  • Dead Xangan

Many of you remember the xangan who was killed.  Her name was Kelsey Smith.  Here is her xanga site:  Link (Oddly, her third to last post on xanga declared that xanga was dying.  Here is the link:  Link2).

Her mother is now pushing for cell phone companies to be forced to release cell phone information to police in the case of emergencies.  Here is the link:  Link
If you were to die, would you want me posting about you on xanga?

  • I don’t think I’d care.

  • I wasn’t aware of this story; thanks for sharing it, Dan.  I’d be honored to think If I died, a fellow Xangan would blog about it, and would hope that it would be someone who liked me, or at least that it would be a respectful post.  Not that I’d have any say in things at that point.

  • What a terrible story. That poor girl!

If I die, I’d only want you to post about me. Nobody else.

  • Only in case of an emergency.

  • I want you to write a eulogy for me. And make it funny.

  • Sure. And if it’s by suicide, I would be pretty disappointed if you don’t ‘rec my note.

  • I’ll leave my Mom instructions to ship you my laptop so you can post all of my nudes.

  • I can’t imagine that I would mind….you know…that whole being dead thing and all.

  • Sure, I won’t be around to read it.

  • I’d want someone to write about me. I wouldn’t want everyone thinking I just bailed. I know I haven’t met any of my xanga friends in real life (yet) I’d like to think at leqst one person would care haha

  • What happened to her? And I’m surprised her site hasn’t gotten shut down yet either..

  • I hope if I were to die you would post about me! LOL

  • P.S. Formerly RadicalRamblings

  • she was on xanga? holy crap.. i did not know that. I remember the case but that’s just because it was big news here. I used to work at oak park mall.

  • @shezadey - she was kidnapped from a target parking lot, taken to the woods and murdered. it was a big thing because it happened in broad daylight on camera.

  • Nobody knows me and I don’t have any ‘friends’ on here. But if someone found out I died and wanted to post an entry about me, sure go ahead.

  • That’s just sad.

    @shezadey - I’m surprised too.

  • Doesn’t matter to me if I’m dead, now does it? Do whatever you want. :P

  • You can as long as your are nice and respectful of me and my family

  • Since I am 79 with heart disease and other growing medical problems, I have given my single daughter my user name and password for my site so  in case in have a catastrophic illness or die, she will make a final post for me so my many Xanga friends will know what happened to me.. I have included a farewell note as well.

  • Who wants all my credits? I’ll put it in my will.

  • @HUMOR_ME_NOW - I’m glad you did that but don’t want anything to happen to you. <3

  • That’s horrible what happened to her

  • Nope cause if I was dead no one  would know as I would just disappear.  How do people find out that someone who has been blogging on xanga is dead?

  • I don’t remember this.  I do remember when a Xangan named TheTheologiansCafe died, though.  He still manages to post beyond the grave, somehow.  My theory is that he’s a zombie who’s gonna eat out brains.

  • Poor girl…

And no, I wouldn’t mind if you posted about me in the event of my untimely demise.

  • I can understand why verizon didn’t release the information immediately. It seems a bit of a privacy issue to show the whereabouts of someone. Hi Verizon, I’m a police officer out in the middle of nowhere, please tell me where Miss Lost is, thank you.

Having a law like that in place is good though, so long as they can somehow verify that it is a police officer who is calling.

  • If I die, only 3 people on Xanga would care. So I don’t want anyone to post about me dying. Just let me wander the afterlife and spook people I never liked.

  • That is quite sad. I hope your post will help her case. I don’t think I would like my death posted on xanga. I would prefer to just pass on silently if possible…

  • That’s so sad…  I’d want my cell phone provider to pinpoint my location if I were to go missing someday.

As for your question, I would prefer to keep it between me and my xanga friends (cause you know… you get a lot of traffic on your page). I’d probably do what @HUMOR_ME_NOW has done and give my friend or sister my username and password and have them write a post about me. Same with my other social networks like facebook.

