Trick or Treat
If the dad takes the children trick or treating, should he automatically get 10% of the candy they receive?

The greedy bastard should, I say.
sure
Totally man. Big brothers got a shaer too.
The “Tax Man” (my dad) always got Smarties or other candies of his choosing.
what about Mom? I don’t get any?
Actually parents get to apply the candy tax, whenever they want……
15% + any candy the kids don’t like.
You should dress up yourself and get your own candy while taking them trick-or-treating! Much more fun.
Actually, Dad gets all the crap the kids don’t want anyway. He also gets the stuff that’s bad for the kids too. My kid have braces on their teeth, so I confiscate anything with Caramel in it.
I don’t think it matters much, not that my opinion does matter much, well, im no father, thats for sure.
Dad gets to pick out his favorites – Mom too. The best way to do it is to tell them you have to “inspect” the candy for signs of tampering.
No, way! He can get his own candy!
10%? Tell those kids they are lucky my dad taxed us more than that
I don’t know. There is no exact percentage. When I was a kid I give what ever he wants but then again he doesn’t like candy that much.
Parents always get into their kids’ Halloween candy when their kids aren’t looking. Admit it parents… we all have done it… I know I have!
no thats stupid
That is exactly why I always ditched my Dad when we were trick-or-treating.
Haha, Dan, no. Sorry.
btw… Blessed Samhain and Happy Halloween everyone!
just stick out your pillowcase & see if people fill it!
Happy Halloween!
Only if they established this in the first place.
But hell! Dad can do whatever he damn well pleases!
Yes, he should. Are your kids being selfish, Dan?
LOL…oh yes, you are the head of the household and you can do whatever you wanna do with the candies.
Actually, the rate should be 30% for a standard protection fee.
no way thats ridiculous..
he should get 20 % of it and the 30 % for the mom.
It is called the Parental Tithe and it is, by all means, appropriate!
You already knew the answer. You just wanted to see what we would say. Dads are dads. They get whatever they want. If they didn’t? They didn’t really want it.
he could have more than ten if you ask me
Yeah I’d think so.
i’m only saying yes because I know you’re not-so-secretly asking about yourself
Hehehe…didn’t you ask this same question last year?
You should dress up and take some funny pictures. I’ll give you candy for that XD
Yeah. All the ones with coconut. And the taffy-break-your-teeth ones. It’s fun to watch with those.
No way. What kind of father would take away his kid’s candy?!
Dan….
Yeah, sure. My dad always took us trick or treating and would take whatever he wanted. My mom would too, but she only took the stuff she knew I didn’t like.
um, i believe the first 10% of one’s earnings should go to tithing. dad can have the second 10%.
lol…only if he has a cool costume. =]
i actually remember you asking this question last year. that means i’ve subscribed to you over a year? wow.
yes
Why? Mom and dad should set a good example and (1) don’t eat any of the junk themselves, unless they are very sparing about it, and (2)set rules for their kids to only eat a small amount at a time, if any. Sugar is so bad, I wonder if holloween is the real reason a lot of kids get colds and flu this time of year?
No, Dan, you shouldn’t.
Not if he ever wants to beat his tall son in a race around the park… hmmm….
No. He should get 42%
Just 10%?
I would require more than that my friend.
if you enjoy being a fat blob, suit yourself.
Yeah Dan, you can have some of the loot. But only the candy your kids don’t like. LOL
at least 10%… How about let the kids pick their 5 favorite things, then you get 5 of whatever you want, then they get the leftovers from that, and you get the leftovers from their second leftovers… hmm, its much less complicated when put into action
Um, no. Definitely not. Sorry, Dan.
-Guru on the Hill
Dan!
:] As one of the younger people, I’m going to say no.
Just because I consider myself a kid. Hahaha.
35%
Dad gets to have beers with the other Dads along the way.
15%
I think dads should for sure! Besides, who eats all that candy anyway? When I was little my mom used to put it into this tin container thing, and we’d have Halloween candy still left over at Easter. Ick.
I let my parents have anything they wanted minus Sweetarts, but as long as they told me that they took some.
Nah, Teach your kids how to share everything.. I mean EVERYTHING!! So it don’t matter how many percents 10%, 30%, 50% 85% of their candy as long they share.. They gotta learn to share not to be so greedy spoiled brats..
no, he should only get the candy the kids don’t like.
No! Go get your own candy!
not ten percent of the total, just ten percent of the candies he actually wants
HA HA HA
?
Daniel (doubledb)
as a kid I thought “no way!”… but as a parent i think “yes”.
Hahaha, no! My dad tried to eat our candy anyway and he never took us. It was always my mom.
I would say at least 25%!
YES! AT LEAST!
yes Dan, you should get some of the candy.
lol This is hilarious.
Is there a fee now for process and handling now on Halloween? Well I believe their candy is his candy…..
YES!!!
Well, I never had to do anything like that since my dad doesn’t eat candy, but it sounds logical.
Not unless he wears a costume too.
Which might be disturbing.
So, no. Sorry, Dan.
My dad always thought so XD
He actually should get a beer per block
My dad used to do that.
Dad’s totally deserve a percentage.
Absolutely – especially all the chocolate possible!
