  • Questioning God

Imagine you could ask God any question and He would answer.

What question would you ask God?

  • Was I a good and faithful servant?

  • Can I ask you more questions?

  • But see?  Here’s the thing.  He always answers our questions to him.  We may not like the answers we’re given, and sometimes we have to wait for an answer, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t answering at all….

  • Dan, did you post this to bring out the overly religious people on xanga?

also, I would probably ask “why?”

  • I will need the lotto numbers for the next 10 drawings. I can wait to find out all my other questions and there are far to many of them to just pick one.

  • What can I do different/better to be in Your perfect will?

  • @stephened - I bet he is waiting for the bitter atheists questions … nay I think this is just a question with no hidden motives behind it

  • hrm… lots of questions to ask, but i would probably be tempted to ask how to obtain a TARDIS… perhaps if i could find a way to bundle all the questions into one..

  • Why cockroaches?

  • Why don’t sheep shrink when it rains?

  • “So like…where were you when that girl was getting gang raped?”

  • I believe I would forgo the question(s) and say thank you for accepting me just as I am, and allowing me to be in your Kingdom. Bro. Doc

  • I’d ask him why I was talking to a non-existent deity.

  • Was Jesus your son?

  • Why did you cancel Firefly?

  • How can I love You more?

  • @Lordv16 - Yes. Exactly.

My question, if I were assuming that a god exists, would be, “How can you, a being who has the power to stop something evil from happening, sit idly by and watch as innocent people die?”

The fact that there is no answer to this question is why I cannot believe in god. If there is anything “up there”, it is not a being worthy of praise and faith. It is some creature which derives pleasure from the pain of all the innocent people that die and suffer for no good reason, and all the people who grieve after they are gone.

  • do you look like morgan freeman or no because i’m expecting morgan freeman and if you’re not morgan freeman, it may be a wee bit disappointing for me.

  • I’d ask him why he still loves us, and wants to be a part of our lives, when so many of us want nothing to do with him.

  • I did 45 years ago. Still waiting for him to get back to me. Must have been a tough question. I’ve moved on but if he gets back to me I’ll have another question for him. I think he’s stalling because he’s hoping my life ends before he has to answer the second. “God…kicking the can down the road for eternity.”

  • That’s a tough question… I don’t have a bloody clue. It’s like I finally found the one who has ALL the answers and that’s when I decide to have performance issues.

    Crap.

  • “Why do You allow horrible things to happen that most humans would put a stop to if they could?” And if I could ask another couple of questions, I’d throw in, “Why do You hide Yourself so thoroughly when showing more evidence for Your existence would cause so many more people to follow You and be saved?” aaand, “What are you going to do about the Atheists who don’t believe in You because they see absolutely no evidence for Your existence and they see the harm that religion/blind faith/people confusing their desires for Your will (which, let’s be honest, can be pretty hard to decipher) has caused?  What do You do with people who choose Atheism because they cannot ethically support what seems like something that is not only false but harmful? What do You do with people who reject You not because their hearts are hardened, but because they are tender to the plight of humanity and the earth and they don’t understand how a loving God would permit millions of atrocious acts they’d gladly die to prevent?”

  • @iones_island - I think this is the best question so far. But all people should know Tardis’ are grown.

  • A very good topic… i would most likely ask him something along the lines of “how did i become who i am today?”…. i have always wondered this constantly cause i seem to be very different from my siblings and friends… i dont like it…. hopefully he answers…..

  • You are said to be all benevolent, all knowing and all powerful. This would mean that you desire the world to be good, that you know how to make the world good and that you have the power to do so even while allowing free will..

Allowing that all this is true, can you explain to me why the natural world of life including Man operates on the principles of pain and suffering, usually without involving free will at all, with the only relief due to Man’s reason?

A second question would be along the lines of why there is no clear evidence that you even exist?

  • “Really, God… Really?”

  • @Lithium98 - OMGGGG…best. comment. ever.

