  • Stripped Mayor

Voters of a small town in Arlington, Oregon have voted to recall their mayor after photos were found of her posed on a fire truck in her underwear.

The population of the town is about 500 and the vote was 142-139.  Kontur-Gronquist had the photos taken in a contest for fitness.  A relative put the photos on Myspace hoping to improve her social life for her.

The photos were taken before her election but she decided to leave them on Myspace after she was elected mayor.  Here is the link:  Link

    The vote was so close.

If the vote were even and you could cast the deciding vote, would you have recalled the mayor for the photos?

  • Nah – even though I’m a little jealous.

  • Yes. That’s completely unacceptable!

  • well, yes and no… for one it’s just MySpace but on the other hand she’s a public figure so it should’ve been on the DL

  • Who wouldn’t want a hottie as mayor?  Besides, her social life should increase ten-fold now that she made your blog.

  • No.  That’s rediculous.

  • This country is so full of prudes.

  • She’s an authoritative figure, and one that shouldn’t have to use a myspace to get a social life. She’s very beautiful.

  • No. There’s far worse things she could’ve done.

  • No. She is cut; and it has nothing to do with her ability to govern.

  • Definately unacceptable….our “leaders” should be above reproach…

  • We don’t like a mayor who is posting underwear pics on the internet (that she didn’t actually put there in the first place), yet we have no problem with a guy who is getting tricks from at least one intern and had an affair (at least the one we know about) before we elected the guy president.

    Hmmm…..where is the logic….

  • Now the Republicans are bringing forth a guy who fooled around on his wife and got divorced from her, only to get married again a month later.  Nothing like a little sadness about being divorced, huh?

  • Oh geez.. Keep on flaunting them..

  • she’s human… i’m sure her posing for a fitness contest or whatever won’t affect her role as mayor.  someone said it right… we’ve got a bunch of prudes living in this country.  it’s not like she was naked.  i mean, what if she was on the beach and someone snapped a photo of her in her bikini and posted it up on myspace??  are mayors not allowed to take off their robes??  she’s got a hot body…

  • Well, I would need to inspect her outfit more closely in private to be sure but I don’t think so.

  • Wow shes really buff……*scared*

  • Who really gives a shit if she posed in her underwear? Who’s business is it any way?

  • Well, maybe she should start a fitness intiative in town, since she looks so fit and everything!

  • No.  I’m not sure what the big deal is…  She’s not being provocative in the photo – unless simply wearing underwear or a 2-piece swimsuit is provocative.  What difference does it make?

  • While she should have been aware enough of the world to know that these pictures would be found and stink would be raised I don’t think she should be kicked out for it. It’s just silly and prudish.

  • She looks great, but I wonder why she posed in underwear instead of a swimsuit. Its a small distinction, but still…

  • No, but she should have been more careful of who’s hands the photos ended up in. There are always people out there waiting for others to “screw up” and to point fingers.  Just let people be!   I do not think the photos have anything to do with on how well she can govern.

  • You didn’t say if she was a Republican or Democrat.

  • Nope.  The photos were there before the election.  Anyone could have seen them.  She wasn’t positing for Playboy, she was posing for a fitness contest.

I read the article.  People are using the photos to cloud the real issue of their disagreement with her over other issues.

  • No.

Maybe this is the opportunity to find a bigger town to govern.

  • i dont think it should have her thrown out, but she needs to take that picture out and apologize to the public. c’mon, she’s got a hot body. would it be as bad if she were fat and ugly?

  • Haha on the putting up pictures to improve her social life :P

  • Fuck you prudes. Fuck you.

No. She didn’t do anything wrong.

Here’s a blanket statement: Anyone who would have cast her out is a prude, and needs to get a life.

  • NO- why Not have a “Hot” Mayer !

Ya think Hillary would pose for the same ??? and would that affect the voting?…LOL

  • @LarsThunder - I like your comment.

  • I wouldn’t approve.  This is the sort of thing I’d hope my sisters-in-law and female friends would have the good sense to not do.  But I wouldn’t consider it grounds for kicking someone out of office.

  • My question is: If she were in a bakini on a vacation, would the picture have been as controversial? Because honestly, it doesn’t look provocative to me personally- it looks like it could definately be a fitness picture purely because its mostly showcasing her stomach. She has a great body and I think it was a shame that this happened to her.

  • I don’t understand why people would even care. Photographs- nude, bikinied, or otherwise have absolutely no bearing on a leader’s ability to make sound decisions.

  • No, I would not have.

  • Was there an option on the ballet to ask her out?

  • You know, this blog makes me want to kill myself.

How can one feel like a part of the human race is most everyone is so fucking stupid?

Seriously, it’s not even funny. Our leaders should be above reproach?

