E-Cards
We are getting to the time of the year when we can reflect on the birth of Jesus, spend time with family, and spam our friends with e-cards. I was messaging back and forth with flodge01. He brought to my attention the issue of e-cards.
I guess e-cards have never made me feel special. They just have all the feel of a bulk message.
Christmas e-cards, annoying spam or appreciated gift?
Comments (140)
Gift!!!
ANNOYING SPAM!
Spread the Christmas cheer any way you can!!
Gift, usually. I like them.
They are OK if you also get a real card too.
I don’t really like them. I prefer the real ones.
spam.
Hey at least they’re thinking about you. It’s better than nothing, huh?
then again, i think christmas is junk.
Oh, really? Do 4,000 comments per day make you feel special?
SPAM, oh they took sooooo much effort………..F U, keep your spam and send me a canned ham!
it depends if they’re awesome or not!! if they have the automatic “happy holidays” thing then it’s lame… but sometimes they can be special =)
I feel more special with snail mail
SPAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMm
completely obnoxious
but adorable when they’re from the right person.
one time i got an awesome one with grover singing on it. it was so cool.
It only takes a few minutes to send an E-Card if not seconds. They might spend a little time searching for a E-Card, but in the end =/
I’m not a big fan. Get me a real card. Being important enough to get real mail makes me happy.
appreciated
someone was thinking of you, period. Sure they could’ve done more and sent a real card (*cough* or money) but how often are we guilty of taking shortcuts too?
Virus. Don’t open E-cards, they are likely just a way to sneak a virus onto your computer.
No better way to celebrate the birth of your savior than to send annoying messages equipped with equally annoying christmas jingle MIDIs to all of your loved ones!!
I appreciate the thought, but not as much as if someone had sent me an actual card.
my family and freinds expect a card from me…with a note to them in it…it is more personal that way…e cards are nice I suppose…but I appriate a snail mail card more, it means they took the time for me…Smile
I don’t get many ecards, so I like the ones I get.
Love ECards, especially for Birthdays, or Christmas…..if I really like what I get then I print it out…..
FIRST PAGE!
better than nuttin..
annoying
Man, that was close.
Anyway, I have to say spam, unless it’s REALLY funny, like some of those Hallmark ones with the pink and green guys XD
You know I was just kidding, right?
i’ve never gotten one, i feel so left out… of cource i didn’t have my email last christmas time, i still should have gotten one. So because i have never had the thrill of opening my email and seeing the wonderfly exciting Chritmas E card all for me… i would have to go with appreciated gift.
Woo Hoo, I’m mentioned!
I like recieving both e-cards and regular cards. Although I prefer the regular cards
GIFT!!!
ANNOYING SPAM! they’re as bad as those damn forwards that say “email this to 35 people in the next 2 minutes or you’ll never have a love life again!”
depends on whether there’s a personalized note. i know some people who just send one to a bunch of people, and the message is very generalized. if they say my name in the message, then it holds more value
Christmas E-cards just equal laziness. :p All my Christmas cards are done, just waiting for the second week in December so I can send them out, lol. I don’t mind getting B-day ecards though.
Annoying spam.
better then nothing. Better if they have a note or something written and not just inpersonal.
annoying! i hate them. i never read random crap that people forward that includes crappy e-cards.
ANNOYING. depending on who they’re from, i guess
depands on who it’s from
I like em…
kind of annoying, but nice……… escpecially if they are funny or heart felt…..
Depends… my grandparnets were so excited about e-cards, mostly becuase they just figured out how to use a computer. So they send me on then call me and tell me to check my mail. So coming from them, a gift. Now if my boss does it, spam.
I like e-cards, but I never ever send them out in bulk. If I use them, I always personalize them to the person who is going to recieve it. General e-cards drive me crazy, because I feel like the person didn’t put idividual feeling into it.
They’re nice. Someone’s thinking of you. And saving on postage at the same time. But yeah, they’re thinking of you. I don’t get them very often, so I don’t mind.
It depends.. If all people put are “MERRY CHRISTMAS-Love, The Williams”, or something.. It’s not special. If they write a nice message, it’s ok. I prefer however, regular cards the majority of the time.. There is something special about a REAL Christmas card.
It depends who they are from, and what they actually type as the message.
I’ve never received an e-card. But they sound like spam to me. . .
