  • Blogging After Xanga

Just a quick note:  I will be on Roadlesstaken’s radio show tomorrow June 12th at 6:00 p.m. Central time.  7:00 p.m. Eastern time. Here is the Link:  Link

When xanga gave us a notice that they might shut down, I figured my blogging days were over.  While some people talked about where they would go, I thought this might just be a changing to a new chapter in my life.  It was a fun ride but maybe it was time to be over.  I will continue blogging on xanga if they make their goal.
But I think I am done as a blogger.
Will you continue to blog after xanga?

  • I already got set up on WordPress  I haven’t blogged on Xanga in over a year, but I’m obviously going through all my old posts and decided I needed to start blogging again…so now I’m there…

  • yes, on Xanga 2.0 silly -why would you leave now? You’re Mr.Popular!

  • Not sure; if it still exists I may give this Xanga 2.0 a try.  Otherwise like you said, it may just be a closing of this chapter in my life.

  • I may not have written anything of great depth or from a place of great need to spill recently (but life events sometimes dictate what we have energy for, and when I write, and I mean really write? It takes a lot out of me, which is kind of the point) but I don’t honestly know how I could give it up entirely. It would feel like denying a part of me.

  • I don’t know if I’ll keep blogging, or maybe channel that creative energy into writing something more substantial. I’ll have to think about that.

6:00 Central or Eastern for the radio show? For some reason I have 10:00 written down, so I’m glad you said something.

  • Hate to admit it, I’m finding features of the new free site I’m on that Xanga never had. I’m calling it the, “No Child Left Behind” policy as they not only list new people on the front page who are popular but writing and blogs that have not seen visitors or comments. [Link]

That is just pure genius and ensures literally – no-one gets left behind. Even Xanga didn’t do this and I’m meeting all kinds of amazing and wonderful people who are just signing up the same day. It’s gotta be great to get greeted like that and I know I was and I was surprised why – now I know why. Awesome stuff.

So – to answer your question, Dan, OH YES, I’m blogging and and enthusiastically writing a new post in there every day.

If Xanga somehow doesn’t resurface, I’m like the kid in that advertisement who was in the doctor’s office and was told by a nurse that it would be another hour before the doctor could see him, and he had a gameboy and was playing on it, and he said, “Cool !” [Link]

  • I won’t be home during your show but I think he archives them right? Can’t wait to hear you! Like you, I think the end of Xanga will be the end of blogging for me. It makes me sad but I think it’s time. <3

  • But then who would we have to write posts that only ask questions, and who would Save The Boobs?

    DAN YOU MUST STAY

  • No. I may just look around lol.

  • easy as it goes; take tomorrow when it gets here

  • No, it’s time to move on

  • @saintvi - 6pm Central, 7pm EST

@WrappedinWishes2 - Yup it will be available on demand after the broadcast is over

  • I am not done blogging at all.

  • @Roadlesstaken - Thanks! It’s so awesome you are doing this!

  • I hope to do a lot more writing in the future.  Not sure where I’ll do it.

  • already doing it…but xanga is fun…

  • Yes. There will always be idiots on the internet and someone will need to shut them up.

  • Blogging is a significant part of my life. I do not intend to stop if Xanga does go under.

  • Also, should you stop blogging, Dan, know that you will be missed.

  • I’m still undecided.

  • I’m done blogging no matter what happens on the 15th.

  • Meh. I dislike most alternatives for a variety of reasons so I’ll probably go back to my private ramblings.

  • Xanga is/was my vehicle for blogging, not my reason to blog.

  • i’ll continue to blog. i write because i am compelled to write, it is not hindered by a change in the medium.

  • I’m already blogging at WordPress along with a lot of other Xangans. It’s definitely not as good as Xanga but it’s nice that there are Xangans on there. I want to get a head start in learning how to use it and connecting with the other Xangans on there, in case Xanga does close and instead of waiting till the last minute to learn how to use it. I’ve learned quite a bit already. I’m really hoping Xanga survives and I’m willing to pay $4 a month for all the features Xanga has over other blogging sites.

  • I will continue to blog. I will blog on Xanga as long as Xanga is available. I love having all my blog material in one spot. However I have started up an alternative blog space should Xanga decide to leave us.

