cross (perhaps it’s just the sign of the cross of christ drooping in despair)and was originally the runic sign of death(or destruction). the symbol was eventually adopted by the anti-war movement in the sixties, some Christians called it satanic, saying it was the Witch’s Foot, or Crow’s Foot or Chicken’s Foot, or the broken cross.

  • well i guess the leaves. but a peace sign? right- because the whole world needs to go to war. that is EXACTLY what God wants.

  • I have no comment

  • The peace sign symbolizes sin because hippies (who made the peace sign) were all druggies.

Personally, I think homosexuality is the worst, because in the Bible it says that man and woman are ment to be together, and that is the only way. The Bible cusses, so that CAN’T be a sin, except perhaps the ‘f’ word, all the other profane words are just……mean words.

Drugs, the Bible does not specifically call a sin, but they did not exist at the time and I believe it is a sin cuz adicts put drugs above God, so I think those are second worst.

The peace sign cuz peace is good, but again, drugs bad.

Then profanity because I don’t really find those words bad. In the King James version of the Bible there’s a verse that says “[someone (I forget who)] took on the job of an ass.”

  • how are peace signs related to sin?

  • And I also find ‘Christian Tattoos” a HUGE oxymoron (sp?) cuz that’s defacing your body which is one of God’s temples.

  • I was wondering what a majority of the other people are wondering … How does a peace sign glorify sin?

But other than that, I think that’s pretty cool. :]

  • I’m sorry, but, peace signs?  What the heck?

  • I don’t even want to know how you can have a tattoo that ‘glorifies’ homosexuality. That just doesn’t make sense to me…

  • peace signs????? what the fuck!? war is more a sin than peace.

  • None of those are sins.

  • that is the stupidest thing ever.

  • seriously i cannot even get over it.

  • Wildstream- “Ass” means donkey in that sense. And yes, there were drugs back then. They simply went by different names.

  • Wildstream–is “ass” profane in Hebrew? Please do remember that you’re reading in translation.

  • your mom is fuckin silly
Posted 4/28/2007 6:18 PM by Yohsiph

Yo’ mama. My mom is off limits to barbs on Xanga, even sarcastic ones. Not funny. Got it?

  • Considering there’s a verse in the bible,I believe it’s in Leviticus that states any body modification as being a sin..I say he just opened up a whole new line of hypocrites.

    See you all in hell.

  • “The peace sign symbolizes sin because hippies (who made the peace sign) were all druggies.”

Oh yay!  Generalizations and wide stereotypes are SO much easier to establish than actual rational thought!

My parents were hippies, btw.  And neither of them did drugs.  And now they’re missionaries.  So you can take your assumptions and stereotypes and shove it.  = )

  • how do peace signs promote sin?

  • haha, I didn’t even realize it said peace signs at first

  • Bittersunday and jimmyjazz86 are both entirely correct in their argument that I have nothing else to say. They say it perfect.

SIN, SIN, SIN! I gotta ask, when do we actually get a pat on the back for getting something right?

    ’nuff said….

  • christian tats??? that’s one of the biggest oxymorons i’ve seen in awhile.  our bodies are not to be defiled in anyway because they are a part of the temple of God.

OH,,,here is another oxymoron for ya’ll…in Tulsa there is a church called the Christian Science Church. Basically Christian Scientology

  • peace signs? wtf mate!

  • that is weird it’s a christian tattoo parlor…”your body is a temple” and all that…but i think homosexuality is the worst…then profanity…then weed…it doesnt say anything about drugs in the bible…plus, jesus drank…he wasn’t a drunk, but you can smoke pot without being a pothead…but whats up with peace sins? PLEASE EXPLAIN!

  • There is a urban myth about the Peace symbol being a broken cross. An anti-Christ symbol. it is not true, the peace symbol was created as a symbol for nuclear disarmament. The semaphore position for an N and a D create the center of the peace symbol and that is were the creator of the symbol came up with it.

  • All of the ABOVE.Sin is sin!!! They are all terrible. I think a better question is, “is getting a tattoo a sin?”. I mean the Old Testament strictly forbids it and the New Testament teaches believers that there body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. So you could make the case that Tattoos themselves are sinful.