I don’t mind if someone sends me an ecard but I think real cards are much more personal and thoughful.
It depends
mmmmm… e-cards make me feel so special because the person spent so much time driving to Hallmark, choosing the card that is best for me, payed $5 because the creator put a lot of time and thought into it
oh wait… you don’t buy them, you don’t drive, there isn’t much thought. what a bunch of crap! i’m gonna kill myself now
hey at least people care to give you an ecard dan
SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM
Xx-Nicole-xX
I’ve used it for b-days and other short hellos to people whose addresses I do not have. Christmas however should be heartfelt: take the time to drive to the store, find the right card, write a good message, purchase stamps, and mail the letter; shows care.
gifts!! Because think about it….after all a while, all those holiday and birthday cards add up….and I feel bad just throwing them away….at least with the ecards they’re sweey, thoughtful, and can be deleted
Hmm. closer to annoying spam. Which is interesting, considering getting real cards from people in the mail feels quite nice.
Truce?
sweey? lol, I meant sweet….wow, I can’t type today
presents!
…
JK
spam
Actually, I think they’re good…as long as you don’t get a million per day, cause that would be freaking annoying…hahaha…
Ash
Have a look at Jackie Lawson’s site for quality and interesting e-cards. A small annual investment delivers much joy to the recipients of these gems. But it’s free to peruse.
http://www.jacquielawson.com/
I’ve recieved about 5 e-cards in my day, only one meant anything to me, because she wrote me a very long, sweet message. I never did tell her how much I appreciated it.
kinda in between. they’re nice, but they can be annoying.
appreciated gift
tacky.
I appreciate any effort to send me kind thoughts…..gift.
Unless they’re somehow filled with a real letter, I think they’re just lame and useless.
gifts.
not even spam, just plain corny
Fairly meaningless
gift
I still send out snail mail cards because I think it is fun to get real mail at least once a year! I don’t mind the e-cards if the person takes the time to write a message with it.
I was reading your opening sentence. The way it is worded leaves me wondering if you think we should only think about the birth of Christ at christmas?
i love your voice comments. you sound way different than i would imagine. beths voice comment is my favorite haha.
Gift!
appreciated gift, duh!!
The biggest problem with them is when people bulk mail them to many recepients at once. I don’t get the warm feeling of being thought of as someone special when that happens.
I don’t send them, but I receive them from friends and I appreciate my friends thinking of me.
What I really HATE HATE HATE are those emails sent to me that say you must send it on in so many seconds to upteen friends in your address book to get your wish, or get your prayer answered, or have good luck, yada yada yada. I can’t delete those fast enough. Hmmmmm, maybe that is why I have such rotten luck? Ya think? ROFLMAO
Depends on who sends them.
Hi, my name is jackie and im 17 living w/ my parents here and my 10 yr old sister I have an older brother about 19 who lives in college. I have one bit of a problem though and I was wondering if you could help me out a little. My mom has a tumor resting on the back of her eye, it’s not cancerous b/c it’s like 95% benine but she still has to get brain surgery because it’s also attached to some of her nerves in her brain. She’ll be out of work for a little while and I was crying during school yesterday so I was wondering if there was something you could do to help? I’ll be posting some more about this on my xanga site just to get this out of my system if you wanna know more so that maybe you could please help me and my family out w/ this problem
I like email cards. Yes, they are less time consuming, but unless a card is hand made I toss it in the trash anyway. At least this way I am not wasting paper!
The e cards I receive from my family in England on my birthday and Christmas every year are extremely special to me. It’s the only sort of communication that ever happens over the pond.
I agree. E-cards feel like just one more e-mail. Some are cute, but most take a long time to download (yes, I’m one of the few individuals on earth who can’t get anything but dial-up), and I can’t keep them.
I love hand-signed real cards (not the ones printed on a computer either). : )
lamez0rs
Annoying spam, mos’ def.
spam
Neither. I have cut my snail mail Christmas card list in half over the past few years – but because of attrition (the elderly relatives in my family are dropping in record numbers…) and my desire to cut off contact with people who don’t give us the time of day anymore. NOT because of e-cards.
depends from whom..it’s kinda cheap, tho…send me a real card if you care
amanda
I send both. I prefer the real thing, but sometimes an e-card sent to a friend/family member/loved one over seas is a nice pick me up.
None of the above.
