  • Halloween and Candy

I was reading a website that expressed some advice for Halloween.  Here is the link:  http://www.wikihow.com/Give-Healthy-Treats-for-Halloween

In the article, suggestions were given on “healthier alternatives” to candy.

    Some of the suggestions were

    # 1  Individual packages of fruit or applesause

    # 2  Little packets of organic raisins

    # 3  Granola bars

    # 4  Low-sugar, trans fat-free cookies

    # 5  Cheese sticks

    # 6  Small apples

I think any of these “treats” leaves the child feeling bitter.  It also angers the parents who usually gets a 10% cut of each child’s candy.

    Sugary Candy or Healthy treats?

  • Plastic Flamingo

The plastic flamingo may be gone forever.

The company that produced the original version of the plastic flamingo is going out of business on Nov 1.  Horsesrmylifeald sent me this link:  http://www.charter.net/news/read.php?ps=1014&id=13199573&_LT=HOME_LARSDCCI1_UNEWS

Would you want a pink flamingo in your front yard?

  • Dying

I am going to die on September 6, 2044.  It will be on a Tuesday.  How do I know?  I checked on the deathclock.  I found this link off of foxnews.com.  Here is the link:  http://www.deathclock.com/

Go to http://www.deathclock.com/.  Then put in your age and a few pieces of information.  I dare you.

When are you going to die?

  • The Bridge

About 1,300 people have jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge since it opened in 1937.

Now a movie is being released called “The Bridge.”  The producers of the movie taped the bridge for a complete year and caught about two dozen people jumping from the bridge to their death.

The movie is exploring different issues of suicide.  The producers have said that they were trying to answer such questions as “Why do people commit suicide?”   They interviewed family members of those who committed suicide.  They also show letters from those who committed suicide.

Critics have said that the film will cause more people to commit suicide.  Others are concerned of the suicide footage being played for voyeuristic purposes.

Do you think that showing people jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge will help in understanding why people commit suicide?

  • Halloween and Steve Irwin

Steve Irwin Halloween costumes are apparently one of the more popular costumes for this year.

Apparently people are buying out the costumes and buying stingrays.  The Living Planet Aquarium reported that they sold out of plastic stingrays because customers said they were trying to make Steve Irwin bloody costumes.

South Park received criticism for showing a bloody Steve Irwin with a stingray hanging out of him.

Do you think Steve Irwin would be laughing at all of this attention surrounding his death?

  • Prayer

We sometimes pray before eat.  We will sometimes pray asking God for help.

Do you think God hears your specific prayers?

  • Time Change

How are you going to spend the hour you gain tonight?

  • Heaven

Imagine that you died and were standing before God.  Imagine that God asked you, “Why should I let you into my heaven?”

    What would you tell God?

  • U.S. Condom Aid

The U.S. is the largest donor of condoms.

    World's Best Condoms

We want to help out so we give what we can.  Your tax dollars are being used to buying condoms.  In fact, the U.S. has donated “more than nine billion condoms over the past two decades.”  It is part of a global AIDS plan.  The U.S. donates over 400 million condoms a year.  Here is the link:  http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/29/world/29condoms.html?ei=5065&en=3044c12097b980ff&ex=1162699200&partner=MYWAY&pagewanted=print

Does it bother you even a little bit that your tax dollars buy over 400 million condoms to be sent to foreign countries?

  • Depression and Xanga

I had a doctor’s appointment the other day.  I sent out a message right before I left that asked “Do you ever have unexplained depression?”  I was surprised when I received over 900 responses within 24 hours.  Some of those messages were encouraging.  Others were depressing.  It was sad to read stories of people and how they were struggling to overcome their depression.

I started to feel better after my appointment and as I was reading the messages I got depressed again.

    It did get me thinking.

    Is Xanga a depressed community?