  • dang whatever happened to the original symbols of sin-upside down cross-666-geez it is all confusing now-damn technology.

    chuckling

  • Profanity, then the drugs

  • And as for tatoo’s being forbidden in the Old Testament, the verse you are looking for is Leviticus 19:28. The problem there is that verse 27 says you should not shape your hair or trim you beard. So if tattoo’s are wrong so are haircuts and beard trims.

THANK YOU! haha Finally someone gets it. Ceremonial laws=gone, byebye. Moral laws[ten commandments minus anything Jesus abolished {sabbath}]=still here. Also, it’s good to see Yohsiph is back in his element again. As far as our bodies being a temple I’m happy to say that I’ve come to save the theology from people taking things out of context. This particular bit is titled “SEXUAL IMMORALITY”

1 Corinthians 6:12″Everything is permissible for me”—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13″Food for the stomach and the stomach for food”—but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”17But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.

18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

So you see when Paul was writing this letter to the church in Corinth he wasn’t saying “don’t get tattoos because that’s like putting graffiti on the Ark of the Covenant!” He was saying “The holy spirit dwells inside a believer’s body, therefore don’t take the Holy Spirit-filled body into a sinful sexual encounter.” I personally don’t have any tattoos, but I don’t think there’s substantial evidence to say that you can’t be a Christian and have a tatto. Nor is there evidence that you can’t have a Christian tattoo parlor.

  • haha not tatto, tattoo

    oo!

  • And what exactly is the standard by which you determin sin? If you take sin as anything that is outside of the character of God, the only one of the above that is named would be homosexuality. As for the peace sign, that is a culturally determined symbol, and the marijuana? Really, how many people actually know what that looks like? Especialy among Christians! When in doubt, at least attempt NOT to get something that would “cause a brother to stumble”. I would love to get a tat myself, but nowhere that others can see (laughs to self). The point? Well, that’s territory only one person is allowed to explore!

  • I guess all of them. who knows? Some would say the tattoo itself is an abomination!
    oh well

  • Peace is most certainly the antithesis of sin, marijuana is a creation of god and god designed it to have the effects that it has on people and they don’t seem to be completely adverse effects so we can assume it isn’t that great of a sin, profantiy outside of cursing is just vulgar, not sinful as it isn’t commanding or abusing the name of god, and as Leviticus 17 only applies to people who adhere to the Law as Jews or inhabitants of Judea it is out too. Ummm… i have to say that probably profanity makes the top of the list by the nature of its typical link to anger, and homosexuality only to Jewish customers and/or those living in Israel.

  • Oh, btw dan, I have been thinking that you should edit (or get someone to do this) your profile pic to having your guy smoking a hookah instead of a pipe. He would look much more sophisticated and exotic that way.

  • well all sins are equal… the tattoo would glorify them the same…
the tattoo also being a sin according to the Bible…

  • DUDE That’s kind of cool seriously…

But it does contradict the Bible…Your not really suppose to have a tattoo, (I need to find it)

but all in all, it’s just another sin…

    I still want one ¢¾

  • “Really, how many people actually know what that looks like? Especialy among Christians! “

     ChocolateCoffeeBeans

Um, hey Dude a LOT of Christians know what Marijuana plants look like….Sorry to inform you on this, but not all Christians are Nuns & Monks, (That’s actually Catholic)

A bunch of “normal” people….can be Christians, including smokers, alcoholic, and druggies…

Just cuz your a Christian (If your a true Christian you probably refrain from doing something that hurts you, like drugs and alcohol…) But there are Christians who smoke. & There stil Christians, you don’t get banned from Church or something if you sin….You just make a mistake, were all humans.

  • If i opened a tattoo shop, I wouldn’t tattoo those anyway… why? simply because they are tacky and lame… I’d just say “Get out and get fsome creativity!” and point towards the door.