  • @TheGuyYouD0ntKnow - Same. There’s nowhere else to really turn. The only other site I really liked was AOL Journals and that went like 7-8 years ago.

  • If Xanga does shut down,    I will go back to my Blogger account.

I may stick with Facebook and Twitter.      I have tried WordPress but still have not got my head round things.

    Tumblr not sure.

  • Not sure yet. I really hope Xanga stays. I’ve been here almost 10 years and it’s hard to think of it closing.

  • Oddly enough, I’m more enthused about blogging now than I have been in ages. I like my brand new WordPress site. The free version is plenty versatile for my present needs.

  • @dw817 -

Thanks for the link: I’m impressed by the site you mention!

  • Yes, I will continue to blog.

  • Not sure.  I still have a lot to say.  And a lot to share.  But I need a user-friendly place because my computer skills are minimal.  But there’s also the issue of:  is it worth all the time?  Are there better things to do with my time?  The answer is yes, of course, but then another question arises:  do I have the discipline not to blog?

    Like I said.

    Not sure.

  • Honestly? I’m not sure. I’ll definitely take a break. Summer is here anyway. But after that I don’t know. I am going to tumblr for my fitness stuff but who knows about blogging my emotions? It was tough to even think about losing Xanga. It’s so weird.sigh. I hope you change your mind!

  • Haha I’m kind of doing the same thing! I’ve been toying with the idea of making a Vlog on YouTube, and when this went down I started to think it was a sign. So here’s to moving forward, Dan! =]

  • I HAVE RECEIVED NO NOTICE FROM XANGA THEY MIGHT SHUT DOWN! APPARENTLY EVERYONE ELSE ON XANGA DID! I’M PISSED THAT XANGA WON’T ANSWER MY INQUIRIES! BUT I WILL CONTINUE TO BLOG, JUST AS I WILL REMAIN IN PARKE COUNTY INDIANA, UNTIL THE LORD JESUS CHRIST CHANGES HIS ORDERS FOR ME!

  • Yes, I will keep on blogging.

  • I cut way back on my blogging and turned into more of a discussion site a long while back. I am not sure if I will put in the time into a new site it takes to do that again. I really do not know

  • Maybe instead of frantically casting about for some way to replace this pseudo-community you people should take this stellar opportunity to go get a fucking life.

  • my roomate’s aunt makes $82 an hour on the internet. She has been without a job for nine months but last month her payment was $21024 just working on the internet for a few hours. Read more here http://www.rev24.com

  • Well, I’ve heard from a reliable source (my roomate’s aunt’s ex- husband’s step-daughter) who said that I could make $82 an hour blogging! How could I possibly miss an opportunity such as this??!!

  • @somewittyhandle - You are very welcome, Sir Porker ! Outside of security I always thought Xanga had the best blogger – and then I come across one that puts new posts and new people on the front page. I really like that – and it gives everyone a chance to be seen and recognized.

    @musterion99 - Fully
agree. I can afford $4 a month, that’s not too bad. I’m gonna be REALLY
looking at security tho if I do decide to start blogging there
mainstream – hope Xanga² comes through.

  • i have a wordpress so i’m not done.

  • Yes, blogging will go on. Maybe I can be more consistent about now.  I just hope Xanga stays.

  • @dw817 - Blogging where mainstream? WP? They have 2 options for protected posting.

  • Have been using WordPress regularly.

  • I’m pulling the chain on Xanga, but my doodies will go somewhere else.

  • I pretty much have stopped.Just don’t have the desire for it anymore.I don’t see the point in it anymore.

  • I like what @soullfire said. Its the vehicle for blogging not my reason to blog.

It doesn’t make leaving any easier. I found a home here but I have started transitioning to Live Journal..but if Xanga makes it…I’m coming right back here. Don’t worry I did donate! I’m not giving up yet!

  • I’m going to buy some sidewalk chalk, then start blogging EVERYWHERE!!

  • I’ve been here going on 13 years… and…  yeah.
Moving to WordPress feels like a fresh start.  It’s good.
And I love it there, already.  Even if Xanga ‘makes it’, I’ve left.
I’d use Xanga as the ‘archive’ and just go with it anew at WordPress.

