  • The Boredom of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a day set aside to spend time with your family and to be thankful for all the good that comes into your life.

This also means that everything is shut down on Thanksgiving.

Does the idea of doing nothing all day on Thanksgiving cause you boredom?

  • I do nothing most days.

  • I stocked up on coffee and novels in preparation.

  • I’ll be playing pictionary on the wii. I’ll be having a blast! :)

  • No, I like to stay at home and get wrapped up in alone time activities a lot, thanksgiving (the non-holiday) is just another excuse to be myself.

  • Well, not boredom. I’ve learned that there must be *something* to do at holiday gatherings or else gossip will break out… we avoid boredom like the plague.

  • the books! the books! :D :D :D

  • EATING, I LOVE EATING

  • We spend the day eating and watching movies. What could be more enjoyable than that?

  • i wanted to get a haircut tmrw, only to be reminded the mall will be closed. sigh. there goes my edgy haircut.

  • i do nothing everyday

  • i’ll be cooking, cleaning, and trying to swing over to the gym cause they’re open in the morning…

  • Well, since we all spend most of our days at home on the internet anyway, not really. If the internet shut down for the holidays there would be trouble.

  • I don’t really go out much sooooo nope doesn’t bother me :P . so long as my sims game is up and running i’m happy!

  • vegas is never closed.

  • We make things happen. We laugh, we share, we visit. No time for doubt, moving forward, no time for getting depressed. We fake smiles and hide our weaknesses. In our most vulnerable moments, I cry in my room. I know i am loved, but love is not strong enough to defeat the emptiness. We know that food taste good, but food cannot taste good in our belly.

We pretend our lives our rich, we act like xanga is just something we do on the internet. We pretend we are not afraid of rejection, too many wiis. Hold up. Let me make you feel special. Feel the love, my love, the love.. for love, in love. The stars above ( LoL!!) Take my hand fellow xangan (Lol!!) and let us go meet Timmmmmmy. And when you say his name, spell it with all six ms.

I couldn’t get anything out of life. Mr. Shakespeare is dead, holla. So I’m singing a song for you, I am laying in my bed once again, can you hear the music? My word is the sounds. Put on your tie mr chan, I’ M cooking you for Thanksgiving.

Ok, I’m done. I have a message for Greekphysique. You seem to be an expert on dating. That is all. Shag away mr greek. Mr oh look at my physique.

  • Well, I am on-call today at work, so I have plenty of petients to see and work to catch up on. But no, in the past i loved being with family, watching movies, and playing board games – oh, and napping

  • The holiday ‘shutting down’ is also affecting Canada; I can’t watch any of my favorite American syndicated programs today. Grr.

  • not at all I’m excited to see my grandchild since I just have one 21 months old little boy Reece

  • if you’re doing nothing you’re obviously neither helping nor interacting with your family as you should be.

just reflect on the theft of the American Indian way and the goodly spirit of gratitude and the first day of the Christmas season and such.

if all else fails, get shit drunk.

as a student it’s just back to preparing for final exams for my ilk and me…

  • Movie theaters are open!

  • No. I’m gonna eat all day, and then go get drunk with a friend :)

  • Nothing all day?!  I will be cooking between 8am and 4pm, at least!  And after that… eating.  I like not going out and participating in civilization.  If anything, we just got for a walk.  Enjoy your boring day :)

  • IF I were to spend the day doing nothing, I would be most definitely bored.  But I am cooking the meal, so I’ve got a lot to do.  Boredom will ensue tomorrow when I get dragged to wait in line while the husband shops.

  • 11:36 AM Thanksgiving morning and I haven’t been bored yet. In fact, I’ve barely had a chance to sit down. Turkey is done and everything else is in the oven. Dinner will be ready in about 20 minutes. After we eat, we’re headed out to see the new Muppets movie. Then home for pie and grazing the leftovers. Maybe I’ll have time to be bored tonight. Happy Thanksgiving, Dan! I am thankful to have you for a friend.

  • Between the food I don’t like and all the yakking, I do find it hard to be thankful.

  • Nope…Happy Thanksgiving

  • There’s always the hand. So there is always hope.

  • What? You don’t do anything on Thanksgiving? How can this be?

Just because public enterprises aren’t open doesn’t mean you can’t do anything just as thrilling. Make your favorite food, play some good music, read stuff that pleases you, etc. It can be fun! My relatives come over and we cook for them. Not a dull moment :)

  • I am retired and full time caregiver to my husband.  I never have a boring, do nothing day:):)

  • I don’t do nothing.  Ever!  Cannot understand the premise of your question!  Thanksgiving Day is an opportunity to do things which often cannot be done on any other day!

  • haha. obviously you don’t plan thanksgiving dinner, shop for thanksgiving dinner, cook thanksgiving dinner, entertain for thanksgiving dinner, clean up after thanksgiving dinner, and be happy when it is the end of thanksgiving dinner!! lol.

  • I’m thankful i’m not the turkey….

  • Nope.  I love days when I can just do nothing.  I might read, watch TV or play World of Warcraft.  Guilt free.

  • We don’t show up until a little before dinner, so the morning and early afternoon are mine to do with as I please (except all the good stores are closed.)  I expected this evening to be dull so I took some reading material.

  • I live in Thailand. I moved past Thanksgiving a long time ago. Next year I might look into the celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles.

  • We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here but if we did I would be thankful for Facebook Games.

  • I’m never bored on Thanksgiving. I always work.

  • It’s a nice time to play with the iPad while waiting to eat.

  • I was complaining yesterday, actually, that Thanksgiving is a very long, boring day before the family comes over to visit. I milled around the house restlessly for several hours, but I forgot all about how bored I was once my brothers and their families shows up. So I guess it’s worth it

  • This is why my family does Thanksgiving in the evening. Wake up late, prepare food, get ready and party. I feel that if we had it at around noon, afterwards, there’d be nothing to do and truly boring.

  • I had to work on that day. I had a bevvy of consumerists toting shopping bags and complaining about how tired they were of turkey. I wanted to scream at them “give me your turkey! I will eat your turkey!”. The highlight of my day was an old man with two dachshunds in his truck, and when I handed the man his change, they both licked my hand. It was adorable.