As long as you operate in the illusory perception of a kind of pure morality, our elected leaders will continue to deceive us because in that frame ALL their statements are in fact lies.

This mayor keeps it real. She can be sexy, she can be human, she can be mayor.

She even has a myspace. I bet McCain doesn’t shit or fart, I bet he just glows Jesus-light to all the little Christian babies he will save when he outlaws abortion.

  • I wouldn’t think posing in your underwear would be appropriate for any mayor, although if it was done beforehand, then whats the big deal? There are millions of shots of Arnold Schwarzenegger running in a tiny thong on the internet from before he was the governer of California…so whats the big deal here?

  • No-

But wow. she shouldn’t have a myspace– And for social life improvement? Sad-

  • am I the only one who doesn’t think she’s hot?

  • No. We have this image of fit people on a pedestal these days, why not have the pedestal be a fire truck?

  • shit happens, she’s human. I guess maybe she shouldn’t have lef them up on myspace when she was running, but everyone makes mistakes.

  • @BenjimonYetAgain - She even has a myspace. I bet McCain doesn’t shit or fart, I bet he just glows Jesus-light to all the little Christian babies he will save when he outlaws abortion.

    His daughter is hot, however.

  • @rasclus - It’s a hot body/weird face thing.

  • @huginn - She is hot.

*Insert obligatory freak in the sack comment*

  • @EarthsAzureLight - I think if she wasn’t so blonde…she ain’t bad though.

  • Probably.  I’d have a hard time respecting her.  I think she showed poor judgment.

  • @shellybean99 - I agree with you. Why not a swimsuit?

I doubt I would have recalled the vote. However I grew up in a town just a little bit bigger than this one, where conservatives were definitely the majority. There’s no doubt that the vote would have been recalled.

  • she looks freaky.

  • Still okay.. I can accept that. At least she didn’t naked okay!

This photo is represented nothing. We vote according to the ability of the representator. This underwear photo means nothing.

  • It’s no big deal.

  • I don’t think it’s a big deal, so I would not vote to recall her. But I suppose the more conservative people would feel that this is not the kind of person they would want as their leader. Probably the same kind of people that wouldn’t want Schwarzenegger to be a governor, either. :D

  • haha, I remember when this first surfaced.

Under the circumstances, no. She was telling the truth, it is not pornographic or even intended to be pornographic. I say that the village is full of a bunch of prudes wanting to gain attention in the media. If I remember right, she removed them.

Arnold Schwarzzeneger (can’t spell his last name) was a body builder and was photographed like so, and look it, he’s the most popular govenor ever. Did they have a problem? No.

  • I think I would have to see all of the pictures to make that judgement.

  • No, but I might take advantage to recall her for her policies, if I wanted to do that.

  • No, why are people judging her as if she did something bad.. I guess I do not play the role of GOD… and I do not believe in SIN either… its what I call a very nasty game that when people like to stand on judgement of another because their values have been stepped on! goes for the name racism that is currently happening as well.. I am sic and tired of the racism .. whether it be judging a photo.. names, the way a person looks.. when are we ever going to accept a person for their hearts.. and not the looks.. or what they had done…when???????

  • is she naked? no. do i even care? no. turns out id vote for the most qualified person – them being a pornstar or not would have no weight on my judgement.

  • Hell no. Aaaaaaahnold has posed for fitness shoots in his tighty whities, too, I don’t see people knocking down the door to revoke his governorship.

  • @GermanWrench - Ah, our loveable, grope-anator. I wonder why us Californians keep electing Republican governors.

I also can’t quite understand the uproar over Barry Bond’s steroids use when California has a former steroid freak sitting on his Sacramento throne.

  • no this is retarded.  actually a perfect example of personal dislikes getting in the way of actual governance.  retarded.

  • NO, NO, A THOUSAND TIMES NO.

How the fuck is this unacceptable? That’s pretty classy underwear – the suits you see on the beach are much more revealing. Generally, when you’re in a fitness contest, you want to show off your body. That’s how it works.

  • She’s in great shape! I don’t think she should’ve been kicked out! Especially if she had been doing a great job for 3 years!

    *HUGS*

  • No.

  • No…

  • I don’t know. . . I’m sure I’d feel differently if she was nude, but there is more fabric there than a lot of bathing suits.  Not very good discretion on her part, but I’m not sure that photo is racy enough for her to lose her job over it.

And as a total side note:  She is pretty fit.

  • It would depend on whether she was a Democrat or a Republican. ;) Seriously, I would have to look at her overall platform. I would not base my vote on the photo alone.

  • Yeesh, some people over-react.  While this may not be the most appropriate photo for a mayor, this was taken before she was elected and people should have known about this.  And this also was for a fitness show and not a porn show.  While both shows do show off the body, it is in a different context.  Fitness shows generally focus on how fit and how toned the bodies are whereas porn shows focus more on being arousing and erotic.

