We Will Save Xanga
The goal is clear. $60,000
Xanga must raise $60,000 by July 15th. So lets do it.$60,000. That sounds like a big number doesn’t it?Xanga has already raised $15,690. They did that with 73 donations. The average donation is $214.00. Xanga has said a $240 donation will allow for a blogger to gain a year subscription plus four other year subscriptions. We have to raise $44,310 by July 15th or this is over. That will only take 184 people to donate $240 each.I am asking you to donate $240.00. Now some of you can donate $48.00. But some of you can donate $1000 or even $5000 or $10,000.Go here and lets save xanga: LinkStop looking for other places to blog. Stop archiving. Lets not run from the fight. Lets fight the fight.Who is with me?

I am with you all the way!!
Me too! Already donated and may some more!
I’m with you! And I plan on pledging next week.
You know it!
I think there’s a plan being set up to donate in smaller increments. I’ll donate what I can, if that happens.Until then, I’ll be around.
<- broke graduate student on a tight budget
I am gonna donate after my next paycheck!
*Cue inspirational power ballad*I really can’t right now. I wish we could but we literally have no play money right now. It’s all caught up in mortgage & bills. I do hope the best for xanga but regardless of the outcome, the current dilemma has brought something to light in me that I don’t think I should keep blogging anyway. Best of luck and I hope Xanga can be saved.
Remember that BIGGEST GIFT you ever received? How many thousands was it, again? And you didn’t need it, you said……Ehhem. I’m just sayin’.
Looking hopeful.
Nah. I think I’m okay letting Xanga go gently into that good night, which realistically it should have done three years ago.
I can donate $48 once I start my job and get paid LOL.
I’m not willing to pay to use xanga, though. I hope xanga is saved and the money is raised, but one of the great things about it is that it’s free.
I donated, I hope we can do it!
i don’t think 60k is going to magically save xanga.
I donated. But I’ve also got a back up plan just in case.
@bloggicus_maximus - Same here. The Xanga that we know and love is going to end in July anyway. Even if it does raise the money it needs, it’ll just literally become WordPress with the Xanga name.
I don’t use Xanga anymore, but I would gladly donate some money (less than $48) to help them stay afloat. I like them.
I am going to pledge the $48 so if it relaunches I’ll have my first year paid.
The problem I see with their fundraising and new business model is that it looks like a short term solution to a long term problem. If they can’t remedy the long term problem (declining users/revenue), it’s just delaying the inevitable.
I am with you.
There are many precious photos uploaded to Xanga and they are worth more than $60,000.
I can’t. I don’t have that kind of money.
@dinhtrinh - they are allowing every one free archiving dls
I wonder if anyone knows whether the fundraising is a one time deal, or come next June will they roll out a celebrity and have another fundraiser for $60,000.
IRONY abounds since YOU being the ULTIMATE XangaNAZI NOW wants to SAVE Xanga from YOUR PC-bullshiite?? i’ll BUY Xanga on the penny market IPO..IF they get rid of YOU!
ooooh, someone knows his sales tactics… the triplicate of choice? Tom Hopkins or Zig Ziegler?
Dan, the average donation is $81.40What kind of math are you using?
Already pledged.
I’m poor. Go Danga!
I love Xanga and don’t want to see it go mainly because this blogging community is so close to each other and not like any other blogging site. I love the people and want to stay in touch with them. I hope we’ll all laugh at this in the future and say “remember when Xanga said they were going to shut down”. I love blogging here and the footprints make it extra special. I need Xanga in my life!
I am archiving everything just in case!
I’m!!!….
i cant donate because i dont think its worth. i dont think xanga will be 1/10 of what it is right now. there will be VERY few (those that paid) blogging…and most will disappear. this is very saddening….
I am not archiving. I am buying a membership. We all need to stop being little pussies.
I have been blogging with Xanga for seven years now. Will likely donate some money when i get my next pay check. Will our donations keep the site a float?
@Super_Rob_of_the_Sky - Doesn’t the xanga you know and love consist of the members here, more than the site itself?
im totally with u!!!!!! I ALREADY PLEDGED! LET’S GO XANGANS! LET’S BE THE SURVIVOR OF THE BLOGGING ERA!
@Hinase - Not meaning to be rude, but why bother posting then? Why not just wander off? Dan asked who is with him.
@ShimmerBodyCream - Yeah! Or big ones! Whatever!
I’m with you
I would but I want a Wii U with that kind of money. I do hope it survives though. Great memories on here.
I’m moving because they want to make this a paid site. I am not paying to blog.
I will start to post again on here if Xanga is savedso yea, I’m with ya, Dan!
@LeeKymKween - Maybe they can use some of it to hire people who actually know what the hell they’re doing.
let’s do this! >:D
@EminemsRevenge - You ARE aware he’s being sarcastic, right?
