Am I Ugly?
A trend on youtube right now is for people to post videos of themselves and ask the Internet if they are ugly or pretty. Here is the link: Link
If you posted a video of yourself on xanga, do you think you would be labeled “pretty” or “ugly?”

That depends on who is doing the judging.
This is an example of people who are stuck on stupid.
Depends on how much makeup I caked on my face and how much I stuffed my bra.
I thought we were going to get to look at a picture of you and give our answer!
But no no no, still, all we see is the drawing.
Most likely both but then you already know that.
depends on who’s commenting I guess and how much of a cleavage I wear
Pretty ugly
Obviously, since it’s the internet we’d all get everything between ugly and pretty.
Horrendous
Alittle of both, aka average
Even if they were blind they’d say I must be ugly. lol
That is just stupid.
Ugly, but people around here know me and how sensitive I am so they would lie and tell me I was beautiful.
Haha. Anyone remember this on what the hell … hotornot.com? Maybe that was the site. I know there were a shitload of clone sites too.
Holy crap, I just Googled it for shits and giggles. That site still exists! Man, the last time I thought of that site was when I was a sophomore in High School, so aroundabout 2002.
Hmm. I would fall between ugly and mediocre.
Scary.
they’d classify me as a freak of nature
@DivaJyoti - You’ve never seen Dan? There’s been pics of him on Xanga before.
People who like me would say pretty. People who don’t wouldn’t.
@LSP1 - I may have seen him on a temporary vlog once, but not in a photo. I have a terrible memory!
@mtngirlsouth - I think you’re beautiful, actually, just fyi.
@mtngirlsouth - so does my husband, YIKES! haha, that’s OK, I’m not the jealous type
If I gave two shits how I looked, I would be outside and not on the internet in the first place.
@DivaJyoti - Well, thank you both.
i heard about this on the radio the other day. i think people are asking to be bullied because there are mean people out there looking to bash people down. i could see a kid committing suicide over this shit.
uy, what do I know
Pretty to me. But, what do I know.
pP
@DivaJyoti - Some of the people that went to the Xanga meet-up posted pics of him not too long ago.
This is still going on? Wow.
Thats a loaded question.If I say I’m ugly,people will say I just want sympathy.If I say I’m pretty/good looking,then they will say I’m in love with myself.I’m just me for whatever thats worth.
fugly
I don’t know, I am going to post a video RIGHT NOW! Brilliant idea, thanks!
Eh, I’ve asked this question to myself a few times. I might not be the most gorgeous girl in the world, but I think I’m pretty and the people that matter to me think I’m pretty.
Idk. I did that a few times as a teenager on a few different sites, but on 1 – 10, and I feel like I usually got 5. So I guess “UGLY.” These girls are doing it wrong. We used to do the numbers for a more specific answer!
No, just kidding, it’s awful to do in any form. It’s probably the worst thing an insecure person could to to herself, especially if she has a mental illness like an eating disorder or depression. It really killed me when I did it, but thankfully I was able to accept what I basically already knew and “move on,” accepting that I will never be a good looking person. And while I won’t be able to use my physical qualities to help me in life, I have other skills/talents or whatever to rely on.
Unfortunately if you’re 15 years old it takes a long time to realize that/some people realize it too late, or not at all.
@manic_lizard - I remember that haha…I’m younger but in 2007 it was really popular in my high school. Ew, I bet my picture is still floating around somewhere out there hahaha
I was going to respond with “Pretty ugly”, but I see Cousin Paul got there first.
I have not heard of this “trend” til I read this blog… I don’t like it though. Asking such a question like that is asking for attention and people have different opinions and views. People with ugly hearts are ugly and people with good hearts are pretty to me
… Sort of haha.
I’ve been labeled ugly without even having asked for an opinion
That’s terribly shallow
hahah I wouldn’t post my video and ask that silly question.
I classify myself as a handsome young gent.
Why such extremes? Most people tend to look average so I’d say people would comment I’m average – neither pretty nor ugly.
old. I look old:):) and I earned the wrinkles:):) and the sag:)
You tell me!!
Thats why as a simple alley cat I took the decision to wear a Templars outfit. I think it does wonders to my image.
All the girls say I’m pretty fly…
for a white guy.
@ShimmerBodyCream - me too
@Baseballchik138 - hot
You can’t tell if a person is ugly if you don’t know them… duh…
Anyone can lust over a body. Anyone can modify their body. Make-up, ect…
Beauty is the SOUL… anyone who thinks differently is immature and foolish.
Why people don’t get this (especially adults), boggles my mind.
Just be you. Be the best you that you can be.
The body fades; it wasn’t meant to be anything more than a vessel, anyway.
YIKES!
Look like Macaulay Culkin, with a bad haircut.