…although it may have been better in hindsight to take the photo down after being elected due to situations like this happening.

I would need to take more time to study her positions and her achievements when this came up for vote.  It really depends on how she was doing in running the town.

  • No.  I’ve seen  much worse.  People are just being prudes.

  • I have no idea.  I don’t know anything about how she was running the town, and that would play a factor in my vote.  If I thought the woman would do an excellent job as Mayor, I wouldn’t care about her personal life.  If that woman were in her swimsuit, I doubt people would care nearly as much.  From what I can tell, her undergarments are fairly modest compared to some out there.  There are many bathing suits that show more than what she is showing in that photo.

The fact that it was for a fitness competition makes it different in my mind as well.  She wasn’t doing it to show off her body in a provocative way, it was to promote her level of fitness (which does appear to be fairly high).

I guess the main point is that I would make my decision based on my determination of the woman’s professional life and if I thought she was worthy of being the mayor.

  • no. why be such prudes? i mean, it isnt like she was stripping just to strip and show her goods.  it was for a fitness contest, and obviously she is damn fit.

  • If the vote were that close, I’d leave things at the status quo. It isn’t that big of a deal.

  • No

if you say yes you need to pull the stick out of your ass; she wasn’t caught snorting coke in a bathroom people, it was photos for a fitness contest.

  • its her myspace. that bull crap that they pulled her out of office. i think she should be allowed to stay in. i would voted for her to stay in.

  • if she was posing for a fitness contest then why isnt she wearing fitness attire?

  • No, gosh. I think the people were just jealous because either a) they were women who didn’t have the body of the mayor, or b) they were men who couldn’t get the mayor to have sex with them.

  • Nope.

Should Ah-nold step down from his governship of Cally-for-nee-uh for appearing in movies with his shirt off?

  • If she counted on remaining the mayor of this tiny conservative town (poulation 524), she probably made a major miscalculation by allowing her “hotbod” myspace photos to remain up while she was mayor, which probably indicates a major lack of judgement and calls into question her ability to govern even this tiniest of towns.

Arlington, OR Political Inclinations: “Residents gave more to the Republican party than any of the others.” Gee, that’s a big %&#$* surprise!

Supposedly “the pics were shot before she was elected mayor three years ago, and she saw no grounds to take them out from the web after taking authority”.

    How about these grounds:

    Keeping your %&^*# job!!!!!

    HELLO?!?!?!

On the other hand, if Ms. Kontur-Gronquist (that’s how more than a million people now know her) was interested in some publicity, obtaining a nice little chunk of fleeting fame, then she is the clear winner, HANDS DOWN!

Hmmm. Let’s see … which is better?

    1) Having a photo of myself, displayed in a reasonably flattering, nocompromising photo, demonstrating that I have a superhot bod and that I kick total ass fitness-wise, spashed across the entire country for a day or two

    2) Being the mayor of a cracker jack, one-horse town.

Now she can happily move over and let each of the other 524 residents take a turn at governing. In the end, it will be good for democracy.

  • Correction: The other 523 residents.

  • Not unless it could be shown to interfere with her mayor-ly duties. I mean, if the pictures were causing people to really stop taking her seriously, or if she was not fulfilling her responsibilities as mayor, then dump her. But otherwise…leave her alone. You don’t have to re-elect her next time around.

  • Fitness contest?! I would want someone who is motivated enough to care about their body! This is ridiculous!
I’d be proud to have her as my mayor!
    -David

  • Mayor or fitness coach? Wow.

  • @BenjimonYetAgain -

    Haha
    You are absolutely correct!

  • nah, even mayors need their fun

  • That’s just stupid. So what she posed for a picture? Now if she was naked and with a pony or something I could understand them not wanting her to be Mayor but this is lame to boot her for this.

  • no. that’s dumb and it’s in the past. if everyone had their jobs taken away because of stupid phorographs we would all be unemployed.

  • NO!  It has nothing to do with her ability to govern, as others have said.  Besides, that type of thing is shown on TV every day of the year.  She’s pretty buff.  Give the girl some credit.

  • it’s not like she took the pictures just to take the pictures, she did it for a contest… so no

  • no

  • No…such a stupid thing to recall a mayor over.

  • eh mayor or not people have lives and who really cares what someone does in their free time it is THEIR free time after all

  • yes

  • What’s wrong with having a hot mayor?  She’s not all that hot in reality, but confidence is awesome!  If all politicians had the confidence to say what they were going to do, before they got elected, and pose on a big red firetruck, maybe we’d be in a better place right now.

  • If she were a guy we wouldn’t even be thinking about this,  we let Clinton run the country and we all know what went down in his office!