  • If anyone wnated to post about me after my death, I would not have a problem with that. It is a sad story about this poor girl. I somehow found it especially poignant how much she was looking forward to university where her problems would disappear – and how she never go to go.

  • Rather than post T-H-A-T I died, i would rather you post H-O-W I died so that folks (whoever that might be who’d honestly be interested) would know.

As for Kelsey, here’s her story which you omitted in your blog-question.

    The Murder of Kelsey Smith

BTW, Dan — Other Xangans have died of more natural causes.

Jim Exley (Xcellee) (Died of a Heart attack)

Stacey Knapp (Stacey)  (Died of an Asthmatic attack)

    As well as others.

  • I wouldnt know, I guess, you could do a tribute or memorial if you want to….

  • You wouldn’t know I was dead.

  • No.
Do it, and I’ll sue you for defamation of character.

  • I didn’t know about it until now, but I posted on her site.

  • Good idea, Mr. HUMOR_ME_NOW.

Yes, I also plan to leave the same instructions to notify all the people here as well as the other groups I have joined. Not that anyone would know who I am. o;  I mean why not, people send announcements of death when it happens, at least in my family we do.

Sad news about this young lady, this happened long before my joining this group.

Hey Dan, any breakthroughs on the case yet?

  • Would drive more traffic to my site.  I guess that’s good.

  • Why is it odd that she declared Xanga was dying? What, cuz she used the word ‘dying’, and then she DIED?! That’s just uncanny! The other day I told my friend to ‘piss off’, then later that day I needed a PISS!!! Fuckin’ unbelievable!!!

  • I wish her mother the best of luck in getting this passed. Kansas is currently a clusterfuck of a political scene…

If I died, I don’t think you’d know enough about me to post on Xanga, nor would anyone else know enough about me to want to read. (Not an alarmist depressing statement, just the truth. I don’t have the time to really devote to Xanga anymore, so I lurk).

  • I won’t care cause I won’t be around  but that is so sad, there is a country western song that says what makes a life so bad that you would rather have no life at all?

  • [If you were to die, would you want me posting about you on xanga?]

I find that question both ironic AND moot. You just posted about it.

  • I made a memorial video for my Father who passed away – and I did want to share that with others. So yes, sometimes sharing memories of hurt Online allows others to in turn to share their stories of loss and how they deal with the grief to both help and console the initial poster.

  • No, I wouldn’t care.  It might actually be nice that someone noticed I shed this mortal coil.  rofl

  • @JulieMillerFan - Actually the article he linked had her story. Such a horrifying tragedy. :(

  • I wouldn’t mind if anybody wanted to post about me if I ever passed. I’m kind of a loner, so I don’t think many people on here would really know anything happened, or who I was.

Such a sad story. I never heard about it.

  • Would I want you to post about me? No. Just the fact that you took the story about her death here and made it about yourself instead tells me you’d only do it for self-gratification. So, yea, you don’t know me anyway. Please don’t use me to generate traffic to your site if you ever hear of my untimely passing.

  • Oh my god, I did not know about this.  There’s a wikipedia page on her and I read the entire thing.  This is so horrifying and I am so sad for this girl who was subjected to so much agony and pain before her life was stolen from her by a worthless vermin.  I think all of you who left sarcastic and rude comments on her page and on here are sick and desensitized.  How could you possibly find humor in the most evil, depraved acts of subhumankind?  Are you so psychopathic you cannot even comprehend the atrocity?  Shame on you.

WHY IS THE VERMIN STILL ALIVE?WHY?  There can never be justice so long as she is gone, but if the worthless suffers there will at least be compensation.  Where there is mercy for evil there cannot be humanity.

I hope the vermin is getting raped by many a large black man on an hourly basis and persists in constant, unyielding pain.