Probably a mixture of both, because people on youtube, and the internet in general, are crazy stupid cruel. They have nothing better to do with their lives than troll on the internet, so it’s just a bad idea. You can’t trust strangers on the internet. Period.
And I was going to blog about this, myself. You beat me too it! lol
@TiredSoVeryTired - Agreed
Even though I don’t believe I am ugly, I’m pretty sure there will be some very cruel, racist and hurtful comments about my appearance should I be silly enough to invite them. Thankfully I am not that silly.
Some say I am pretty while others have said I am ugly. I no longer try to make myself look pretty, so it doesn’t matter to me. I hide what I don’t want anyone else to touch, basically.
@AgainstTheWind1 - I’m imagining you in Victoria’s Secret panties RIGHT NOW.
@demonicsinner - You’re my hero.
@ShimmerBodyCream - Ok, but I don’t do thongs…
This really isn’t that different from Hot or Not…
I posted my pic there just to see what would happen. Some said I was hot, some said I was definitely not. So I’d probably get mixed votes.
Pretty.
@Cestovatelka - I’m not blind and I would never think you would post on you tube to ask that question. The scenario that Dan made up would make me think he is catering to a younger woman audience.We know about his view on women’s physique.
@PPhilip - I was partially sarcastic in my comment
lol
Depends on who was commenting. I don’t think of myself as beautiful, which may be why I have a picture of a tree.
These people are so desperate for instant gratification and acceptance that they subject themselves to public ridicule and embarrassment. It is like a drug they must receive over and over again. It is childish………
Aleister Nacht
ugly but people would put it into politically correct terms.
Whatever we don’t want to hear.
Mediocre.
I don’t know who that girl is in the photo, but she’s cute.
@korean_biyatch - Absolutely my thoughts on this. Sad, really.
You gotta be kidding me! I’m sorry, but this is taking the absurd just a little too far for me. I’m my own best judge. I refuse to allow my self image to be defined by the ‘public’. OMG someone find the buttom and delete youtube!
ugly because I have bad teeth, and i’m getting older, so I’ve lost the glow.
I am very pretty my husbaned even says I am hot….but why would I put myself up for the abuse I know some moron would throw at me?
@lucylwrites - You are so spot on. Never put yourself up where some worthless pile can attack you. Some people just get off on being cruel.
If you have to ask if you are ugly in a public forum, you probably already know the answer.
who really cares?
@hollowhopes - I think you’re pretty.
I don’t think I’m a very attractive person. But I wouldn’t call myself Quasimodo either. And I’m cool with that.
I think you aren’t really hitting on the main point… I think since forever people (particularly kids growing up) have been very insecure about who they are as they are still trying to figure themselves out and really understand where they fit into the world.
This ‘trend’ isn’t really a trend as it has been around as long as the internet itself and there have previously been online communities built around this entire ‘rate a picture’ or ‘hot or not’ type of system. People ultimately turn to the internet for validation and opinions because such people believe that those closest to them are not being honest as to not potentially harm their relationship, thus they turn to complete strangers in the belief that compliments or criticisms which are given, are done so sincerely as the strangers have nothing to really ‘gain’ or ‘lose’.
I think the underlying problem here is caused by high pressure from society, parents, and the media telling people that they can all be something great, a real beauty, something that will take other people’s breath away, and everyone wants to be that amazing thing in life, but that’s why growing up is so painful for many people because it requires a level of self-actualization and accepting that a lot of the promises and stories you were told by adults were just hopeful lies.
Once we reach adulthood (at whatever age that may be at, as people mature at different speeds), we have a generally good idea of who we are and we have grown to accept who we are as we realize that in actuality, many of the things valued by society such as beauty are actually highly overrated and highly temporary attributes which will cause the person with said attribute to be used then thrown around once their beauty has exhausted so that the next person in line can take their spot while they rot in the gutter, at that point, people realize what the truly important things in life are things such as life itself.
why on earth why I post a video of myself on the internet asking if I was pretty of ugly? Why do I care what random ass people I will never meet think?
it sounds like people need better things to do with their time. i admit i used to worry about my “attractiveness” when i was around their age, but i eventually learned that confidence + a good attitude + an awesome job attracts a lot more people than appearance can.
I’m okay with myself, my boyfriend thinks I’m hot, why should I care?
On another note, I love your “click to save boobies” banner up there.
Every single kid in the western world thinks they’re ugly. Hell pretty much every adult does too, on their worst day. The problem is, there’s always plenty of people out there who want to be first in line to shoot you down. Posting on that site is like handing them the ammo.
Idiots alert.
@Baseballchik138 - You look like a super model.
I don’t care. Feel kinda sad for folks who do.
It’s the internet. I think that no matter how beautiful you are, people would still put you down.