Honestly, though… what’s to say they won’t raise $58K and oops… didn’t make their goal.  Do they get to keep the money?  They haven’t said a word since announcing the imminent demise, and their support has always been non-existent.  I don’t trust them, anymore.  Haven’t for a while.  And at WordPress?  There’s moderated commenting.  WOoT!

  • Of course I will, just not sure where yet.

  • Is there anyway we can get a copy of our blog from Xanga…that anyone knows about….if so let me know….thanks. I have been here for almost ten years and I would hate to lose it all. Thank you.

  • NO. I would not give up and your a good writer so if you quit you will be robbing the world of your talents and knowledge and that is not write. Some one sent an excellent for writers where you have a real chance of being published and making money…..I will post their username and the website on here later tomight…I have it in my e-mail.

  • @musterion99 - Well I’ll be mainstream over at Writer’s Cafe until Xanga² -

If Xanga² does get all the donations they are asking ($60,000) it and does open up (and I gotta feeling it won’t be until quite a bit later after July 15th) =AND= it looks super really good – like they really made it like Xanga, I’ll go there (Xanga²) and pay the $4/mo. to maintain my premium status.

Not to current WordPress – not the way it is right now, I still don’t like ‘em, Froggy – Nope !

  • I moved over to WP already.  If Xanga stays up I’ll probably shut down the WP and just stay here!

You should move too!  Please?  We’ll miss you too much!

  • @Tallman - Go to your archives and download them!

  • I am on wordpress. Will I use it? I have no clue

  • I probably will continue somewhere else….

  • idk; it was a great ride; maybe it’s time to do something else; i have looked at other sites but I have no enthusiasm for them; xanga is like family

  • Yes at WordPress but I hope to take things in a different direction. Xanga was all about meta-blogging and whining and people who take themselves much too seriously. My blog thus became about mocking the Xanga community which is certainly fun but not really what I had in mind when I started blogging.

  • my mental image of you has changed yet again… now that I’ve heard your voice.

  • Most of my blogs have been private lately, but I do plan on writing- I may move back to journaling. I know I will miss this community…

  • Depends if i can find a good place to post dirty stuff

  • XANGA ISN’T REALLY BLOGGING . It’s just a way of communicating. i communicated before Xanga, why not after?

  • ive already packed up shop and moved. im only still here to tell all my old xanga groupies (hahaha like i have groupies) that i have a new blog.

  • Yeah, I’m going the way of DMV and other castoffs on Tumblr.

  • Lately, I’ve been pointing out that we’re living in the age where blogs are going extinct. Of course, I was wrong about that. Blogs aren’t going anywhere, but rather changing into something… smaller. Evolution on the digital scale, really. Blogs are now 140 characters or less, if you’re good at it. Attention spans are shorter these days, so micro blogging is in.

I’ll be on the web with various sites to keep me busy, but there won’t be a place quite like the House of X. I’m not even sure if the relaunch will have the same magic as before. It depends… In a perfect world, the relaunch would be a renaissance, but…

I’m so egotistical, I don’t think it will work without me.

  • I’ve kind of been done with blogging for a few years now, but I’ve stayed on here for the community. It’s nice having an outlet occasionally and I enjoy reading blogs. Not sure what is next either, to be honest.

  • Dan, over the time that I have been on Xanga(and yes I have not written a whole lot on here) I have come to enjoy some of the people who have continued to plug away here.

From what I have seen of your work(and enjoyed), I do not think you will quit blogging(at least I hope you don’t). You have a lot to say and once bitten by the writing bug you are infected for life.
Yes, I can understand the feeling of “who cares” and the lethargy that I hear in some of your recent posts.
I, for one, hope that whether Xanga stays or goes, that you will continue to write.
    Myles

  • more likely not than likely. I get blogging spurts. which is why I always end up back here. but I will have to spurt some blog else if this goes down :(

  • Xanga introduced me like 6 years or so ago to blogging but I kind of have copied several of my blogs to another site and have several accounts on several other sites.  I have reasons for blogging and I’m going to continue.