Jesus Tap Dancing Christ. $48???? NO. Absolutely not. I started my Xanga YEARS ago on a totally different angle than what it has evolved in to. I keep in touch with my “friends” here via Facebook (because we all had that conversation). I’m sad I’ll be losing the documentation of my past 8+ years, but I’d rather take my $48 and donate it to a women’s shelter or a community program combating violence.
I will help but I’d like to have unlimited uploads. My lifetime membership says I have uploaded 40% of my lifetime. Humm…..how can that be?
Wait I didn’t even know that this was happening. Why is xanga going down? And how will money help? Watch, this money is to pay off their debts, ten they’re going to shut it down a month later anyway. There are plenty other places to blog. Personally, il Ike tumblr, there are massive amounts of people on tumblr. But just so u know, there’s gonna be a time where xanga ends. Maybe u can save it now but it’s just gonna come back again. It might be time to let go.
I literally only have .99 cents in my bank account……
Good show
I’ll pay to play.
The Xanga team needs to put way more effort into affiliate and ad revenue if they survive this, with a social network it gives you all sorts of marketing power, i’m sure with a dedicated marketing program they could earn a good income to keep things running.
I’m totally with you
I have a “Lifetime” membership already. If Xanga reorganizes, does that go away?Even if Xanga meets this fundraiser goal, do you really believe that will keep things going for long?Maybe if someone gifts Xanga a million bucks. Then maybe.
I’m in.
@SoullFire - the fundraising is to keep the doors open and xanga running. The pay to blog model is more long term. With a new platform and more community involvement in programming and site management – it sets the stage for longevity.
@ZepBlueEyedGirl - You don’t have to lose it. You can save the archive of all your posts, pics, etc. Really glad they have that option since I wouldn’t want to lose mine.
I’d love to stay, but I don’t have $240 avail to just throw at a blog site.
@destinationmoderation - How do you do this? Save your archive I mean?
continue the fight
Dude, pull some heartstrings! There’s no real impassioned plea here. Come on now. This will be good for the young people, give them something to fight for!
For the love of God, people”It just won’t be the same anymore.”How the hell do you know? You haven’t even given it a freaking try yetGah, people are so frustrating.Yeah it could be terrible. But it might also be great! Give it a chance!!How about, oh I don’t know, TRYING SOMETHING, before you write it off as terrible? Huh! There’s an idea!
@Shadowrunner81 - This is a one time deal. The monthly pay plan will be long term.
@olwd - http://www.xanga.com/private/archives.aspx It’ll take a few to several hours to archive it seems, but once it’s done it’ll have separate download links for weblogs, pictures, pulses, and videos. All you have to do is download at that point.
@notforprophet - I’m lifetime as well. Here’s their answer - ”At various times over the past decade, we’ve sold Lifetime Premium memberships for $100. Because we normally charge $25 for a year-long Xanga Premium membership, this means that after 4 years of Xanga Premium service, your Xanga Premium has been free. As mentioned above, the current Xanga Premium program is being shelved. But we will be offering credits in the new system for all Lifetime Premium members, at the rate of $25/year. If it’s been a year since you bought a Lifetime Premium membership, we will give you a credit of $75. If it’s been two years, you’ll receive a credit of $50; three years = a credit of $25. If it’s been more than four years, you won’t receive a monetary credit but we will find another way to offer you something special as a thank you.If the fundraiser is successful, then all Lifetime Premium credits can be used towards Xanga blogging memberships.”
@SaintBlue1131 - affiliate and ad revenue ISN’T working. That’s what they have been doing for several years. Sites that are ad based and provide free services have to limit the level of service they provide, and charge extra for what they are providing – in order to stay in business.
@The_poet86 - yes, the donations will keep the site afloat.
I’m broke. Their minimum donation is a week’s worth of gas to get me to and from Harrisburg. I just can’t justify that expense right now. If they allowed just a chip-in of a few dollars, I could do that, but their minimum is way too high.
@destinationmoderation - This is great info, it seems relatively self-explanatory too. I wonder if anybody would be willing to do a post about this so that more Xangans would know how to do it. I think I asked QuantumStorm but he hasn’t replied yet. I’m sure he’s busy and all with his schooling and uhm, spaceships. LOL If I’m able to do this without a hitch then maybe I will do it. Thanks for the info though, you’ve been really helpful. I hear Xanga could use some helpful customer support people. =)
If I Had money I would totally do it. but I don’t… I’m sorry xanga.
My income is zero, for the moment! For real. BUT it’s mu birthday in a few weeks, and I always get money as present, so I could spend those!:) I really really hope we can have beloved xanga with us for much longer!
@edlives - I liken it to buying an appliance and then after four years the retailer comes to my house and says, ” If you want to keep using your refrigerator, you have to pay us again, but good news, you get to take all the food out first before we take the fridge back.”. Sure, that’d go over big.
Sounds Wonderful!!!!