I say the 10% should only apply to the candy the kids don’t want. Not the good stuff like snickers and smarties. Ahh Smarties…. What a throw-back.
mother’s get 25% cut and dads get what no one else likes.
No dan, no candy for you.
Dan, you crack me up.
ah, it’s the kid’s candy, let them have it.
no. if he wants candy, he can go trick or treating himself. =]
The father should know by now that if you go to the right houses they will give you your own candy or special homemade treat.
I thought that was where the “Candy Inspector” job is for, lol.
Good rule.
I think he’s big enough to go to the store tomorrow and get the kind he likes especially since it should be on sale
NOPE!
Candy would be TOTALLY mine.
All mine.
MINE MINE MINE.
Heck yeah!
10 percent to the dad, 20 percent to the wife who lets you have the blessed opportunity to take them, and the rest to the kids.
yep, and if the mom takes them %15.
depends on if he’s diabetic or not.
hey dan, long time no see.
of course ! they won’t miss it after they go to bed .
sure, but trick-or-treating is stupid anyway, so imo it shouldn’t even happen. I just like the after halloween candy sales. lol
It’s fun to hear that other Moms or Dads have “candy tax”!! And I thought I made it up!! I just ask for a few things for spending the gas to take them into town–not a certain percent, and I’m pretty easy. I don’t take their favorites!
Also, my kids have a big trading/auction type thing and bargain with each other. It’s pretty funny to find out what they are willing to trade for what! It also seems to make them hold on to it a bit longer and not gobble it all at once. Then some of it comes in handy for making a ginger bread house in December without having to buy a bunch of candy.
hahahaha. you should get it all.
and share with mom.
and the child gets whatever you give em.
Are you talking about yourself?! Hahaha.
The worker is due his keep.
(in other words….oh yeah!!)
HAHAHAHA! yes…it’s all about symbiotic relationships.
Absolutely
hahahah.
That comment where the guy said Big Brother gets a share is cute. heheh
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Sure they (moms & dads) should – in fact… all those with the loose wrappers… hehehe – those are ours. Gee, there sure are a lot of those this year
Well we did not have a 10% rule, but Mom and Dad got to take a few pieces, even some of the good stuff.
absolutely! We call that “Mom tax” at my house… at least 10%. This tax also applies to french fries and ice cream.
Haha! I think parents should teach their kids from a very young age to be a cheerful giver and to share. That way they will offer their dad candy on Halloween!
NO!!! It’s a day for the kids. He had his chance and nobody took it from him. Why are we here to impose upon our kid’s harmless fun?
…After all he the has the option of going out the next day and sweeping up the post-holiday supply for cheap.
…I say hands off!
oh please u know he steals the candy
at the very least…
My wife gets all the Snickers. That’s her only rule.
Nah, adults should refrain from sweet stuff. Blood pressure and sugar levels….
Of course!
Man, Parents are both totally entitled to a little dipping. I rifle through the baskets after they go to bed and take the quality chocolates. They don’t appreciate it properly anyways. They’re much happier when eating gum eyeballs and creepy halloweenish candies anyways.
Hey, it’s a parents duty to make sure their kids don’t eat too much candy. – I take that responsiblity serious & eat the candy. lol
Sounds fair.
haha, so did you end up getting 10% of the candy?
I figure he could eat what ever kind of candy the kids don’t like.
So that could be even more than 10%. Years ago my older kids didnot like the chocolare candy with Peanuts in it. So I got to eat all the Snickers or Peanutbrittle..
The kids won’t miss it.
We used to call it the King’s Tax. Now that I’m older and wiser, my that was arrogant!
No, the old dog already had his day. =P
HELL NO
i don’t know about automatically getting a percentage, but i’m sure once you’re going through the candy if there’s one or two that you would enjoy, why not? i’m sure most kids get way more than they should be eating anyways. back in the day, we didn’t “have” to give our parents any candy, but we liked sharing with them anyways. it’s much nicer than a dad (or mom) demanding to have a cut.
What a pig. The father can buy his own damn candy.
Don’t say 10%. . .just say,
“You know, next year I might not be up for taking you trick-or-treating. . .I mean I find it depressing. . .seeing you go door to door getting all that candy and me nothing
[put on pity face till they toss candy at you]
One year for my birthday (this was when I was in 4th grade) when I hit the pinata it broke (that’s what I was afraid of happening) by the time I got the blindfold and such off I didn’t get very much candy. . .so I started crying and my friends all felt bad for me and gave me some candy to make me feel better and I ended up getting more then I would have had it never happened!
you bought the costumes, and took them around – i don’t know about a fixed tax, but you should definantly get some, and not the crappy hard candy either.
NO! If he wants candy, he should dress up as well and get it himself.
No! lol
Even if he don’t, he’ll just steal it when the kids are sleeping
he should get as much candy as he wants
Hahha, well I suppose it’s only fair. I found it strange how the majority of people trick-or-treating in my area were adult males. They say you’re never too old to trick-or-treat, but honestly to me, I was a bit worried half the time that I would get snatched.
Pff. No way. I hated it when my parents took my candy. I’d only get to eat a little of it before both of my parents ate it all.
Of course, and if he takes them to MacDonald’s he should get 10% of their french fries if he wants them.