  • No but seriously….

How did you get all of these people to believe that you are actually this all knowing, all loving being….while simultaneously convincing them to read and whole heartedly believe all the hate-filled ridiculous BS in the bible?   I mean…really?

  • Lord, why her?

  • God did not create sin. He allows it to exist. In His time He will destroy sin, and then He will make all things beautiful again. Sin has not yet reached its fullness.

God has shown patience for the human race, but I have yet to see a human being who thought himself to be morally superior to God to demonstrate God’s level of patience with Him. God’s ‘moral superiors’ have failed to love as equally as God loves. God’s ‘moral superiors’ have failed to equal Him in wisdom and understanding. God’s ‘moral superiors’ have failed to demonstrate the level of intelligence that God has shown in creating the 210 sextillion stars in the known universe and the corresponding life that fills this universe from one end to the other.
It is unfortunate that if I was a deity, I would ignore all the petty questions from the morally arrogant among the human race. Thankfully, I am not God. God is loving. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.

  • Three questions,  very hard to narrow it down.

Why do I get these dreams for?

What colour are the toilet paper in heaven?

Will there ever be a cure for all diseases/conditions etc in the world?

  • I would ask a couple of questions:

    1. Who killed Marilyn Monroe?
    2. Who killed (and where is ) Jimmy Hoffa?

  • Can I set the “reset” button on my life & try again. Please??. Pretty please?

  • I don’t know what I would say but I would probably make some joke assuming somebody is pranking me because I do not believe in god.

  • What should I be doing, right now?

  • “Did I really take that much mescaline?”

  • Just don’t go, “Can I ask you a question?” and waste it.

  • if you’re so awesome, great and kind to everyone…. why don’t you erase wars, poverty, cruelty to animals, pedophilia, people that rape other people, people that harm their families in any way, kidnapping, and so on, and so on… wouldn’t world be like heaven if you truly existed? people die everyday and a bunch of them believe in you, it’s not fair.
i swear i don’t understand people who buy this “God” bullshit

  • Why am I still alive?

  • I did ask God years ago why was my life such a mess? and he did answer me with ,”everything has happened just the way I planned it?” then I said,”it wasn’t the way I planned it.” lol that is when I gave up being God …

  • “Your book says you will deny entry to heaven those that deny you, but I have met many atheists that have been more moral and just then most religious folks, what happens to them?”

  • WHY?  Why did he take an only child from her parents in her prime?  Why does he take any child? Any person for that matter.  This is why I don’t believe in god.

  • @TheSutraDude - Oh, for crying out loud! You were raised Lutheran! You know very well that God is busy eating casseroles from the many Lutheran women who have died. Perhaps your question was answered, but you weren’t listening.

  • “Is there really a master plan for everything?” I don’t so much need to know what the plan is, but I’d feel a lot more comfortable knowing that there is or isn’t one.

  • I would like to know when I’m going to die.

  • Why do mosquitoes exist? :P

  • I have tons of questions for Him right now, but in His presence, i won’t remember any.

  • i would not ask a question. i would make a comment: “thank you.”

  • Hmmm. Lol. I would probably ask him where my cat, Moo, is at.

  • Why the devil?

  • Is there anything in heaven we cannot not do.

  • I’m considering two questions:

    A) Why do you want to be worshipped?

    B) What can I do to please TheTheologiansCafe?

  • God,
    Are you a woman?

  • I feel like I would just want to say thanks for everything he’s done to me, both good & bad.
It shaped my existence this very day, if it wasnt for those struggles & tribulations, I wouldnt be the person that I am.

  • Why don’t You love me?

  • why didn’t people respond to my questions the way people respond to Dan’s question?

  • Why did you put the seeds on the inside of the best fruits??? All except bananas, you got that one right,

  • Why are soooooo many of your worshipers complete and utter assholes?

actually, i asked him that 4-5 years ago.  the only answer my brain received: God is an asshole, too.