  • I love how everyone stereotypes “Christians” all into one big group thinking that all Christians are the same.  You are considered a Christian if you beleive in Christ.  How you choose to follow that is different for each person.  Some Christians beleive but continue to live life for themselves.  Some Christians condemn everyone else but still live their own lives the way the want.  Some Christians try to do “right” all the time.  I am a Christian who tries to do “right” all the time…but fails constantly.  I do not condemn others for their failures either.  Okay…that was  a huge rant….but I get tired of people assuming that all Christians are alike and are all just about telling people what not to do.

If you think tattoos are okay and you are alright with that then fine.  I have a tattoo and no it isn’t a “Jesus” one.  It is symbolic of my husband and children.  I am not really sure that a Christian can say that any one tattoo is better than another.  Technically I guess tattoos could be sin…..because you are to consider your body a temple.  I think some people start up Christian businesses to get business from other people who want to be “nice”.

I think I rambled a lot.  Sorry.  Have a great day.

  • Each of the stated concepts undermine the individual’s devotion and obedience to God and are therefore a promotion of sin.  Promoting drug use, for the sole purpose of drug use alone, is avarice.  The use of profanity is vanity.  It serves no purpose in communication other than the self gratification of the dysfunctional speaker.  Peace symbols are derived from the inverted, broken cross, used in the performance of satanic ritual.  This is simply a matter of committing oneself to the master of sin (whose mark will you bear?)  Does anyone beyond the age of two years really question that deviant sexual behavior is a sin?

  • Most psychologists agree that tatoos are an outward manisfestation of inward scars.

  • Ha!  I love reading comments on questions like these.

    These are all funny.

  • 1. Didn’t Jesus say, “I come not to bring peace but a sword”? (Matthew 10:34)

    2. And didn’t Jerry Falwell say, “Blow them all away, in the name of the Lord”? ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGOTUG16REE )

I don’t know where you guys got the idea that Christianity = Peace. Come on. “Make love not war?” That’s pro-sex, godless, crap if I’ve ever heard it.

    /turns off sarcasm now

Yeah….peace signs as evil? I thought we got past that one after the 80′s when the beat of rock music was thought to summon demons.

  • none of the above…

  • Who would want to glorify peace? Certainly to promote peace and harmony is genuinely sinful.

  • Don’t worry about not getting sinful tattoos because everyone’s going to hell anyway.

  • why do u wanna get a christian tattoo?

  • This makes me want to hurt someone.

The art of tattooing is about the person getting tattooed, not about the tattoo artist. It’s their body; their canvas — quit trying to advertise your lifestyle choice through OTHER people’s bodies. You want tattoos to illustrate Christian ideals? Great, go for it. Get crosses and doves and Jesus tattooed all over you; you’re the one who’s wearing it for the rest of your life. But who the hell are you to tell people, “Oh, I’m not going to take the job tattooing that on you because I disagree with it.” Fuck you, man. Why did you become a tattoo artist in the first place?

It goes the other way too. I’m ‘edge, and I got the XXX tattooed on my shoulder by a a guy who had heroin needles and marijuana leaves tattooed all over his arm. Understand?

Pfft. Whatever. This guy is going to go out of business really quick if he doesn’t change his attitude.

Oh, and if he thinks peace signs promote “sin,” that just illustrates his stubborn closed mindedness to an even more ridiculous level.

  • haha, i like what bmomof4 wrote – especially the “different” christians part

  • homosexuality

i don’t really get what’s wrong with peace signs..

  • what if a female Christian customer asks to get a Jesus tatoo on her lower back? (where most tats for females reside today)?

  • i think wich this is my opinon that if GOD wanted us to have a marking on are body he would put it there BUT i certenly know that a christian tatoo is way bedder than an eViL tatoo

  • Profanity is more of a freedom of speech issue than  a religious one. Except for G.D. a case can be made that each of the other words are not profanity or is based on the belief of the people making the statement. For example, the “N” word is said to be”profanity if anyone outside of the black race says it, but to them, they call themselves that all the time. What if a Christian rapper(and there are some people who claim to be that) wanted a tat that said that0_o. It might happen.About Marijuana . I don’t use it myself, but God made all plants and all things can be used for “good and bad”.As for “homosexuality” there are probly some”secret” signs he will probly end up tatooing that he wouldn’t know was a “homosexual” image and as for a peace sign, I see no sin in that, its just an image. Tatooing itself could be considered a sin if you follow the bible because some if the verses tell us not to make”graven images” or to do as the heathen do(which included tatooing)So in other words, one tatoo is as sinful as another;)(lol) It all depends on what you believe(I don’t like some peoples tatoos, but I wouldn’t take away their freedom to express themselves. My daughter even has a dragon tatooon her leg.)