  • I don’t know what’s the big deal with the photo.  It doesn’t bother me.

  • Yep cause Im a prude……….

  • Holy!! I want her abs!!!

  • Oh, and NO…! I wouldn’t mind have a FEMALE mayor at that age who can still maintain that sort of body. Wowzers!

  • No, if the photos were truly used in a fitness competition.

  • It’s no different that being in a bikini in my opinion, so who cares?  Seriously…people are upset about that?

  • It looks bad, but I can’t think of a practical reason for recalling her on the pictures alone.  I’d rather recall someone for something substantial like misusing city funds for personal purposes.

Would people do the same if she was a man? Probably not, because a man doing this in his boxers looks arrogant/stupid and a woman doing this in her underwear looks weak like she’s propositioning herself.  Fitness?  Who takes fitness pictures in their lacy underwear instead of their swimsuit like all other body builders?  And on a fire truck?  Trying to improve her “social” life?  I think we can all agree that this picture was taken in bad taste and people recalled her because they were embarassed.  If she were a man, they would have thought he was an idiot and found some other reason for pushing him out, pushing him around in office, or suffering this embarassment in silence.  People are harder on women because women are typically known for using their bodies for attention, not men.  So they’ve learned to be more outraged when they see it in women – “there goes another woman selling herself out for attention.  We need to set an example for young women before they become strippers.”  People need to know that it’s just as bad for men.  But, then again, most men seem to know better.

To put forth the voting for the recall was overeacting, but I can’t say with certainty that given the opportunity to recall that I wouldn’t have considered voting yes.

I don’t like the actions of either the mayor or her townspeople, but she is in the business of politics and in politics you’re not going to get away with allowing yourself to get caught with your pants down, no less continue to allow yourself to be found this way.

  • posting on your past posts will only help if I haven’t previously commented. Good thing you post several times a day!

  • I wouldn’t recall her. What she did was far less than what Bill Clinton was known to do.

  • whatever she does in her personal life has nothing to do with the fact she’s a mayor. heck, i’m gonna pose nude for some photos for my friend…on a second thought, i might be come a public figure in the future..maybe that is not a good idea…hmmm

  • Where’s the “I’d tap that” mini???

  • *is totally kidding*

But, no; no, not if the photos were truly used in a fitness competition.

She may be mayor, but she’s still HUMAN.  sigh.

  • Geez…unless you have a fetish of some sort this woman probably wouldn’t turn me on…I mean she is RIPPED! Geez…

I don’t know, she is the mayor…the face of the town, that kids see. It’s a sticky situation but not as bad as being a teacher and doing this.

  • well they were for a fitness contest, not a maxim photo shoot. hmmm i’d probably vote no, unless she was an incompetent mayor as well.

  • same thing with clinton too. i think he was a good president, if he ran for another term, i’d vote for him despite the lewinsky thing.

  • No. Her posing in her undies have nothing to do with her ability to govern.

While it does call for some restraint on her part, it’s not an offence worthy of being ejected from her elected post.

  • No, though she shouldn’t have kept them up.

  • No it’s not like she was nude.

  • She should have been more careful with the pictures…

  • I think something could be said about their disapproval of what she did but I don’t think she deserves to be recalled for that. She really didn’t do anything that wrong.

  • I dunno, but can I get her Ab workout plan?

  • Not even!  Our presidents can play hide the cigar in the oval office, our congressmen can send naughty messages to teenaged boys and even solitic sex in bathrooms but a woman can’t pose in what looks to me like a lot more than what most others wear on a beach without catching crap from puritanical hypocrites?  She broke no law so what is the big deal?  Seems to me that her biggest crime was in using EmptySpace instead of Xanga!

  • But on some level, it isn’t right, for two unrelated things to be unable to co-exist.  I guess that’s what a conflict of interests is.

  • personally, I dont think I would have worried about it, but now that I have seen it I am going to have to work out even harder so I will look good when I get up on the fire truck (minus the boobies of course)

  • Wow I really didn’t expect that this many people would be saying that they would vote to recall her. Unbeleivable.

  • I would NOT have recalled her.  I’ve seen photos of the GOVERNOR of California wearing LESS in the name of fitness.

  • No – who cares. She is not nekkid and looks great – a picture of health. Actually that can be a good example to people.

  • if thats the extent of her “corruptness” I would take that over what other elected officials have done.

  • she’s got a great body. it takes a LOT of hard work to get ripped like that. i know…

but man… how stupid is she?

  • what a creeper…

  • She’s lovely, it was before her term, and it was for a good cause.

    I’d say she’s a keeper.

  • ARNOLD SWARZENEGATOR WORE LESS THAN THAT!

  • nah, it just means she has more character

  • Eh, not everyone is perfect. Those photos don’t automatically make her a bad person.