@Aloysius_son - yeah, I don’t think you really get what we talkin’ here.
I am. I donated.
@edlives - Oh, I get it just fine. We paid for the product. Now we are expected to pay for the product again. Seems pretty obvious to me. Throwing some magnets on the door and changing the light bulb doesn’t make it a new refrigerator.
@Aloysius_son - uhm, yeah, you still don’t get it. We’re getting a new refridgerator, along with the rest of the kitchen.
@edlives - Except I don’t want a new fridge or kitchen. I bought and paid for the one I have and it was for life. No where in that deal was it even implied that they were going to come and take the fridge away leaving me no choice but to buy a new one. Why we are willing to accept this scam with the Xanga product is beyond me. Maybe you are one of the fortunate members of society who can upgrade their cell phone, computer and kitchen ever few years. Even if I could I wouldn’t. I was raised to preserve and care for what I have. So yeah, I don’t get it and probably never will.
@thetheologianscafe – I wouldn’t mind at all donating to help Xanga upgrade and provide for those who can’t afford to pay, but I will not pay again for the services I already paid for.
broke as a joke. no job, living off my grandmother… I wish I could donate.
@destinationmoderation - same here and i wont give its is a free blog site the rest of the site you got to pay for:)
If I had a job, I’d donate, but right now I need the money for school and other expenses. I might be able to donate a smaller amount.
I support Xanga by paying for PREMIUM, and will continue to do so as long as they are around and it is possible. I hope others decide Xanga is important enough to support it, also, for those who can afford to pay for membership. I also hope they are somehow able to find other sources of revenue by promoting Xanga, and are perhaps able to continue to offer basic membership for free. I have never though Xanga markets itself widely or effectively enough. Watching to see what happens; I hope Xanga makes it through.
I agree with you! We can do it!
Well said.
With half of the bitches on here in this community? I’d rather have this place die.
meh… anyone i care about keeping in touch with (you and Nat, for example) are already my friends on facebook i believe. $48 is a week of groceries for me. i can’t justify it right now.
@Donkey_Guy_10 - Because I can. :3 Also I doubt Dan cares anyhow, so it no big deal honestly. He’ll have more people support him so that will drown out my voice and aren’t I allowed to have to dissenting point of view even on a most positive post? Maybe because I’m dissatisfied with how Xanga is run and not to mention I agreed to a comment.
Donated, as a small share of the money. Just hope this website can contain our memory, not only for the past, but also in the future.
@edlives - “The pay to blog model is more long term.”This is what I think is a big mistake, as this will certainly cut down traffic with far fewer users blogging than now. Having some version of a basic “free” blog would increase the optimism of many. Why doesn’t the “Xanga Team” realize that blogs = content, and content attracts new users. Bloggers are indirect advertisers for the site. A paywall will end spur of the moment blogging by many would be new users.
I dun want xanga to shut down >
hk.xanga.com – Xanga’s Hong Kong site outlet — carries over 25% of its worldwide traffic.Yet there is no appeal for funds or even mention in HK Top Blogs about this dire conditon (translated version of hk.xanga.com ).How hard are they really trying to save things over there? Is Xanga perhaps threatening to close the English version of its site on July 15th but intending to maintain hk.xanga.com status quo?
I would love to be able to help… but I can’t.
@Aloysius_son - This is pretty much the perfect analogy.
@SoullFire - Because they’re goddamn incompetent, that’s why.
@edlives - A very poorly designed kitchen full of roaches and black mold. Just let the site die the death it should have five years ago.
Well if they fold there goes 1000s and 1000s of pix I’ve accumulated over the years?? Jesus Christ !! how the hell can I save them or even recreate that – Jesus this pisses me off Wtf !! i’VE BEeN PAYING $25 A YEAR FOR THIS?
@SoullFire - you are correct that content helps traffic. But with all the sploggers creating free accounts, the quality of content shown on the site at large degrades Xanga exponentially. A monthly fee reduces sploggers in a great way – making our content more search engine friendly. Also, the current platform doesn’t have the extra tools to add META tags and descriptions to blog posts – making them more SEO friendly – wordpress does.
Done!
@notforprophet - as a hongkonger i can reply u that many hk people know about the shutting diwn of xg already. i think the editors will post about that later. just need time
hi, I am a user from Hong Kong. I am also urging users in Hong Kong to donate, even they think this platform is no longer popular. It’s a place of memories and it’s worthy to save it.http://www.kurskhk.net/773611623/%e7%b1%8c%e9%8c%a2%e7%b5%a6xanga%e9%87%8d%e6%96%b0%e4%b8%8a%e8%b7%af/
I’m with you!
@notforprophet - i’m Editor@hong kong site. we try to make more donate to xanga. and try to build the other blog like xanga with wordpress / google. i love xanga and i will not let her go. trust our force. by 豬仔 – Editor Black @ Xanga