  • ROFL

I read “peace sign” and I literally cracked up

If Christianity thinks peace is a sin, WHAT Jesus are they thinking of?

  • None. I believe the Bible says not to mark your body, and your body is a temple to God. Are you going to mark it up, then as the years go by make that tattoo look very..er…trashy? And it just looks bad on my oppinion.

  • Leviticus 19:28,

Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

tattoos are against the bible. This man is going to hell just like the gays are going to hell.

  • Give peace a chance!

And this: “i think wich this is my opinon that if GOD wanted us to have a marking on are body he would put it there BUT i certenly know that a christian tatoo is way bedder than an eViL tatoo”

LOL I don’t think you’re even joking and that makes it all the more hilarious. Also: learn how to spell.

  • “tattoos are against the bible. This man is going to hell just like the gays are going to hell.”

    Lizzie-

Yeah, I’m sure you’ve followed everything in leviticus.

Also, I thought Christians were judged by weather or not they believed in Christ, not their actions. I guess you’ve never sinned, huh?

Just remember that bible verse next time you put on makeup or get your hand stamped at a concert. YE SHALL NOT PRINT ANY MARKS UPON YOU!

    Fucking ridiculous hypocricy.

    Makes me sick.

  • Tattoos are a sin.

  • ummm none of them?  all ridiculous

  • I’d say marijuana leaves and profanity at the top.

  • *sarcasm* sin = peace signs… definitly.. silly christians

  • homosexuality is the worst because that goes directly gainst what god planned marrige to be like, thats why he made 2 different humans because they were meant to go together if they werent then he would have made only onw type of human weither it be man or woman i dont know but what i do know is that it is def. the worst of them all.

  • Lol I’m a Christian – and there is nothing wrong with the peace sign…

Though maybe they thought it’s a symbol that represented the kind of love where people smoke pot and have sex with whoever they want…

  • The peace sign is not a sin!

  • I would say homosexuality. I know nothing about peace signs and profanity and weed being ‘bad’ in the Christian faith. I think it’s more about his personal morals.

  • I do not believe that Christians should get tattoos.
After all the bible tells us not to put tattoo marks on ourselves.
I am not saying that God will condemn you if you have a tattoo.
But I do not believe that is right for Christians to have them.

  • So when was homosexuality a sin?

  • Doesn’t the Bible say something about not branding youself? Therefore all tattoos are sinful..

  • ….would have to be the homo part….  …. it’s the the only proscribed part, as I understand it….   …. ‘da peace sign ain’t wrong, just misconstrued…. …. hooch is natural, ‘n….  profanity is just a dummy showing their ignorance and idiocy at not respecting the sensibilities of other’n themselves, pricks! ….  ’nuff said….

    Peace or else

  • Homosexuality DOES NOT glorify sin. Though it doesn’t shock me, it deepens my dislike of Christians a little more. This guy is entitled to do what he wants, but I’m tempted to go get my pride tattoo done by him. He won’t do it, but I’ll pitch a fit to piss him off. Where is this place? and just where exactly in history is a peace symbol anti-Christian?
Oh, I guess the part where the Christians got along with the gays.

  • Oh, and while we’re quoting Leviticus, I should mention that the cotton/poly blend shirt on your back will send you straight to hell.
    Seriously. Go read it.

  • “Christian Tattoo”

    An oxymoron.

In my opinion, it’s just a marketing scheme to make people feel better about marking there body.

  • Peace signs are the devils work.

  • Peace sign got to do with the Antichrist and the Newage beliefs.

  • Peace. Antichrist.
I do not make this connection.

  • *jesus strolls into tatoo parlor* yo bill, let me get two tatoos. one on my chest that says I hate fags and one on my arm that says accept me or die.

  • tattoo itself is a sin.