  • my classmate’s mother-in-law makes $66/hour on the internet. She has been unemployed for seven months but last month her paycheck was $19716 just working on the internet for a few hours. Here’s the site to read more http://www.wow83.com

  • …Sure, as all fame, of any sort is ephemeral, and to be honored by you in such a fashion would be an honor…. Thank you for your offer. Peace

  • 2 girls that were killed in a car accident my sophomore year still have their xanga here. :/

  • @Lithium98 - RAFFY BUY ME PREMIUM, DON’T SPEND YOUR CREDITS ON PEOPLE WHO ARE NICE TO YOU.

  • @ShimmerBodyCream - You haven’t harassed me in the past couple days. You’re slipping up!

  • You probably will, but I hope you won’t make up that I died, like you did for Ricky, you had me sad that day

  • Wow, that’s crazy… I missed this one, how long ago was it when she was killed or died?

  • @ctaretz - never mind, I got the answer, it was in 2007… You know I almost rec’d her pulses, but, I figured that would be inappropriate, and people in general would probably appreciate it if I let her rest in peace. She was a pretty young lady, it sucks that the world can be so cruel sometimes. My heart goes out to her family… And I wouldn’t care if you wrote about me, you wanna know why? Because I’d be dead.

  • I died once. I didn’t get a post.

  • Just one post?  You could publish a book of one-liners about me if you wanted to.  ;)

  • yeah, that would be cool.

  • I saw an episode of Disappeared with her in it, it made me so sad. I wouldnt mind being mentioned as long as its respectful

  • Don’t post about me when I die. I would just like to quietly slip away like Jack Dawson did when he dropped like a rock in the icy Atlantic that fateful night the Titanic sunk.

  • i doubt you’d ever know.

  • Hell no. XD

Sorry, but let everyone think I wandered off and got lost in a forum or something.

  • If I die, someone post pi in my honor. As many digits as you feel like copying and pasting. I think that would be fitting.

  • Oh sure, it wouldn’t matter much to me anyhow

  • I hope Kelsey’s law will get passed in more states and pass on the federal level. This tragedy is horrible to read :(

  • I agree with her Mother.

And I’d be dead, so I don’t think I’d care…and nobody in my real life (aside from the two Xangans that I’ve actually met) know about this blog, so they wouldn’t care either? This is scary though.  Like.  People die every day for various reasons, but she was one of ours.  It was years ago, but still.
    @Lithium98 - I’ll take ‘em!
@shezadey - Probably because of how she died.

  • Well, I’d be dead so… But if my last post includes a spelling mistake on a simple word? Please, by all means, get with my BFF. She knows my password and can correct that shit.

  • @EmilyandAtticus - Funny, somehow I missed that link in my Xanga Subscription Email — I wonder if Dan added it afterwards.   In any case, thanks for pointing it out, I honestly did miss that tidbit of info.

  • I wouldn’t mind, as long as it wasn’t disrespectful. That poor girl.

  • I don’t think you’d know.  Besides, there’s nothing to link to. :)

  • seriously if i were to die i dont think anyone would notice

  • Ok, Dan, you have to realize this is a dumb question.  Dead people can’t use computers.  DUH!!!  LOL

  • Hell yea, if I can’t be famous in life, might as well try in death.

  • When I die, especially if I die in obscurity, I have instructions written in my paper journal that contains the account names and passwords of my xanga and my twitter, so that all of my online writing becomes a mysterious treasure hunt for some literary buff to delve through. Between my xanga, my twitter, volumes of old journals, poetry books, fiction, art, inspiration notebooks, letters, postcards, and volumes of old chat logs, I’d be leaving behind a whole secret world that went unnoticed by the general population. About seven years ago, I had a health scare, and during that time I was in such pain and so scared that I started leaving philosophical epithets written in ink on my left hand, just in case I died in my sleep. Of course I didn’t die, but the thought of my own immortality drove me to over-romanticize my eventual death, and start creating my eventual artistic immortality.