Anything is good.
if they’re personal, its nice. if they’re bulk, its annoying. but nothing is better than a real card.
It’s the thought that counts.
If they’re good ones, gift.
I like the e-cards. The person had to take time to pick one out didn’t they?
Gift! I love getting them, especially from the family members I only get to see once or twice a year.
annoying spam cause most times you have to head to another site to see your message. if it wasn’t that way it’d be ok. plus most of my email is spam i usually just delete.
Depends on who sends them.
Annoying and somehow missing the heart of a “real” Christmas card.
How about, a phone call.
annoying. it’s like you’re too cheap to go buy a real card.
annoying. it’s like you’re too cheap to go buy a real card.
I think it really depends on the message with the e-card. And a lot of them are really cute, too.
I caught you dan. This is all a plot for you to get us to give you e-cards for Christmas!
Ecards
Poetry by the bards
But not on a piece of paper, on a computer screen
Glaring at you. Staring at you.
Do you read with greed?
wasn’t jesus born in the summer?
i told all my friends to stop sending me emails unless its important. so, to me, everything is spam unless its asking a question or a real email.
real emails make me feel special =)
depends on how close you are to the person. online relation- sure e-cards are fine.
personal relation– kind of cheesy.
I prefer the real deal, but there are some people who probably wouldn’t send a christmas card to you normally, so an E-card would be appreciated. If my grandma sent me one… I’d feel a little slighted.
some e-cards are cool. others are dumb. the cool ones are okay.
pain in the ass depending on who they are from. that’s what we have myspace for – tags, blinkies, and greetings galore!
I take it as a compliment, someone thought enough of me to do something. Sometimes those email cards take alot of time.
annoying..
and you still have to approve me on yahoo…
1. It depends on who the card is from.
2. Most of your voicemails are from women…interesting…
I might begin a study on this…
Depends on the card.
Christmas… more spam, usually. What I love is when someone who’s not my best friend sends me somthing sweet on my birthday. Like they actually remembered when I didn’t expect them to, and they cared enough to send a card. Or when it’s not my birthday; thats nice, like when someone sends you somthing sweet to cheer you up, and for no reason.
I’m a HUGE fan of actual cards that come in the mail. That doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate e-cards– it always feels good to be thought of!
To me, a card is not a gift, and a virtual card is even less gift-like. But I still appreciate getting them.
i kinda like to get them. they can be personalized and especially with the busy schedules everyone has, especially during the christmas season, it is a quick and and easy way to get a christmas card out. of course i prefer to recieve (and send) real cards, but when i cant get one out in time ill just send a quick ecard and get a real card out later.
Annoying Spam D:!
Annoying spam.
I prefer a “Happy Birthday, Jesus!”. I don’t like the hassle of Christmas shopping, gifts…I just love it for what it represents.
Spam. I have seen a few really nice ones and they were appreciated, but most of the time I think yuck. If you really don’t have the money to send a real card, just send me a personal email.
Appreciated thought, becuase it usually comes from someone you know.
Spam comes from someone you have no idea about.
Annoying spam, lol.
-KrIsTiN-
I like snail mailed cards as well as email cards
If that is the only Christmas card, I’ll get from them, I’d really rather they not bother. But if it is in addition to other Christmasy things…they are okay in my book.
Spam!
Spam, unless they are from someone I like.
E-cards are fun but a real card is special. I still like real cards.
the thought is semi-appreciated….but lets be honest, most e-cards are pretty outright annoying. sure the person took the time, which is the part i appreciate….but yea….blah.
I usually don’t get Christmas e-cards. Out of the ones I get, though, I can tell which ones are bulk and which ones were sent only to me. Overall, I think they are an appreciated gift.
Spam. Send me a real damn Christmas card, you cheap bastard.
I don’t like them I usually immediately erase them.
Depends on who it’s from really.
Have never received one (that I can remember)
Annoying.
a cheap way to save on stamps and cards, unless the text enclosed isn’t too generic.
Don’t send your seriously ill friends e-greetings. They are too exhausted to get up and read them.
useless trash.
It’s only an appreciated gift if someone actually took the time to write a personal message instead of leaving the e-card’s message. But in a way it’s also spam because e-cards expire, I think.
annoying spam.
Very annoying spam.
-New Kid
they’re alright
not as personal as actual cards, but they can be pretty darn cute