@manic_lizard - OMG! I didn’t even remember that site existed! hahaha
I have confidence in myself so I would say I would be labeled pretty, I don’t believe I’m by no means ugly. I have some tweaking to do to myself, I’m in the process of changing my life & getting healthier
& Obviously, no one is perfect. I’m no model, sadly lol. But I’m not ugly. I wouldn’t think to post a video or picture of myself on the internet & ask people what they think though because I don’t really care. I don’t know them. If I know them, then I’ll listen.
I’m sure there would be people that say I’m hideous, I’m sure there will be people that say I’m gorgeous.
beauty is relative :shrug:
@wtf_turmoill - That’s kind of like the mind set I like to follow lol
@raspberryjade - Everyone has a different preference for what they find attractive. So what matters more is what the people you care about think of you & I can guarantee the reason they stick around isn’t JUST because of your looks!
@mtngirlsouth - I just had to recommend your comment because that has so much to do with it overall.
As far as the whole concept of people doing this, especially children? Sadder than the English language has words to express.
Probably why I blurred my profile picture.
Who cares?
well for girls ugly doesn’t matter there is someone out there that would fuck you. For guys not so much.
Life is not worth living. There is no purpose for me to stay anymore. All I have is anger, disgust and hatred for what I see going on around me… This type of behavior and many other ”modern trends” I have witnessed made me give up on the species. Were so pathetic and boring. We grow up unsatisfied thinking that being approved by others as either “ugly” or “pretty” is the only way. Fuck ‘em. Everythings there to make you feel inadequate (even if you were said to not be ugly) so you buy into lies and shit till the day you die. Yeah, its somehow the stuff of evolution designed to make us operate at a higher level but still… I just think this is a bad thing for people to be doing and will welcome in for many a lot of problems… be it bullying or self-esteem issues. As for my looks or what people would say about me… I don’t give a fuck.
It depends… Do you think your ugly or pretty? Because basically Your being insercure about youself asking people if your pretty or not. It just matters what you think(:
Just be confedent and stop being insecure
that’s all there is to it!
that’s kind of sad that people would do such a thing, and leaving other people out there to ridicule them too =
qosh.. that seem like a really unhealthy thing to post. ot could cause some suicides.
maybe like tumblr is treating thinspo blogs, youtube should censor out all these pretty or ugly videos
Terrible, especially on youtube…these girls are setting themselves up to be trolled. Especially when they are, in fact, not as attractive.
For example, http://youtu.be/8D9mqqkgH-0 . She’s like 14 and most of those comments are fucked up. She hasn’t even aged enough to be given the opportunity to get hot and already her esteem could be getting blown. Sure, her fault posting the vid…but man, could someone have guided her
Anyway, as for me I’d like to think most people would say I’m on the average-prettier side of the spectrum. I can accept that I’d be ugly to some people too. Whatevs lol, as long as I think I’m pretty and my boyfriend does too
now I thought THIS was a funny response to all those am I pretty am I ugly videos!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TwkhhWyXio
I sooner asked the one who wanted to marry me, whether I was ugly or not.
I would not post a photo of me again on Xanga or elsewhere.
lol there use to be those kinds of threads all over online forums a while ago. Some people are just seeking attention or a way to name drop other people…
I think I would be considered cute I mean look at me! LMAO!
People are just asking for trouble. The internet is a haven for trolls, mean spirited people. And anyone brave enough to.do such a thing clearly thinks they are attravtive. Attention seekers.
Some people would probably be very mean and tell me I’m hideous and should probably walk around with a paper bag over my head at all times, but that’s because THEY’RE TROLLS. No girl OR guy should ever depend on strangers to tell them whether or not they are attractive. It’s simply unfair. Beauty to one person may not be the same to another, so the only opinion that should matter is your own!!
I have huge self esteem issues. But I am learning, slowly but surely, that it doesn’t matter what other people think of my appearance, *I* need to be satisfied with how I look. I choose to not wear make-up because I don’t like it, I’m not good at applying it, and I tend to rub my face a lot so I didn’t want the constant worry over my head over whether I smeared my eyeliner or not. If I were to ask a group of strangers whether or not I’m pretty, I would bet MONEY that most would tell me make-up would make me look better. Who cares?? That’s why I DON’T post a video like that, because I don’t give a shit.
If you don’t look good to yourself and FOR yourself, no other person’s judgement is going to help you feel better about yourself- you’re only going to pay attention to the negative comments.
I hope these girls learn to find the beauty that everyone has, and to realize that a lot of that comes from within, too.
♥L

@sometimestheycomebackanyway -
you’re much too kind!
@Baseballchik138 - Even though I stand by my words, I was hoping that flattery would get me everywhere.
@Face_Of_Innocence - haha thank you
you are, too!
I agree with @mtngirlsouth People who like me would say im pretty and people who dont like me would probably say im not pretty&for people who dont know me IDK :/
Your pretty, and I don’t think anyone would call another person ugly on the internet, I think they would just not comment if they thought someone was ugly
Pretty! =)