  • No need to imagine…just ask.
Are we truly significant, being microscopic temporary beings within an enormous gigantic universe?

  • I’m a guy why didn’t I get any guy things, like the desire/ability to work on engines?  Why can’t I build things with my hands?   Why can’t I be like other guys with the abilities and desires to fix and build things?   I really would like the answer.

  • I would as him if I should give the points in the Niners game.

  • If you possess the ability to control all things, why are there people suffering when you can stop it all in a second with one word?

  • “Please stop your slaves from trying to convert me”

I dont as questions to things I know dont exist…

  • @thefittedsheet - There’s Black Nazarene and Santo Nino

  • Who had crushes of me and what do people really think of me except for being quiet

  • *crushes on me

    ahh thinking too fast

  • How are You so patient with me?

  • Why did you make me unable to believe in your existence and how could you exist when the world so obviously can exist without you according to scientific investigation?

  • will you ever step aside ?

  • You seem to have gone to great lengths to hide yourself from anyone employing reasoning processes with any semblance of intelligence or objectivity. Why?

However, after reading a few of the other comments, I’m kind of inclined to ask, “Why are your followers such pathetic and obvious suck-ups?”

  • @Broken_Black_Moon @Saridactyl @DistantStarlight@perfect2013 - if God were to take away every evil thing/person in the world, he would have to take you and me away too. Nobody is completely innocent-we all are guilty of hurting others and causing suffering through our words, actions, choice, etc.

  • If you want me to believe that you exist, why don’t you just show yourself?

  • I’d also basically ask “why?” Why did he make earth, people, etc… though I have the horrible feeling he’d say: “Because I can”.

    SUMR

  • Why do you worry about who we have sex with when you have created a world which kills through earthquakes, storms, volcanos, and shitty stuff like that?

  • i’d ask him to turn my water to wine because i’m sure his presence would be nauseating & i’d need wine to tolerate him.

  • Why do you make us kill each other over fairy tales about you?

  • I would ask him, why did he take my bestfriend who was only 20 and was murdered over a ridiculous fight?

  • What is my life’s purpose?

  • I’d probably ask why I was so fucked up but to tell the truth I already know the answer I just don’t want to know.

  • So… What’s up with some of your overzealous followers (Christians, Jews and Muslims included)?

  • Why couldn’t you be a woman ?
    Cheers, michel

  • Why did you take my dad and then my mom from me. Force me to witness my dad go through cancer. Shrivel up and eventually die. While with my mom having seriously bad sleep apnea so bad that she started a huge fire in our apartment. Why did I have to witness all this at a young age?

  • I have two burning questions, one of them about homosexuality and the other about suicide. I’m just… There’s a lot I wanna ask the Big Man Upstairs. Things down here are rough, and sometimes you can’t help but wonder….

  • @mtngirlsouth - re-read 2 Timothy 3:15-16…. and ask yourself what does the word “Complete” (NIV says “thoroughly equipped”) mean?  You’ll find your answer in that passage.  (Review Psalm 119:9 & 11 and Psalm 1:1-6 as well.)

As for me, Dan, I have all the answers from God that I need.  There are no pertinent questions that I honestly feel he’s left unattended.  Even something as extreme as my leaving America to become a missionary in Taiwan — which I did 4 years ago this upcoming Feb 4th — was answered through a patient and careful study of His Word and in seeking His guidance for my life.

Trust in Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding
Acknowledge him IN ALL THAT YOU DO, and HE WILL guide you on the paths you should take.  (Proverbs 3:5-6)

That verse is a promise — and one that I take pretty close to heart.   He’s never failed me yet … and I’ve learned that trust is far better than questions of “Why?” or “How?” or “Can you create a boulder so heavy that even you can’t move it”… and other silly things like that.

  • I wouldn’t need to ask him any questions, I believe he will reveal everything to me when the time is right :) – faith is strength

  •          If I could ask him multiple questions we would be sitting there forever.
